Standard Louisiana seafood place with a nice view of the river from the patio. Seafood pasta lunch special was good - shrimp and crab in a cream sauce, but maybe a little too big for a lunch portion. The coleslaw that came with it had a good mayo base, but the cabbage could have been shredded a little finer. The "famous" seafood salad had really good shrimp and crabmeat and was a nice size. The iceberg lettuce needed to be chopped in smaller pieces (big chunks made it hard to eat). I usually do not like tiny gumbo shrimp, but these were very well seasoned with crab/shrimp boil seasoning. And another five full size shrimp on top were really good. Location; looked in Madisonville which was my first visit to this small and cute town, the restaurant you can't miss limited parking, may need to park down the street. Super down to earth feeling inside, with very traditional tables, and cushion ish chairs. Food; Started with Hushpuppies, which were crisp, warm and good. Went tonight and while we used to come here a lot, this was our first visit in several years and unfortunately our last. The fried mushrooms were over cooked the side salad nothing tonwrite home about and my husbands seafood salad had a very strong fish smell. To top it off the gumbo was not edible. It was sour! I have been going to Morton's since the 80's. Last night we there to eat & our meal was very lack luster. I had grilled mahi-mahi with an eggplant casserole and a side salad. The salad was none appealing it looked like it had been sit on the plate for days. The best things was the salad dressing, it was the one with spinach. Very unusual but very tasty. The grilled mahi-mahi is supposed to be an 8oz fillet ( this is what the owner told me). Either she needs to raise the price on the dish or get rid of the dish. Oh yea I forgot to mention another great thing was our waiter, and he really cared about us. I paid $18.95 for my meal. I only wish I would have taken a pic of the salad. I am still trying to find the rest of the fish it never has shown up. Look at the pic y'all will not believe I was served this last night and paid $18.95 for fish that was not on the plate. Todays visit to Morton's Seafood Restaurant in Madisonville has been a total cluster. The first thing our waitress, Brittany, said to us was don't you want to sit at a two top table outside. Another restaurant that used to be great is no longer what it used for be. I hadn't visited Morton's in almost a year and I must say I will no longer be a returning customer. My little sister loves seafood so we went on Monday to eat for her birthday. The seafood is mostly fried they don't have a lot of fresh options so we mainly ordered Poboys. My little sister ordered hers fried shrimp and My older sister, my dad and myself ordered grilled. My little sister's fried shrimp were tiny tiny and mostly breading. I got the grilled shrimp poboy and you can tell it's frozen shrimp it's tiny and it had a very fishy smell to it. My sister and dad who also got grilled shrimp agreed. I also ordered the gumbo and by far it is the worst sour tasting gumbo I have ever had. I wouldn't even call that gumbo it was li sewer water. I truly don't understand how a restaurant who used to have delicious food doesn't feel ashamed to serve and sale customers this disgusting food. I see it happening all around town. Restaurants begin making delicious food then all of a sudden start buying cheaper quality products and slowly start losing business. I wouldn't be surprised if they closed down with in 6 months. I was headed to Mandeville, LA when a small, quaint town caught my eye. Madisonville. Located on the riverfront with yachts docked along the side. I found a restaurant called 'Morton's' (no, not the inevitable chain), but a nice restaurant with a lot of pizazz. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, my server (Blair) was knowledgeable with a friendly smile. I ordered a 'Morton's Cajun Ice Tea' to start. Lemon vodka, sweet tea vodka, homemade tea and a lemon. Then I ordered oysters in 1/2 shell (served with horseradish, crackers and cocktail sauce... all of the accoutrements) to start. They're HUGE and delicious. Next: the crab cakes served with shrimp cream sauce. They're delectable. Crunchy outside with a crab filling that was mostly crab. Finally! Haha. To finish, 'homemade bread pudding with rum sauce. I'm going out on a limb on this one, but when in Rome.... It was the proper ending to a great meal. Amazing sauce with apples and cinnamon. Morton's is technically across the street from the water, but it is definitely my kind of place. Morton's is a traditional seafood restaurant like the ones I grew up with. If you're familiar with Bruning's, Russel's or Friend's; it's that kind of place. They offer nearly every variety of local seafood in a casual relaxing environment. The one thing you need to be prepared for is a wait. Morton's is very popular and often fills up. I called ahead when I was nearly there and lucked out with no wait. Shortly after being seated, the onslaught of humanity began. If you are planning on going and don't want to wait, call ahead or plan to come during off peak hours. This particular meal was made even more special because I took my mom with me. I don't know if she realized the significance of us coming here, but I sure did. You see, this is the type of place we went when I was a kid. restaurants like this are permanently etched into my brain. Getting to experience that again with her was really special. OK, enough reminiscing and back to the review. My entree was the fried shrimp platter and fries. This is my absolute favorite dish to order in a seafood restaurant, and their version did not disappoint. I didn't take a count before I started eating, but I'd bet there were almost 20 shrimp on that plate. They were perfectly fried and a great value. Normally when eating fried shrimp I mix up a batch of ketchup and Tabasco for dipping. The ratio is usually three parts Tabasco to one part ketchup and this time was no different. What was different is that I actually used and enjoyed their tartar sauce that accompanied the platter. That is an extremely rare occurrence for me as most tartar sauce gets tossed on the ground forcefully upon tasting. So even after this awesome meal, why did Morton's only rate four stars? It was the service. While it was not horrible, I felt like the server was too busy and left us somewhat abandoned. In summary, Morton's is awesome. I've been coming to this place since they opened. I grew up in the area and my family is still nearby. The location is incredible. The service is always excellent. The food is generally good, but I have a complaint! Last summer I took a large group of people from out of town there and I recommended the oyster po boy. many people had one and the bread was really bad, very stale. I was so disappointed, but I wrote it off as a bad day and a one off kind of thing. However, I went back today and had a po boy served on very stale bread. I am a native of the area. I've eaten 1 million Po boys. I know what fresh po boy bread should be like. Really bummed me out because I want this place to be great. And I know it's possible to get good bread in this area. Are you getting quality bread and just serving it after it is stale or is it not good bread from the get go. I've had po boys from Frady's and Domelise recently and you guys should make a sandwich that's up to that standard. I've had it before ar Morton's many times when it was great. Last time, like this one, after being seated, I went to the hostess to ensure we had a waiter or waitress assigned after 15 minutes. After listening to the waitress make excuses the first time for the delay, I asked again for a waiter or waitress. A young waiter was ready to swoop in and help, but he was shut down by another waitress. After specifically asking not to send the pre-existing waitress, she continued to return and disappoint. We love stopping in these parts of Madisonville when on the way home from a raid trip or if out in that area. The view is nice. The restaurant, well not so much as far as taste. The place itself is nice. I like the waterfront dining view. This particular stop we tried the gumbo and I had the chicken salad. The dressing was bland. The gumbo was so so. I ordered Tchefuncte Martini that sounded like it would colorful. Wrong LOL. My husband said he figured it looks just like the river it's named after. Hahaha. It tasted good though. The food was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, polite, and correctly filled our orders. We sat outside on the porch and the view was nice. The Tchefuncte River runs almost right in front of the restaurant. You can watch the boats go by and the bridge opens every hour on the hour. The bathrooms were clean and stocked. The prices were high. You'll pay $18 for a basic charbroiled white fish, $16 for a fried catfish plate, and $5 per crab. That said, the portions were good. My fish plate came with some sort of brown soy-vinaigrette sauce that tasted unfortunate. I declined to use it and instead opted to squeeze a provided lemon slice over the charbroiled fish. Tasty! The side salad seemed pre-made. It wasn't what I'd call crispy fresh. Recommend the Twisted Chargrilled Oyster appetizer. They come with parmesan cheese and crab meat on top. read more

We drove 48 minutes to dine here just to get greeted with this pathetic menu. I don't care what the reasoning was for this trash tier menu, it was a slap in the face. First off, the waiter was on his first or second week working there, but he was great, no issues there. Had the fish and shrimp plate with baked potato as well as the bread pudding.
