I visited this restaurant this evening with my BFF to celebrate her work promotion. I used to live in this area and have frequented this restaurant for years. I love the old school vibes, Frank Sinatra music playing, the elegant white table cloths and the wait staff in tuxedos. It feels like a restaurant out of the Sopranos. Our waiter was great! He informed us of the specials and we both ordered the eggplant parmigiana, which came with a salad, soup (we both had the clam chowder), fresh bread and butter. Our entrees also came with a side of potatoes and green beans. This is a lot of food! We also ordered drinks; a limoncello martini for her, one for me, and I also had a Long Island Iced tea. The martinis were delicious, but the tea was terrible. When the waiter brought out the bowl of fruit and walnuts at the end of our meal along with the check, I almost fell out of my chair!! The prices have drastically increased! I get that we're dealing with inflation, but come on!! $40 for each eggplant parm entree and $54 for 3 drinks!!! Seriously?! We also were not provided with an itemized invoice and had to request one which took forever. The prices on their website are also much cheaper than their current menus. Very deceiving. Nice portion size of tender veal parm in a delicious sauce served with fresh green beans and potato. Table side fresh salad so tasty and very flavorful minestrone soup served with basket of warm Italian bread. Daniel our server was very pleasant and attentive, as was his helper. The owner stopped by each table to welcome guests. Her friendly attitude is expressed by all staff members, making it a very homey experience with e collet food and service. I also noticed the convenient takeout parking spots I. Front of Moro's do that you don't have to get out of your car to pick up order. The atmosphere so festive and cheery. Well worth the price of an enjoyable and memorable evening. read more

We use to LOVE Moro's, staff was great about my Gluten allergy and would accommodate my simple request. Chicken Piccata, or chicken Marcella was the go to. Now they don't even offer those items on the menu. You can get them made with Veal but not chicken. Don't get that. Please put chicken back on the menu. The cod I ended up with, no it doesn't taste like chicken had to much pepper that made it to spicy to eat. read more

What's not to love about this family run, beloved eatery with it's old school supper club feel and meals that taste like Sunday at Nona's served up like a swanky downtown steakhouse? Moro's means celebrations for my family. Every major anything gets celebrated here. Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, New Years Eve, and the occasional random Thursday are all celebrated with Veal Columbo, or Beef Tenderloins with zip sauce, or Shrimp Scampi. Each meal is presented in courses with a soup (Swiss onion is my favorite) and a tangy salad (mixed fresh, table side). Some entrees and desserts are also prepared table side to add a bit of a show element to your evening. Also, no meal at Moro's is complete without a bowl of fruit and walnuts to cap off a perfect experience. They don't take reservations, and used to be busy just about all the time, but since coming back from pandemic shut downs, it hasn't been as hard to get a table, though it has been starting to pick back up recently. read more

We have had many wonderful special occasion dinners at Moro's. It's been a few years since we were there last. Tonight was disappointing. We went to dinner with another couple for our anniversary. My husband and I ordered the Shrimp Scampi special. Though it's not on the menu, it used to be about $40. When we got our bill the Shrimp Scampi was $71 per person! And it was bland! (As was the clam chowder). The couple we were with wanted to buy us dessert. We all decided to order the Cherries Flambé. Didn't think to ask the price because never in our wildest dream did we think it would be $100!!! Never did the server ever give us a clue. This will be our very last visit to Moro's. read more

We love dining at Moro's in Allen Park. Our favorite is the dessert- but every detail that comes along with our dining experience at Moro's Restaurant is beautifully done. Each meal is served with your choice of a delicious homemade soup and table side tossed salad. The steak is always cooked to perfection and melt-in-your-mouth delicate. We would get the chateaubriand, but unfortunately C19 killed that staple. We now opt for the filet mignon, served with a delicious "au jus" we consider zip sauce. It's the perfect compliment for a great cut. Now comes the flambé desserts. You must try at least one of the three flavors offered. The bananas foster is always a solid choice, and always made with love. The presentation is over the top! The dining area at Moro's is quaint. No reservations- expect to well-worth-the-wait if you come on a weekend. The servers are friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to please! read more

My first thought when I walked in was that this looked like the sort of place that Gordon Ramsay would have visited to make over and turn into a modern restaurant. The decor here looks like it must have when Moro's was founded in 1980. But, while the dim lighting falls on white tablecloths and wallpaper, everything here is clean and well-maintained. The decision to look like 1980 wasn't arrived at for financial reasons, but for the sake of an appreciation for old school Italian dining. In the best old school traditions, the waiter was dressed in a tuxedo (at lunchtime!), the Caesar salad was assembled at table-side by the waiter. This resulted in the lettuce being overdressed for my liking, but the dressing itself was robust and Parmigiano-Reggiano forward. Unlike the old school fancy restaurant model where fancy = bad service (I'm looking at you, "The Whitney"), the service here was superb. The diet Coke had too much ice in it - the kind where 5 sips drains it - but the waiter always was there to refill it before it was empty. I hate to pull out the "my dad was born in Italy" card, but I feel like I have to do that when I come to a place like this. Things really do compare favorably with what papa brought with him from the old country. I believe that minestrone soup needs to be robust, and this one wasn't. It's more of a chunky tomato soup. But, the flavor was deep, making it clear that this had been simmering for hours, deepening the intensity of the tomato. When you get your menu, you'll see a mention of their veal dishes on the cover, before you've even gotten to the menu itself. That kind of confidence means they must have good veal dishes, right? I took the waiter's recommendation and got the breaded veal with mozzarella (Parmesan cheese is the other option). I have to say, they're right to be this confident: the veal is tender and flavorful. It doesn't quite explode with flavor, but it grows on you. If the amount of food here wasn't so massive, I would happily have finished the whole thing. The potatoes and beans framing the breaded veal, on the other hand, where merely decent. I hate it when the sides steal the spotlight from the main course. No chance of that here. After we were done, the waiter wrapped the leftovers for us. I was wondering how well a carry-out container would fair jammed into my department's fridge, but I needn't have worried: they wrap the carry-out in plastic wrap, which also keeps the flavors in. Finally, we were surprised when bowls of fruit and nuts were brought out. This is part of the package, it seems I was too full after everything, but this is a nice touch. I took an apple with me for later. My only gripe was the price. What you see depicted set me back $25 (before tip). The veal was listed at $13, so you can see how things add up. This was a bit jarring for lunch, but the overall experience was so good that I'm sure I'll be back here again. Next time, I will bring more of an appetite! read more

While visiting Detroit we went to Moro's for dinner on Saturday 9/28. We went a bit early as we had two small children with us. The owner and wait staff could not have been nicer. Super friendly and accommodating. Exceptional service from Marco. Cool music. Authentic. Old school in the best way. Salad and dessert made table side. Good wine list. OUTSTANDING food. AMAZING! Server was great! The young man refilling waters, and offering assistance to the server was on top of it. Fresh warm bread, excellent salad (tossed in front of you), excellent soup. We ordered two of the specials (eggplant parmigiana, and salmon). Simple, but flavorful, and perfect. We'd also ordered a pesto spaghetti to taste, and bring home leftovers. We had so many leftovers. After dinner, and before dessert, a fruit and nut bowl was brought to the table. I had a wonderful espresso, and my daughter chose a tiramisu. Every course was a wonderful experience. My colleague and I went to an early dinner at Moro's on a Wednesday evening. The weather outside was a bit inclement, thus there was only one other table occupied for dinner. The ambiance is right out of the 1960's Sinatra-era. The servers are tuxedoed, white line table cloths, etc. Our server was great, giving us his full attention. The menu offered a good variety, however, several items were no longer available for the evening. However, the waiter was quick to rattle-off about a dozen special dishes for the evening, not on the menu. We began the dinner with a table-prepared salad and fresh bread. This was followed by the soup of the evening, New York-style chowder. My main course of eggplant parmesan was excellent, some of the best I've had. We were stuffed, so we did not have dessert. The waiter brought out a nice bowl of fresh whole-fruit and nuts for our pleasure. Overall it was a wonderful experience at this family-owned and operated restaurant. Be prepared for the prices, though....almost $50 for the eggplant. read more

I went for my birthday last year. I really did enjoy the ambiance. To step into this quaint, hidden in plain sight place was refreshing. Service was great, very attentive and calm. Not like the fast talkin' & fast walkin' servers you get in many places. The service matches the ambiance. The food was just okay. I don't remember what I had, but it lacked flavor I expected. I remember being disappointed that chicken Marsala wasn't part of the menu. I had looked it up before hand, so I knew going in, but I was still disappointed. I don't know. I want to go back for a relaxing for something light, or a dessert and a drink. It's such a cute, quiet place to escape to in the middle of the day or after work. read more

A group of friends and I had the pleasure of dining at Moro's recently and I will say we all walked away impressed. The service was fantastic with Marco being entertaining and helpful. Our drinks were never empty and the food came out spaced perfectly. I had veal which was very tender and had a delicious marinara sauce on it. Also got to try a friend's lamb chops and they were absolutely heavenly. We also had dessert and you can't miss with any of these. The table side bananas foster was incredible. The owner even thanked us on the way out and really enjoyed our presence there which was nice to hear. The only warning I will give to anyone is that it is quite pricey. Make sure to ask prices before ordering if you are trying to get by as cheap as possible. I'm not knocking down the score on that because that is user error if you overspend, but beware the tab can rack up! read more

Diner BEWARE! Food is subpar and small portions! The drinks are crazy expensive - $7 for a coke and you get no refills. Our family is not cheap by any means but this was a horrible experience - there are no prices anywhere for desserts, bar drinks ($17 for an amaretto sour), or even their specials! We received the bill and were astonished by the total. This is the first time we've been here in a few years and all past experiences were amazing - unfortunately we won't be back and do not recommend this restaurant. read more

We went in at about 3 PM. A QR code in their lobby takes you to a menu. Their website lists another menu. Both menus advertised lunch prices before 4 pm. We waited several minutes for their staff to put us at a table even though only two tables in the place were occupied and all tables had linens and silverware at them. Ten minutes later, another couple came in and were told to "sit anywhere." Huh? The place was dark, but not dark enough to hide some peeling wall paper. We concluded that the floors probably weren't dirty though, based on someone running a vacuum cleaner about 15 feet behind me for 5 minutes. I always thought restaurants cleaned before or after hours, but I'm no restauranteur. The waiter eventually came by and gave us dinner menus. We asked for lunch portions but were told "he's not doing that anymore." We were hungry so we stuck around. My plate of spaghetti (no salad) came out quickly and was good. Her Moro Salad was brought out and tossed table-side about 5 minutes after my spaghetti, which had started to go cold; her salad was good too. No complaints about the food, other than the portions being less than generous for the prices. To sum up, the service was pleasant and fair, but certainly not worth the disproportionately high prices charged. We wound up having to pay $48 (plus tip), $14 more than what was posted on their website... for a plate of spaghetti and a dinner salad plus one soft drink. And don't ask for lunch prices anymore, I presume; he's not doing that any more. It might be advisable for them to save up the extra money, call an IT guy, and fix the menus behind the QR code and website so that they are not misleading. More cynical people might even refer to it as a bait-and-switch, especially when you know about the inconsistency. Oh, yes, I noticed later that the two menus (QR and on-line) were inconsistent with each other and with the printed menu. No, we are not going back. read more

Wow. What a disappointment Moro's has turned into. Ever since the pandemic started, any attempts at ordering any sort of carryout from this location has been a nightmare. My parents are both 70 years old, and my mother is immunocompromised. Needless to say, they aren't too keen on going out to eat during this time, but Moro's has been our go-to for most family birthdays and important events. We tried ordering carry out dinner for my immediate family (4 entrees, 1 appetizer) for my birthday in July, 2021, but were told they were unfortunately short-staffed and only serving dine-in. No problem. We tried placing a similar order for carryout a few months later in September, 2021, for my sister's birthday. As soon as my mother started relaying the order to the operator, she could hear the chef in the background yelling "NO. NO. NO." as he overheard the waitress repeating back each entree to my mother. They ended up refusing our order (again, 4 entrees, 1 appetizer). Tensions seem to be rising in the kitchen. Now, it's December, 2021, and my mother tried order some soup for carryout to use for part of our Christmas dinner we're planning for our immediate family (again, 4 people. and it's just soup). They promptly replied saying they're "Short staffed. No carryout.", and hung up on her. If you can't handle telling someone that you can't fulfill a carry out soup order without hanging up on them, it's probably time you got out of the restaurant business. This pandemic has hit everyone hard, but Moro's is the only place myself and my family have frequented for decades+ that has responded with a such rude, unnecessary attitude. It angers me to even write this, as you can see from my first review, I considered Moro's my favorite restaurant. I remember back in July (prior to my birthday), lecturing my parents about how we needed to still order from Moro's to help support in any small way we can, so we can hopefully keep a family tradition going after the pandemic. My husband and I have been going to Moro's for 30 years. One of our favorites. We stopped in on Saturday and we were both very surprised at the difference in food. The minestrone soup recipe had definitely changed. I actually thought it needed salt. I have never had that issue in the past. I ordered pasta bolognese. The table side salad was very different, smaller and pretty sad looking. My pasta was very small, actually seemed like a side of pasta. My husband loves the Moro's salad. There was not sliced beef, only one shrimp and just a lot of feta. Sizes were half what they used to be. We are very sad to see that prices have gone crazy and quality is suffering. I think restaurants are pricing themselves out of business. I don't think we will be going back. read more

Have been coming here for many, many years. We normally love this place with the service and food being excellent. This last trip the food and service was still very good but we were disappointed that we were charged $12 per side of spaghetti ($24 for the two of us) when we substituted for the potatoes that automatically came with our meals. I could understand a small upcharge but $12 for a small plate of spaghetti seems excessive. Oh and the server never mentioned the cost of switching to the spaghetti. Moral of the story is don't substitute it will cost you! Moro's you might want to look at this policy and change it!!!! read more

My husband and I have been dining here for over forty years. Recently we brought our sister and brother-in-law here to celebrate our anniversary. My husband and I are from out of town and decided to try dinner here after reading all the wonderful reviews. It is an intimate restaurant with limited seating. We arrived at 5:00 and we're immediately seated. As soon as we were seated we received basket of bread with butter and water. Our server, Marco, appeared shortly after asking if we would like cocktails. He was extremely friendly, entertaining, and attentive. I ordered a gin martini which arrived in a very generous size martini glass. My husband ordered a Bourbon neat and his serving size was much smaller.We started with the flaming feta cheese dish ,Saganki, which was flamed tableside giving a bit of a show. It was very good on the bread provided to us. All of the entrees come with salad, soup, and a side of the day's vegetables. The salad was also tossed and dressed tableside by Marco and served on chilled salad plates which I thought was a nice touch. The soup option offered three choices of chowder, onion soup or minestrone. My husband had the onion and said it was very good. I had the minestrone a soup and it was delicious. For entrees my husband chose the eggplant parmesan which he said was very tasty. I ordered the Triestins, which was thin slices of a veal and marinated artichokes in a light lemon sauce. It was very delicious. After dinner ,the restaurant provides a bowl with walnuts and fruit for a light finish. I ordered a glass of limoncello which was perfectly chilled and really good. For dessert we ordered the bread pudding with a Jack Daniels sauce and this was my only disappointment as it was a small amount of bread pudding around a scoop of ice cream. It was very good but I would have preferred just the bread pudding. I ended my meal with a cup of espresso. Overall I felt that the prices were very fair considering all of the food that was received during dinner that would be considered a la carte anywhere else. I do recommend coming to the restaurant hungry and not in a rush as our meal took 2 hours to complete but I felt was paced accordingly. Street parking was a little difficult but definitely worth the trouble to eat at this wonderful establishment. read more

Best dining experience I have ever had!! The Moro's experience is definitely a force to be reckoned with. The front line definitely knew what they were doing. It seems they want you to be blasted back to the past when you walk into this restaurant. Sure its seen better days, but the service has kept on keeping on ever since. Its more of how the three course meal is served and suppose to be served properly. The boys in the penguin suit is indicative of this long forgotten art of dining. If you're expecting a diner type experience, then you've come to the wrong place my friend. This is where you come through, sit down and share a real meal with your family. This place is the very definition of breaking bread. Best Italian I ever had? Nope, not really,,, it's not bad either... It actually leans over to the good side way over. I would eat their food again and again. Yes it's that good. But it's not overwhelmingly good. 4 stars is well deserving due to their awesome front line personell and service. This amazing little spot is a must visit when coming to Allen Park. The staff are all friendly and work together like a well oiled machine. Moro's is a blast from the past. If they had a counter up front selling cigars and cigarettes it would be just like the places i remember going as a kid in Detroit with my parents. That said, I highly recommend trying Moro's. The food is really good (just shy of great IMO) .... and really big. I had cannelloni which I almost couldn't finish. My wife had veal. They were both good, not the best, but really good. They won't win an award for subtle preparation or presentation. They both were covered in a cheese that was melted so hot that it was indistinguishable from the red "sauce". On Sunday, they brought out some complimentary fried zucchini slices that were SPECTACULAR. Light, perfectly crisp. The old school charm is this: - superb service by tuxedo wearing waiters - lots of table side prep including the generic salad that comes with most dinners. Some entrees and deserts were also prepared table-side. - shrimp cocktail app. - classic preparations galore (8 different(?) veal dishes) Everyone working at Moro's seemed happy to be there and they were good at what they did. Attentive and understated service. They don't take reservations and the wait on Saturday was over an hour when we called, so we went on Sunday. Dinner for two (without alcohol or desert) was about $40 which included soup, salad and entree (and zucchini). They had at least 4 soups. They bring out a plate of fruit and walnuts after dinner.
