I recently attended a wedding where Mosaic provided the catering and service. I had heard such great things and LOVE Mosaic restaurant, so I was really looking forward to their food. And the food that I tried was delicious! Unfortunately the service was terrible. I hope the couple and family didn't notice or maybe they were treated differently than the average guests, but as a former wedding industry professional I was really shocked. These were the things that I noticed:
-Cocktail hour food was 2 hours late. As is traditional for Jewish weddings, the cocktail hour took place from 3:00-4:00 before the ceremony so guests can mingle and certain religious rites can be performed. There was an open bar but I didn't see any food, so I asked the bartender if something would be served. She told me food would arrive at 3:30. Something must have happened because 4pm came and went, cocktail hour ended, and the ceremony began without food arriving. A handful of servers finally arrived with trays after 5pm when the dinner was about to be served. Unfortunately I didn't get to try anything because they ran out when I made my way to that side of the room.
-Unprepared and downright rude staff. I have never seen so much huffing and eye rolling when serving food or making drinks. A guest at my table had severe food allergies that were passed along in advance, but none of the catering staff could tell her what was in the dishes or if anything was safe for her to eat. Instead she was given an attitude, made to feel like she was at fault for asking questions, and was told it wasn't their problem. Eventually a very nice man did come over and apologize and give her the information she needed, but almost all the safe items were gone from the buffet. She ate rice and bread as her meal.
-Not enough food for everyone even though twenty people were no-shows to the wedding due to weather and illness. My table was the last to be called to the buffet and several dishes were gone despite the entrees being portioned and served by the caterers.
-Inattentive and clumsy set up and service. Only some tables received water, others did not. I had to use the water fountain. Staff was supposed to be fully masked at all times and several weren't even when in close contact with guests. Servers took away full drinks and moved chairs and belongings in the dining area after guests had already found their spots at their designated tables. I set down my things to watch the first dances and my fresh drink was gone, my purse was moved, and I saw servers taking chairs away from my table and reorganizing the seating. One of the servers also somehow set fire to the buffet table, but thankfully that was quickly put out.
Maybe this was an off day or key staff members weren't there to keep things running smoothly, but overall it was really disappointing. I wouldn't confidently be able to book them for my own events. read more
