First, I really appreciate your honest advice. I was told by other flooring contractors that I needed to completely relevel my floor before I could install laminate flooring -- they gave me very costly estimates. After talking with you, carefully looking at the condition of my floor, and reviewing the flooring manufacturer's installation requirements, I found this is NOT required. This saved me a lot $$$. Second, I really appreciate your patience with me. I originally thought you would be working on the floor within the month of your estimate but, being a DIYer and working on a very old house (1972), my project took much, much longer. You also talked with me throughout that process/waiting period, visiting with me, and giving advice and moral support. Let me share with you my experience,…read more Walter their salesman came out to give me a bid Once he found out that Home Depot had done the estimate already, he just used the amount of boxes which was about 80 for the estimate. He did no measuring or anything else. He was gone in about 10 minutes. (I needed only labor as I was purchasing the material from Home Depot.) Once we agreed on Price to have all the existing solid wood baseboard, removed the new floor put down and the baseboard put back. I agreed to the job. Pricing; I agreed on 50% down and 50% when the job was completed to maintain some control of the final product I'm very glad I did this. Their policy is to get 100% upfront, which I never recommend anyone for any service, ever do. The very next day after agreeing on terms with Walter, I got a call asking for 100% of the money I told this lady that's not what we agreed to and she said well that's what we normally do and I said you better call Walter. I'm gonna cancel the job. She did came back excepted 50% Overall, the subcontractors that came out from a company called Sun sunshine floors did a pretty good job putting in the material But it's the follow up , putting doors back on , getting trim put back on that was a real headache and took me almost 30 days to get done and also a threat of a complaint to get what I considered to be a very reasonable discount about $370 off my bill In the end, I fixed the existing problems myself because it was too much of a headache after they finally agreed to give me the discount Finally, a reminder again if you use this company, do not pay 100% upfront you'll have no control over the job over anything that needs to get fixed and you'll be working on their timetable, while they have all your money ------- Part 2 It's smart that Kelly took down her first knee jerk response to my above comment since is was inaccurate and not well researched. "Telling me I agreed not to leave public comment in agreement for the discount" -that was true if you accepted my generous offer.... the first go round. I'm going to guess that she finally got around to actually reading.... the 2nd email with my threat to file a complaint with yelp. Poof.....gone and replaced with boiler plate sorry we messed up and we should have done better. " Kelly, I wish you would have taken seriously my first initial complaint to your company and really taken the time to call me and find out what happened, Sincerely apologize, accept my generous offer and maybe even go a bit farther to make me happy and satisfied, If you had done so, we wouldn't be having this stupid engagement in the first place. We had a problem, that was not the crew's fault, when our fridge ice maker line leaked after the application of the first finish coat. They were great and got it taken care of, re-sanding and refinishing the affected areas. The only issue was communication, especially early on. Be sure to coordinate with the managers so that the plans have been communicated to the crew before the work starts, and stay in touch with the managers. Once I engaged with them it was quite responsive , and most importantly the work is fantastic. We will be enjoying these floors for decades.

Carpet - Cooks was recommended to us from multiple real estate agents, and we were excited to find…read morea company that seemed friendly and professional. The carpet we selected was several weeks away in terms of delivery, that was fine. The carpet showed up and the install was scheduled, there was one person to install about 1,400 square feet in a newly finished basement, up the stairs and an office on the main level. I helped the installer move furniture, which theoretically was included, and with more than one installer would not have been an issue. The real issue is that with a light carpet the installer ground leaves and gravel into the carpet, although we understand that it is common to bring the carpet into the house through the basement windows this isn't acceptable. When the installation was done it was not even vacuumed, there are stains on the new carpet, we contacted Cooks and the contact that we worked with told us that the installers are independent contractors. Great, there's almost 10K wasted, don't use them. We emailed with our concerns, and in our opinion were completely blown off.
