I was simply asking for their hours & if there was karaoke tonight & she huffed & puffed & said I'm not doing this with you & then started to respond to me with yes m'am, I guess to try to save it? I have no idea, literally just asked her what time they closed today & tomorrow & if they had karaoke & I said thank you & she hung up. I met up here for a friends birthday party where he had his own table reserved right in the middle of all of it which was really nice because we could always find each other given enough time. It was a really good time but I had not been in a place that allowed smoking inside in quite some time so it took me awhile to get used to it and my clothes wreaked when I got home. This is just something that you still have to deal with outside of city limits I suppose. Having quit smoking after 22 years I have to say that the smoke wasn't terrible as there was decent air flow but it was still noticeable. There were several live bands so there was a cover charge of $30 per person that night but luckily my buddy had an extra ticket so I didn't have to pay to get inside. Under normal circumstances there's no way I would have paid that much to get in but I'm not that much of a country fan to begin with so that makes sense. Overall everyone was fairly nice but there was definitely a ton of rhinestone-cowboys dressed in their finest for a Saturday night of dancing and drinking...this is TEXAS after all so whatever makes you happy. At one point the owner of Mo's Place (Mo himself I presume) came on stage to thank everyone for coming and gave a little story of how Mo's Place came to be the thriving waterhole that it is now. I'm guessing it was some sort of anniversary maybe because I can't imagine he does that every weekend. But he was genuinely thankful for everyone that was there and he seemed to be happy to talk to anyone and shake everyone's hand as he moved across the room which gave me the impression that he's a pretty good guy. If you're looking for a place where you can smoke indoors, grab an inexpensive beer, and dance your heart out to country music then look no further. If you're looking for a place that is clean, want a nice cocktail, or would like a place with decent parking then you should probably keep looking. Yuck. The patrons are rude and territorial- so is the staff. The bar backs are the nicest people there, as the waitresses and bartenders are the WORST. Pay cash, count your change, and don't give any credit card info- last time I did I got massive fraudulent action. Also- the local low life's seem to compete over who's bar and parking lot it is now. Last night was our first time at Mo's and overall it was okay. We weren't expecting an $8 cover but between the band and UFC fight, we understood. Cover band was actually really great and I'm not usually one for live music. The place was busy, lots of older folks on the dance floor. Everyone was having a great time. Drink prices weren't cheap but we're average with most place. The food was god awful. We waited about an hour for nachos. When they came out the plate had FOUR tortilla chips with a hunk of meat and cheese on each, salsa and sour cream on the side. Our waitress Christina was so sweet and removed it from our tab. Overall, I'd come back on a weekend- see the same cover band and eat at the Taco Bell across the street. read more

This place is awesome! After a week of the baby only listening to country music to fall asleep, the hubs and I decided we needed to experience a real honky-tonk bar. I was cautiously optimistic about Mo's.....the yelp reviews had me believing this place would suck. Wrong! Probably one of the most fun times I've had at a bar. Super cheap drinks, really good live music and fantastic people watching. I take off a star because they allow smoking in the bar....I know I know, it's a honky-tonk so the smoking shouldn't be surprising....it doesn't mean it's still not disgusting though. Anyways, generally I do not listen to country music, this joint is in Katy and they allow smoking but Mo's is still is still an awesome time. When I need to kick up my heels, rock out to some "Neon Moon" and drink some straight whiskey you can bet your bedazzled boots I'll be returning to Mo's. read more

As a non Texan, this is what I picture as a honky Tonk Texan bar. I loved it. Good country music, with a decent dance floor...could be bigger...where couples dance mainly two step. Has a decent band, and good music while on break. Drinks were cheap, and rowdy crowd were there to find a good time, not trouble. I would definitely return. Disclaimer...this is a bar, so put on your jeans, beat up boots, and hats y'all. This is not a New York nightclub, so please don't expect someone to take your mink at the door. Lively bar. Karaoke nightly during the first half of the week, bands during the second half. It is in the corner of a shopping center strip and at night the lot is open (valet maybe on a third on Fridays and Saturdays when I have gone). They have food (only tried nachos). Cold beer and drink specials. The bar is fairly large, though half is closed off when bands not playing. Pool tables and more drinks. This place outside Houston limits and currently smoking is allowed. I failed to ask if cigars were prohibited, but it does not seem like the kind of place that would prohibit. Not too shabby of a bar for Katy! Yes, you have to pay a cover ($6 on Friday night), but you're getting live music and the bands I've seen have all been pretty good! This past Friday, I didn't even realize it was a band until I finally turned around and looked at the stage! This bar is huge, it's got everything from live music, a dance floor, and pool tables. The crowd is a mix of everything...country folks (old and young), soccer moms, empty nesters, early 20s and everything in between. The drinks are cheap and we generally have excellent table service every time that I go, it's a winner whenever I'm stuck in suburbia :) read more

As far as country music venues, it was alright. I went here for the first time for a concert. Let me begin describing my experience by saying that parking is a nightmare. Everywhere around this place tows too, and there weren't even any other cash lots. We ended up valeting which I guess in the end was fine. We bought tickets at the door, which was a mistake. If you're going for a concert and want a place to sit at all, even just for a little bit, buy 'reserved' tickets. Next, drinks were decently priced, there was a fun mixed crowd and the first band sounded great. I really hate when you go to places like this and the sound systems stink when it comes to live music. To me, this places biggest downfall was the space to stand in front of the stage to watch the concert. I guess it's nice because it leaves the dancefloor open if you want to dance during the concert, but not everyone's into that. Luckily I was able to get there early and get a spot up front, but i'm short, and I wouldn't have been able to see what was going on on-stage otherwise. I might drive back out here for another concert, but I don't think that I would come just for the fun of it. Overall, decent place, nice staff, but nothing spectacular. read more

Wow, this is a tough one to rate. Its a country bar, and I do like me some country music. I don't, however, dance - line, square or any other shape. So as good as the bands may be, if you want to hear live music, Mo's is the place. If you want to SEE live country music, its a challenge. And it does get crowded - close to standing room only as it gets later. The service has been very decent, especially considering its a very crowded bar. If you tend to continually get bad service at a bar, I wonder if you're tipping. Puting a dollar in the jar and learning their name tends to work wonders. Will repeat, but expect a cover charge and limited parking. And if you go, just know that 99.9% of the people will be in their jeans, boots, and hats. Spurs optional. read more

We only come here if there is a good performer. The place is the worst lay out ever and they allow smoking inside. If it is crowded, plan on waiting a while to get drinks and barely being able to move around inside. The parking lot fills up early and waiting to valet for $6 takes awhile too. They will tow if you park at any surrounding business including the large grocery store parking lot. We parked in the neighborhood past Mo's and walked. The line to get your car from valet looked long and I'm sure those people waited 20-30 minutes to get their cars. If you live close and just want to dance and have fun, go on nights that they don't have big performers. read more

MO's place is my new favorite place in Katy after softball games are Friday nights when I'm on that side of town visiting friends, drink specials are always on point and it's huge when the open it up on the weekends. Tuesday nights is also kinda happening as well, and even Thursday's. They play a variety of music which great and it's not the same old country music or line dancing music. I would say it's also a safe place to hang out with friends. The staff really do care about their customers. I witnessed myself the staff personally bring some patrons home who had,had alittle to much to drink, usually that doesn't happen but these guys/ girls are great. The dance floors are alittle small but they make up for it by excitement and atmosphere that they have in the bar. They also serve food during the week or even munchies on some weekends which is great. So far when I have experienced MO's it's been a great time with the regulars just having drinks and enjoying themselves. read more

This is a nicely laid out neighborhood bar with several bars, pool tables, a dance floor and a show stage that draws great headliners. Unfortunately it also seems to draw many 21 to 31 year olds who just want to drink, fight and pick up one night stands. I've been to two different fundraising events here so I know that the owner is socially conscious. The people I know who know him absolutely love him. But for a nighttime and weekend going out place I've been consistently disappointed. I think that maybe too many years of being too relaxed with the crowd makes it where a more mature clientele will prefer other bars. I saw Ronnie Milsap and Uncle Kracker here. Both times the dance floor was overpacked with drunk angry boys who ended up fighting. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the wild music that caused it. You can't really come here to visit with friends either, it's too loud. I've tried that several times too. The dance floor is too small and I have yet to come when there were any real dancers here so bring your own. If you want to dance you're better off going to Midnight Rodeo or Wild West. BUT.... If you want to drink beer and get wild in a smoky loud environment, this is the place for you! read more

Pretty nice spot in Katy. Been around for over 20 years so they have done a lot of remodeling over time. Nice and big on the inside. Rumor has it they have some pretty popular country singers every now and again. Parking is terrible if you don't get there at a decent hour. They do valet but I wouldn't pay the money. read more

This northern city girl has no idea if this is a "real" honky tonk or not, I suspect it's not since they played hip hop between band sets but I don't care. I had a blast here...and I was with my aunt and mother. That says something. Came here after dealing with my borderline dementia crazy grandma and her moving issues. We all just needed a drink. I ended up staying almost until close. First of all I loved seeing the Texan tuxedo (wrangler's, cowboy boots, and cowboy hats) everywhere. There's something about wranglers and what they do to a man's booty that makes me happy. Second, I freaked out about seeing two stepping. My mom is native Texan and talks about it all the time so seeing it made me happy and made me feel like I was getting in touch with my Texan roots. Thirdly, I was ASKED to dance. Not just grabbed and grinded upon but legitimately asked. It was amazing. Guys just don't do that anymore....except in Texas apparently. Fourth, the band played country music that was on average 20 years old. The stuff I grew up with. The stuff that was legitimately still country before this pop/rock country fusion...which I love don't get me wrong but artists today need to reacquaint themselves with the fiddle and steel guitar. Loved it. Fifth, I had the chance to honor my late grandpa by sipping on Lone Star longnecks all night. Basically this place is a blast. Young, old, black, white, causally dressed and skankified all come here. Also this place is famous for featuring up and coming country artists. If they are in country and played the clubs before hitting it big they probably played here. If they are signed but still relatively unknown they will play here. If they used to be huge and are on the tail end of their career they will play here. Mo's ability to book talent is quite astonishing. If you like country music this is the place to come. Even if you don't and you can tolerate it, it's a good time. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I normally give places the benefit of the doubt, but I have been here several times now and have never had an experience that makes me want to come back. My friend really wanted to go see Josh Abbott for her birthday so we went and it was one fiasco after another. First, they oversold the concert so not only was it uncomfortably crowded, but 5 of our friends who bought pre-sale tickets had to wait outside for 45 minutes, waiting for people to leave so they could come into the bar that was filled over capacity. The parking lot is too small to accommodate and they were so full they weren't even valeting cars anymore. I have NEVER been turned down by a valet. The wait at the bar was ridiculous and bartenders showed preference to certain customers and the waitresses took forever to get back with a drink. The crowning blow was that our waitress lost our friend's credit card. She brought back the slip to sign but no card and said that someone in our party must have it. After that, she brought another friend's card (who happened to be in the restroom at that moment) and just left it on the table. We confronted the owner and he sided with the waitress. Very unprofessional. You've already lost one card, don't you think you might want to place every other card in the hand of the person it belongs to? Once the show was over, they had a DJ which was a joke. He'd try to "mix" but it just wasn't working and the bass in the speakers kept cutting on and off. Headphones and iTunes does not make you a DJ. Plus it was a little sad to see a bunch of country people shaking it to the "jams" of 2005 like its the new hit that just dropped. PS: You're going to have to take 3 showers afterward just to get the smoke smell out of your hair. read more

I am going to have to agree with Nikki on this one. First off, if you grew up in the Katy or Cypress area, this is going to be another one of your high school reunion bars. The parking lot is small and always packed so you have to park behind the bar, or across the street in the grocery store parking lot. And if you are lucky enough to find a spot, it will either have broken bottles in it or the "valet" people will come out and tell you that it is a valet spot and you either need to pay or move. Then when you try to get it there is always a cover, even if a crappy no name band is playing. When you do get inside it is packed wall to wall and you can move, get a drink, or dance. All of which are reason you went there in the first place. But a bright spot is that on some night they have $1 beers, I don't know if it is still going on but the drinks are usually fairly cheap. It does take a special circumstance to get me to go to this bar. read more

This is i think the only place to go if you live out towards katy. Its a diamond in the rough. They have tons on pool tables and a dance floor for country dancing. They play hip hop some but its mostly country. So if you are like me, a person who likes hip hop and rap a lot more than country, its a happy medium if you want to go out with some friends. Drinks are cheap there too which is a plus. So if you are ever out in katy or want to head out into the boonies to try something new, head over to mo's. Parking is a little tight so the earlier you get there the better. read more

I went here for a Joe Nichols concert with a few friends. The ambiance and music were great! A DJ played until the concert started and the music was jammin.The venue was spacious, the beers weren't too expensive and overall it was a really festive night. As a female I definetly appreciated the clean bathrooms. My only recommendation is to watch out for the crowd on concert nights. 2nd Time I have been ripped off. I went there over the holidays with a friend and left a $2 tip on $18 beer tab with my debit card. Well the bartenders entered $7 instead of $2. I kept a copy and clearly put 2, but my guess is they will say the 2 looked like a 7. Problem is this happened before when I went there over the holidays a year ago where they added more to the tip. This was the place to go in the '90s. Ever since Mo, Jr., took over, he's been riding on his dad's reputation rather than running the place like it should be run. Service has gone from great to lousy. All the good bartenders left. One bartender put all my change in the tip jar without asking. When I told him I wanted my change, he refused to serve me for the rest of the night. One of the female bartenders would put her fingers into drinks when lifting several instead of grabbing around the glasses or carrying fewer at a time. (I told Mo, Jr., but he didn't do anything about it.) The bartenders keep their drinks in the same ice bin they fill glasses from. (Looks like a health code violation to me!) Advertised as a country bar, but many nights plays 40% or less country. Patrons used to be polite, but with the change in venue, people now push people out the way instead of say "excuse me". Hey, Mo, Jr. -- Give the bar back to your dad and let him show you how to run it. read more

Moes is way too expensive cover charge. They want 10 dollars just to get in the bar and the lady at the front was not very nice. On top of that drink prices can be expensive and just not a good experience. Woukd recommended wild west or midnight rodeo instead read more
