I drive a 4runner so they have plenty in stock, and use much higher quality glass than other places I've been to. The frame around my windshield was scratched by a previous installer (SL) before I bought the vehicle. It was about 3inches of missing paint with some rust in the center. Tom assured me he would remove the rust and prime over it (luckily my vehicle is black to match their primer) and that once they properly install the glass, the gasket should be covering the scratch anyway -- another L for the previous installers.

I heard the sound of it hitting, but because it hit very low, I didn't see any damage to my windshield. I thought maybe I'd managed to get away without a problem. By the time I arrived home I'd forgotten about the incident. Then two days later the foot-long crack showed up in my windshield. UGH! I called my insurance man and he recommended Precision Auto Glass over the very popular, much advertised, nationwide auto glass company. He said he thought Precision provided a much better quality product. I called Precision, prepared for a long, drawn out, inconvenient ordeal for getting my windshield replaced and paid for. That's when I heard Amber's friendly voice on the phone welcoming me to Precision Auto Glass. I told her about the crack and she told me about the price to replace the windshield. She also mentioned that I needed to get my windshield "calibrated" which would cost a couple hundred more. UGH! I told her I had insurance coverage and she said, "Let me conference your insurance company into this call to get their approval." What?!? I didn't have to do this on my own? She got the insurance company on the phone and they quickly approved the Precision Auto Glass service. All I needed to do was pay $50 when the technician came out to replace my windshield. Ahhhhh. The next day, Adam, from Precision Auto Glass called to let me know he was arriving during the early part of our scheduled service window to do the replacement. He was friendly and professional and I could tell when he started working that he was very skilled at replacing windshields. When he finished I gave him my credit card and paid the $50 insurance deductible. I was immediately contacted by Dynamic Calibration Systems, the company who would do the calibration of the windshield camera. They were ready to come out to do the calibration. The following day worked out better so I arranged to have their technician meet me at my job. The next day, Noah, a charming and very tall technician came to my work to do the calibration on my windshield camera. Thirty minutes later, the whole replacement and calibration process was complete. The only effort on my part was making the initial call to Precision Auto Glass and pulling out my credit card to pay the deductible. I met so many nice, competent people because of this stone hitting my car! Is it odd that I'm almost looking forward to having another crack in my windshield..? :-)

When I received quotes from several companies…read moreSafelite was the only company that explained the windshield replacement required recalibration to make the safety features work with the new windshield. The car was new so I had no idea. The quotes from the other companies were cheaper so I am pretty sure they didn't understand this needed to be done or didn't have the capacity to do it. None of the other companies mentioned that the safety features would not work without the recalibration. The dealership verified that Safelite was correct this needed to be done. In addition, Safelite was able to come to my home to do the work very quickly and the technician was professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. I wish I had written down his name - I would call him out in this review if I could. I will always use Safelite in the future for this work - they know what they are doing.

They seemed to understand how frustrating a situation like that can be, and treated it with a sense of urgency that was greatly appreciated. Jeremy came to my location and installed my new window quickly and with incredible professionalism. I barely even had to do anything, he just did it all while I had to work in my office. Then he noticed my windshield had a crack in it as well, and showed me how it was in danger of spidering and getting worse. He ended up fixing that as well on the spot free of charge! (With insurance). Apparently most car insurance covers that sort of thing with no out of pocket expense, and thanks to Jeremy's knowledge of that benefit I was able to address that as well.
