Moss Envy is one of the only eco-focused boutiques in the Twin Cities and is a real gem for unique gifts. Totally unexpected in a strip mall! I wasn't sure at first, but I'm totally behind the rebranding now (until a year or two ago, it was Twin Cities Green in Uptown). It's got a more modern and cool vibe that appeals not only to people who want to do right by the Earth, but also plain old classy people with good taste. It broadened their reach without sacrificing their green standards and mission. I usually don't buy myself things here, but it is one of the best places in Minneapolis to pick up a gift. The store is teeming with organic, sustainable, local and recycled goods like reusable water bottles, bamboo serving ware, artisan jewelry, safe kids toys, MN Mittens (made in Winona by disabled adults with recycled sweaters) and even furniture. It's a little pricey sometimes, but you could definitely find an option for everyone on your gift list here. Plus, it's a family-owned store... and when it comes to shopkeepers, you really won't find much friendlier folks than Tina and Ryan (and Tina's mom too!). read more

Moss Envy is a really nice place. It's one of those stores where if you need a really unique item for a housewarming or for a host, it'll have it. I've been a few times and every time I'm in, I end up getting something a little quirky that is wholly green. While I have to pay a little extra for the sustainable/green situation, the uniqueness and quality always make up for it. I love their wooden kitchen products. Me going to Moss Envy is equivalent to bringing a child into a really sweet toy store...they want to look at/examine/squeal over everything! And while I don't have to beg my parents to buy me (most) things anymore, I have the adult problem of talking myself out of stuff I don't absolutely need. Who doesn't need another soy candle? Or glass water bottle...or bpa-free food container...or sulfate-free shampoo...or organic cotton mattress? Ok well that last one was a stretch. I couldn't afford one of their mattresses right now, that's for sure. Moss Envy is focused on sustainable, healthy, and recycled/recyclable products that people can easily incorporate into their day to day lives. With the whole "eco-movement" being in full-swing, there's a lot of greenwashing going on and Moss Envy carries products that actually live up to the "green" label instead of just slapping the word on packaging. Their new location is beautiful and the employees have been nothing but pleasant and helpful. One woman in particular was SO sweet and an absolute joy to speak to! She answered all of my questions about products and pointed stuff out without being pushy. She genuinely wanted to help. They also carry a number of locally made things. I'd also like to point out their website. It's super easy to navigate and they have a tab for "eco-labels" like "made in mn", "organic", "vegan/animal friendly", and many others. Wow - what a cool place! Across the the Whole Foods, this is a place I'm sure many people have seen, but never been in. Check it out sometime!! The staff is warm & welcoming & ready to answer any questions without pressuring the sale. They have a wide variety of eco-chic gift options, baby/kids gear & home goods, plus some furniture. I found this place to be fun to browse through & would have had no trouble dropping a couple hundred dollars on fun new stuff if I could have afforded it. Very cool store! read more

Cute shop! I walked in just to kill some time and was greeted by the friendliest shopkeeper I've ever encountered. After giving me a brief intro into how the store was set up (including where to find the sale items) she said, "I'm glad you're here." Aw, shucks. They stock an eclectic assortment of things: kitchen gadgets, yoga pants, cleaning products (for home and body), table settings, furniture, a backpack that charges your iPod, cell phone, etc. Seemed kind of pricey, but probably no more so than other boutique shops around town. Moss Envy is an awesome little place. They have...almost everything you could imagine with an environmentally-friendly twist. I was there (for work) for their Ladies' Night 2012, and it was a really nice time. The owners are really sweet and genuine and willing to help you look around and explain different things. They have some really beautiful jewelery and the woman who was working was able to tell me a little about the local place that makes the jewelery and the materials used etc. I will definitely be back for gifts. I'd also like to take more time to check out their natural make-ups, they have a lot to choose from and I haven't had a lot of time to really check everything out. Kudos to the staff of Moss Envy--they were by far my favorite part of the store. People passionate about organic and recycled merchandise--so great! Great shop! This summer I went in there and found a nice pillow made with local wool (!). Good prices, friendly service, unique items, attractive store (the newer location). What a journey with Moss Envy! We've wandered in and out for a couple of years, and, recently saw a floor model bed we liked and felt we could afford....we've had our mattress and box spring on the floor long enough to be embarrassing. They disassembled the bed for us and we brought it home...it didn't end well, and, we had the pieces in our living room by the end of the day and had to call in Moss Envy. They said they'd help by contacting the maker and having the "broken' component replaced. We waited a bit for this, and, I admittedly grew impatient about it as the pieces had become unintentional living room furniture. We contacted Ryan, the owner, and expressed our frustration and our concerns about the time and effort we'd spent on the project as well as the long term issue of owning a "fixed" bed. Ryan sprang into action. He began incredibly prompt and accommodating communications with us. He ordered an entirely new bed for us, much nicer than the original one, at a couple of dollars more than the original price. He picked up the old one, and, several weeks later when it arrived (they're made to order in Colorado, I think) he singlehandedly delivered the new one and put it together for us THE EVENING BEFORE THANKSGIVING. I slept on it for the first time last night, and, the difference between a slatted platform bed and a box spring (ours was old and crappy and didn't "come with" our current latex mattress) is immense and positive! There was a bit of "freshly oiled" odor to our bed but that was understandable given that it was made for us, and we put our air cleaner in the bedroom overnight. The smell was not horrid and came from some natural product, and, it went away overnight. The support and comfort is fantastic and the bed is so beautiful. Knowing it's handcrafted and sustainable makes me so happy. We'll get decades of pleasure from this furniture piece. Although things started out rough, Ryan took a bad situation and with kindness and total commitment to 100% satisfaction, brought it around to a big positive. We love our bed, we're grateful, and, we love Moss Envy. I have confidence that they care about their customers very much, and, you'll probably love what you acquire there. If you don't? Moss Envy is one of those stores that, when I visit, I find myself wondering why I don't go there more often. The owner guy is the only one I've seen working the counter and he's always nice, cheery, and has a big hello for everyone who walks in. The prices are reasonable and when I have bought stuff from Moss Envy, I've always felt good about my purchases. I picked up the deal from Yelp ($35 for $50 of merch, I believe) and felt like a kid in an environmentally sound candy store. I'm constantly amazed by the stuff I find here, last thing I bought was a nursing pillow that was Organic wool (like the boppy pillow, only non-toxic and organic) for significantly less than the price online. I have driven by Moss Envy many times but have never actually stopped in until I a) saw they offered a Yelp coupon ($5 for $10) and b) was in the process of looking for some local, unique gifts. The staff is phenomenal...they are welcoming, not overbearing, and gladly struck up a nice conversation with us. This small business is in a great location across from Whole Foods and offers eco-based products for a similar clientele (jewelry, odds and ends things for the home, incense, lotions, Minnesota gifts, things for children/a baby etc. etc.). This is a great place for finding unique gifts (both small and large) or for getting ideas for down the road. I will definitely be back! read more

What a great eco-friendly store. Not only are they eco-friendly but just plain friendly! As soon as I walked in the woman working (I think she is the mother in-law of the woman who owns Moss Envy if I heard her right?) greeted me and told me to be comfortable to touch anything and be sure to "play" my way through the store. Absolutely loved how nice and helpful she was. The store has a really wide variety of eco/sustainable/natural/fair trade products and have a really convenient labeling system to show you what the product is (like local, fair trade, recycled, etc.) There have furniture, dining sets, a lot of household things, a smaller selection of clothing (organic), beautiful sustainable jewelry, a baby/child section, and a big section with bedroom sets/mattresses/etc. So many things! The website is also very helpful to see their products. Obviously, a lot of the stuff is pricey (also probably explains the new location of the store) but it is definitely worth it for a lot of it. Oh they also have a little sale area in the bedroom area. I don't like the location (over by Whole Foods) but I think it is a store worth going out of the way to check out personally). I could easily spend hours here looking around and buying things, but my bank account would hate me. Moss Envy is unexpectantly awesome with a wide variety of reclaimed items for you or your friends. Prices range all over the board, but the goods are priced well for the quality and something can easily be found for any budget. Everything from little tabletop items to large furniture and beds; it's mostly local and recycled and definitely 100 percent unique. You'll find stuff here that might not be available elsewhere, and the stock changes all the time so it's easy to come back weekly and see what's new. The staff is surprisingly helpful and friendly with a welcoming and open personality. I felt comfortable looking around without the added pressure of a traditional sales staff. They can wrap stuff in paper and bubble wrap at the counter and they even offer products on their website so you can get your Moss Envy fix where ever you are. read more

Love. Didn't know what to make of this store when I saw a coupon, but the name intrigued me. Got there three months later on a cold, slushy day. What an oasis from the muck outside! This store is full of interesting, quality products begging to be bought and put in my house. I was on a mission to buy a gift (1/3 of the money spent went towards gift, the rest towards me - a successful trip!). The owner's mom is lovely and informative without applying any sales pressure. I have always liked popping into Moss Envy- both for their quality goods, friendly service and supporting a smaller shop in MSP. I remembered seeing Charlie's soap last time I was there and wanted to purchase some. I contacted the store before driving to it to see if they had it as the store is a bit of a hike from my house. Amazon had it cheaper but I wanted to support a shop. Upon getting there, I was told they didn't in fact have what they had told me just moments before they had. While the woman was apologetic, she did not offer anything for my time or trouble- baby in tow. If a customer asks what you have, you should check shelves- as she admitted to doing. And if a mistake is made, I'm wondering how they could have improved their customer service with more than just a sorry. Makes me less likely to drive out to them in the future. Wonderful treasure of a neighborhood store! My purpose of my visit was to check out Savvy Rests organic latex, toxic-chemical free mattresses! Allow a good amount of time if you are doing the same! The Savvy Rest mattresses are extremely comfortable and interchangeable for your firmness control throughout the years. Still working on bringing my husband in so he can try out his customizable side. I ended up with a few of the most restful pillows we have ever owned...the shredded latex pillow by Savvy Rest. Spendy but it has been the best support I've had...even up against pillows from the chiropractor. Bought two and was able to customize to cushion preference. Took a bit if the fill from each and made a third pillow. read more

Gave this place four stars because they had what I wanted(cloth diapers) just not a wide selection of the items. Over all staff was very polite and courteous. I loved that they are a green eco friendly store. Its possible that I would come back if I'm in Minnesota again. read more
