Found the place from Yelp during a visit to Dearborn and we had a fun dining experience. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Sadly, no room for dessert. We ordered the eggplant special and the chicken tetrazzini. My eggplant was just right and came with a side of penne rigate with a zesty marinara. Her tetrazzini was very rich and delicious - and it was enough for three meals. Before the entrees the waiter gave us bread and butter then later tossed and dressed the salad at the table. Waiters there were part-server and part-showman as they made salads and desserts (eg bananas foster) at the table. Despite being busy they managed to be attentive and were well supported by bus staff - it's a well run place. Our waiter fixed the collar of an elderly gentleman who was preparing to leave. Call me old fashioned, but I loved that touch of class. If I'm in Dearborn again, I will seek out this restaurant. Highly recommended. read more

The ambience is amazing. The wait staff is very attentive but I thought the food was pricey and frankly not that good. The Swiss onion soup, is pretty much beef gravy with some onions and a few overlarge croutons. My sister had the lentil soup which was surprisingly sweet. The shrimp scampi was over done and had no flavor. I expect scampi to be garlicky, this wasn't. The salad and tiramisu were good, so if I go back I'll just have those. Our waiter was great, enthusiastic and very friendly but for the prices, I would expect much better food. read more

We do not live near this wonderful restaurant,but we're in the area for a funeral. We found it on Yelp and day the most wonderful meal that we've had for a very long time. The food was terrific, some of the best Italian ever. our waiter, who was the owner's son brought our food and said it was for the king and queen. It was such a treat to fine this little restaurant who has been there since 1980, according to our waiter. The carrot cake was terrific, too, even though we didn't really need dessert. One of the best Italian meals I've enjoyed in a long time. First, the establishment has a bit of a mob/gangster nostalgia to me. Felt like I was eating at Louis Restaurant in The Godfather. Public enjoying food out front while the "boss" is in back with the "family." The food is excellent. I had the Veal Marsala (like Sollozzo says in The Godfather, "Try the veal. It's the best in the city", and the service is A-1 top notch. My party raved about the white fish, the spagetii, and the pesto pasta. All sauces are made fresh and i wouldn't be at all surprised if the pasta is made fresh too. Treat yourself, if you love authentic Italian food, this is the spot. read more

I will call this throwback Sunday because Moro's is a classic Italian restaurant with servers in Tuxedos and salads prepared table side. Dinners come with the aforementioned salad, choice of soup, and an entree with potato and vegetable. All this for a reasonable price. I would come back for the service alone. Marco was fantastic. Fun, personable and knowledgeable. As he was taking out order, one of his customers came to thank him for outstanding service. He also made a great Cosmo for my date. The food was half a star short of perfection. I had the cod and my companion the veal piccata. The cod was well prepared, but I would have preferred some kind of sauce to accompany it. The green beans were excellent but I did not eat the potatoes Anna (sigh I'm a low carb eater). Her meal was excellent. The restaurant provides a wonderful value for the food and service. What a disappointment!!!! Went there for my wife's birthday dinner. We've frequented this restaurant for many years at least once a month. It takes 45 minutes to get there and was worth the drive until this time. My wife ordered the shrimp scampi and I had the veal parmesan. Our favorites from past visits. The food portions were significantly smaller in size and the price for the shrimp scampi was $60.00 for eight shrimp. This used to cost around $38.00 for a dozen shrimp. Imagine my shock when the bill came. My veal was smaller in size with no side pasta. This is our last time ever going there. I understand with COVID going on they are trying to make up for lost revenue but you could at least tell your customers that their "specials" went way up in price. This place is a joke!!! read more

In town for work and my group and I were led to this place by a local. We weren't disappointed! This place knows exactly what it is, and makes no efforts to be anything but classic. Waiters in bow ties, table backs in white tuxes, multiple dishes available for table side presentation, and a timeless menu that's jam-packed with old school Italian-American dishes. Ambience reminds me of a speak easy in the basement of some Chicago or New York high rise, very cool. Service was nothing short of spectacular. Our waiter (who I believe is the owner's son in law) gave great recommendations and knew the specials (there were probably 6-7 for the night) like the back of his hand. Portions were huge - we all ordered pasta dishes and shared. None of them disappointed and my veal paprikas was, in my opinion, the star. The Marsala and parmagiana versions didn't suck either! We REALLY wanted to love this place, especially since we love Italian food and we recently moved downriver. The atmosphere is adorable, but the food left much to be desired. The meat bolognese sauce had a strange taste to it, almost like it was sitting in a burnt pot and reheated. I have been hearing about this place forever so I finally decided to try it. I went with the special - shrimp scampi and my friend got the cannelloni special. Portion size is huge. Cannelloni was good but not a wow. Shrimp were HUGE and plentiful. It was more lemony than expected - would have preferred more of the garlic and butter. Imagine you're in a time machine and you're sent back to the 1950s. Imagine you're an Italian and you're sent back to your house to celebrate with family. This place gave me all the memories of when I was growing up in my Italian household. The portion sizes are great the courses keep coming and the wait staff is extremely friendly. Simply put, the best Italian cuisine in Metro Detroit. Everything is absolutely delicious. I took my best friend to Moro's for her birthday yesterday and she loved it, she's 100% Italian and kept saying this is my Mom's cooking! Marco is an amazing waiter! He is a true professional. It's a joy to watch him prepare the table side salads and the cherries jubilee. He's such a happy, knowledgeable, positive front of the house presence. You can tell he truly enjoys what he does! The place runs seamlessly and it's always a place with a positive and great, old school, rat pack clubby vibe. The staff is amazing. Everything about this place is right. I have been coming here for years and have NEVER been disappointed. EVER! My sister ordered the eggplant parmigiana and said it was the best she ever had. Boyfriend and I ate here last night with boyfriend's sister & her boyfriend. They insisted on taking us, said it was the best authentic Italian we would ever eat and they loved the place. When we arrived, we were greeted promptly and were informed there was a wait (hostess did not inform us of how long it would be) so we took a seat in a cramped waiting area. It ended up being about a 30 minute wait, and our table was ready just in time since a large group entered and it was getting quite crowded. Our table was in a cozy corner near an electric fireplace, which was actually really nice. The place is smaller, dimly lit, and relaxing. Our server came over and obtained our drink order which was delivered promptly by another hostess. The bread & butter was good - but I doubt it was fresh baked. So far, we were off to a good start. 10 minutes or so after we got our drinks, the server returned and rattled off the daily specials so quickly that I could barely process it. Then he asked us for our order. I still hadn't decided so he said he would grab the shrimp cocktail that my boyfriend's sister ordered, and that he would return. He was literally gone for a full half hour. The table next to is actually got up and left, after sitting for 15 minutes waiting for their drinks. We saw him at multiple other tables - I'm not sure if they were short staffed or what, but holy cow it was bad. When he finally returned, he slid up to the table and said "heeyyyyy..." as if he knew he was sucking badly and we were getting ticked. The salads were served up promptly, made tableside. They have egg in them, which I didn't care for. The dressing was good though. Shortly after the salads came the soups. 2 of us got the Swiss onion, 1 got minestrone, and 1 clam chowder. Boyfriend said the chowder was the best he ever had. I personally didn't care for the Swiss onion, but boyfriend's sister loved it. Minestrone must have been good as that individual finished it off. Soup bowls were cleared, and then we WAITED. It was an additional 30 minutes at least (by this time we had checked the time and discovered that we had been at the table for well over an hour) and when the server finally arrived with the food he blamed it on the kitchen and plopped it down on the table. While he was there I requested another glass of Pinot Grigio.. and was brought moscato. This was replaced promptly once we were able to flag him back down. The food is the reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1. My beef Marsala was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was tasty. Boyfriend got the lamb chop special it loved it. I tried a bit of sister's boyfriend's veal picante and it was delicious. Her spaghetti tetrazzini looked tasty as well. We ended up having most of the food packed up to go... today my boyfriend took his box from the fridge and discovered he got his sisters extra side of pesto pasta and one lamb chop... so they messed up. She confirmed she has 3 lamb chops and her tetrazzini at her house. Sheesh. Overall, the service completely destroyed the experience. Boyfriend and I agree we don't care to return. I don't care how good your food is if you can't provide good service. 2 and a half hours for a simple dinner is just absurd and we never got an apology for anything - the server just blamed the kitchen and proceeded to move on. One of my favorite restaurants I haven't been to in quite a while. My husband surprised me by this suggestion tonight. It's or anniversary and he wanted to treat me to something local that I love for once lol. We usually go to downtown Detroit. I had a glass of red Moscato, that was cold. So many places serve it warm...yuck. I got their Swiss onion soup and I'd highly recommend it. It's one of my favorite soups from any place. I ordered the sirloin beef medallions in zip sauce, cooked perfectly medium rare and so tender my grandma could chew them with her gums. Very tasty. It comes with potatoes and green beans. I had a couple bites of the green beans but, I was saving myself for the cherry jubillee. That was a good game plan because I ate almost every bite of it and wished I had more! This is the best place in Allen Park! I went here with my wife for the first time. I lived in Allen Park for 24 years and never have come here and I feel like I wasted some of my life. This was an excellent experience. We arrived at 5pm on a Friday night. The place was not packed but it's not a large space to begin with. We sat for about 20 min and were seated. The atmosphere is as intimate as a small space can be. We ordered drinks and had a piece of bread and butter. (these are the only things I thought were lacking, the flavor and taste was kind of bland) After that we got the salad. It was a great salad that I still have cravings for. We ordered soups as our appetizer. I had the chowder. We then went to the entree portion of the meal, I had the filet and she had the surf and turf. My filet was cooked perfectly with a little burntness on the outside. I really liked the burnt part because it gives the meal a whole new texture and makes you appreciate the "inside" part. We had the potato and green beans as our sides. We also ordered the fettuccini that was EXCELLENT! We saved room for desert and got the bananas foster, yup, that did it. The flavors and taste was so good that one could go back and just order that. I plan to go back and hopefully take friends with me. What a gem for downriver! read more

A disappointing occurrence for a longtime customer. My Mother received a gift certificate seven years ago to Moro's Restaurant. Unfortunately, she was never able to use the certificate. I recently found the 50.00 certificate in my Mother's papers. I gave it to my Brother and his wife to use for their anniversary. I assumed the gift card would be honored as there was no expiration date and it had been paid for with a credit card. My Brother was told they could not use the certificate because at the time it was sold, Moro's employed a person who was fraudulently selling gift certificates, and they were not sure the 'Moro's Gift Certificate' was authentic. This certificate was paid for with a credit card, so I am sure the fee was paid to the Moro's owners. The manager/ owner was unwilling to resolve this situation in any way. This is more than disappointing. The loss of the monetary value of the gift certificate is not what bothers me. The fact that Moro's will not honor a product they sold does. I am not sure why a 'fraudulent employee' has become a customer's problem. The end result is that I will never again visit Moro's. I will not recommend the restaurant to any friends, families or visitors to this area. I would caution anyone when purchasing a gift certificate to get proof that you have paid for it, as it may not be honored over the long term. read more

How anyone could ever not give 5 stars is beyond me. Yes it's in Allen Park but this place isn't just some mom and pop dining place. Everything on the menu is superb. I have often gone there just for the lamb chops. I have never had a bad meal here. With every entrée you receive a soup and a salad. There is such an old feel to the environment. They prepare the salad out at your table and in someway I believe everyone feel special eating at Moro's. If there was another category between the two star "Meh, I've experienced better" (which I have), and the three star "A-Ok", that is probably where this review would land. My biggest complaint? It's dated. The decor is dated, the menu is really dated, and the portion sizes are also really dated. The service definitely rates 3 stars, despite the somewhat cheesy tableside salad preparation. It's not like it was a Caesar, with fresh dressing..... The food was fresh and well prepared, although I would've like more garlic on my shrimp scampi. Hub's steak with zip sauce was tender and cooked just right (although we suspect there might be a sous vide back in the kitchen). The sides of potato and veg were on the bland side. The bread was nothing special, and even the butter tasted "flat". The minestrone was tasty and served piping hot, the way soup should be! My suggestions would be to update the menu, with smaller portion sizes and accompanying lower prices. From what I've read, and heard, the menu hasn't changed for years. Moro's is like a cross between a 'family style' restaurant, and a fancier place - nice tablecloths and napkins, but tired flatware and dishes. Again, dated. If you do go, you will find the food to be tasty, and served hot. If you're looking for ambience, an exciting menu, you might want to try somewhere else. I'm grading this on the Detroit scale, in which every restaurant gets one star more than it would in most locales. Easy to get to location, limited parking and a bit hectic on a Fri/Sat night, but worth the effort if you want a good meal around here. I had great service all three times that I've been here, and overall it's a nice semi-formal restaurant. They nailed the the Pittsburgh Rare steak, the shrimp scampi is delicious, and everything else was good, almost but not quite great. Otherwise, the menu is classic Italian fare with a few interesting additions. In this area, I have yet to find a better restaurant. read more

This place is nostalgic, great ambiance, and the service was on point. Our waitress Shay, was amazing. She was extremely polite and courteous. She knew the specials like the back of her hand and even napkined our laps in a swoop. We ordered off the specials but I'm a wine smug and she paired a delicious Merlot with our veal. I wanted a white wine with a veal because it tends to match it well but her choice really brought out the flavors in our meals and complimented the sauce. Not many waiters know the pairing, so I trusted her call. Plus she had a great smile so I couldn't refuse that. The meal consisted of a Moro's salad. I asked for the salad to be made with salt at the end because sometimes you can't taste the salt when you mix it. She told us that the reason she adds the salt, pepper, oils then vinegar in that order was for consistency. The vinegar once added breaks down the ingredients to give it that mesmerizing taste. There's a secret sauce added to it prior but she couldn't give much details on that because it's a house secret. Again, don't doubt this woman. Water never was low and her attention was consistent with us and her other tables. Next was the soup, and it was delicious. I had the minestrone. When our meals came out the smell was intoxicating. This is the part of the experience I was waiting for when coming to a place like this. Shay noticed we weren't drinking while eating. She told us to have a bite of our veal then quickly take a sip of our wine. I kid you not my taste buds were LIT. Not only was it complimenting but I tasted the wine so much better and tasted the quality of meat. Man. Finally, we cleared our palettes with a fruit bowl and walnuts. Lots of food, wine and laughter. Was a great way to start off the weekend. So when you come in to a place like this. Trust your waiters or in our case our waitress. This place was highly recommended and had a line waiting to be seated, so I thought I was in for a great dinner. After waiting for close to an hour for a table, we were finally seated. I did not mind the wait because the staff was working as hard and fast as they could. They were just severely under-staffed like everyone else. Plus, we had a chance to talk to many other patrons who were repeat customers. The service was slow, but that was okay. What wasn't okay was paying $60 for a dozen overcooked, chewy shrimp. We've been eating at Moro's for 35 years. My wife and I and friends drive in from Canton, Farmington Hills, Waterford, and West Bloomfield to eat there. It is always worth the drive for such great meals. Because of its popularity, there is sometimes a short wait, during peak times. If you go to the restaurant during times or days that they are less busy, you'll usually be seated immediately, as we almost always are. By the way, 26 of us just ate there yesterday in celebration of our joint 70th birthday celebration. We are all 1964 graduates and most of us are tired and cranky. We were there for over three hours, eating, drinking and celebrating. Great meals, absolutely no complaints. We dined at Moro on March 12, and it was a wonderful experience! Prior to joining Yelp I'd not heard a peep about Moro - but after reading some promising reviews I knew I HAD to visit. This is old-school dining at it's finest: lots of retro dishes on the menu, served up with tons of charm (so don't expect anything avant-garde or fusiony). The 8 of us arrived at Moro from Ann Arbor around 7 p.m. I had read on the website that they do not take reservations, but I guess this isn't exactly true - larger groups can do a "call ahead" for seating. Either way, we were promptly seated. Our server was a delightful man who'd been working at Moro for 25 years - and it showed. He was practically psychic in guessing what we needed. For soup we were split between clam chowder, swiss onion, and the minestrone. The chowder was fantastic, lots of clams, rich, satisfying, my husband loved the minestrone - practically licking the bowl clean, and the rest of the table had the swiss onion...which after trying it, was the best onion soup I've ever had...hands down. Salad was composed tableside, and was a nice blend of butter and romaine lettuce, chickpeas, tomato, egg, and oil/vinegar. Mmmm. Here's what was ordered by the group: - Spaghetti and Meatballs: the sauce was a long, slow-cooked tomato sauce redolent of browned-butter, onion, and basil. Fantastic. Meatballs were herby and delicate. - Veal Casalinga: Veal with proscuitto, herbs, tomato, butter. All dishes came with these savory garlic-parmesan broad beans and a glazed potato. I loved the beans, but later wished I'd have ordered a pasta side instead of the potato. - "House" Veal: Tableside presentation. Two sauces, cream and tomato based, liberally flamed with cognac - likely the best dish at the table. - Veal Marsala: Tender veal with tomato, pepper, onion. Not the most tradtional presentation, but very flavorful. - Veal Picata: Delicious lemon-butter sauce, simple and scrumptious. - Beef with Marsala and Mushrooms: Heartier version of the veal marsala. - Antipasi for 2 (more like Antipasti for 4/6 it was so huge!) Large platter of marinated mushrooms, boiled-beef in oil and vinegar, olives, herbed feta, and a side plate of salami with parmesan cheese. Delicious~ - Bananas Foster/Tableside - Warm, buttery bananas flamed with rum over vanilla ice cream. Mmmmm - Cherries Jubilee: brandied cherries, with butter, brown sugar, and a wonderful presentation tableside: the server flames a spiral-cut orange peel with brandy...releasing all the volatile oils into the sauce. The cherries are then served with vanilla icecream, and a rich pound-cake. Seriously wonderful, and fun to watch. The table ordered 3 excellent bottles of wine (I recommend red zinfandel or Pinot with most of the dishes...one was a cabernet that did not go well with some of the delicate flavors), and I had 2 cosmos - the cosmos were fantastic...sweetly/tart, no funny hot-pink food coloring, just a GOOD solid, cocktail. We'll most certainly be back. Almost everyone had enough leftovers for another full meal. The only thing that will make Moro even more awesome is when they go smoke-free in early May. Overall our bill came to $540 ($650 with tip...the wine drinkers were responsible for 1/3 of the bill...) but it was an extremely enjoyable 3 hours of bacchenalian bliss. read more
