Definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area! The horchata and tamarin margs are amazing. They serve 4 different salsas (red, green, and two other spicier options) when youre sat at the table and we always get the queso to pair with them. Some of our favorite meals are the birria, tropical pork, and gordita/sope. They have a unique menu in comparison to other Mexican options in the area and the flavor of the meals are suburb. Stopped in this past Friday night with a party of six (2 kids) and I was pleasantly surprised. I have been avoiding eating here because multiple people who I trust with food reviews were giving me mixed reviews. The restaurant is not the cleanest and I really feel like a face lift or a total location change would help the cause. However, the food was extremely good and portions were spot on; I had my standard three chorizo street tacos and rice along with more chips and salsa than I should have eaten! I am a huge fan of restaurants which bring out the multi-flavored salsa trays - three different blends here to try and two of the three were highly addictive! Came from Las Vegas to visit family and they suggested we come try this place. Walked and and the decor was extremely bright and inviting. The hostess was nice and sat us right away. They came over with chips and a few different salsas. Good way to start. We ordered the white cheese sauce that was to die for and shrimp ceviche (yum). Our food order came pretty quick and everyone loved their dinners. It was so delicious. Will definitely be back the next time we are in town. Yummy! read more

The inside is decorated with many colors... I have to bring my daughter her. Wood carvings on the backs of chairs brings a new authenticity to Mexican dining. This is owned by the same folks who own Taqueria Moroleon on 9th st. This place is so bright and colorful inside! They did an outstanding job decorating this restaurant. It's spacious and the murals are really beautiful. Their menu is more expansive than the 9th st menu with many seafood offerings. Same great food and of course four salsas on the table! It's got all the flavor of the dishes from the 9th street location, with a much larger and festive looking decor. I was really impressed with what they have done with the place. Our server was friendly and attentive. I had the Tilapia with mango salsa, and every bite was full of delectable fruity flavor. If I had any issue at all, it would be the sign on the door telling people to leave their negativity at the door, that they are a new place, and that people shouldn't complain.(I'm paraphrasing). It is a customers right to complain if the service or food is poor, and being newly opened is no excuse. If you aren't ready to deliver fantastic food and service, don't open yet. That said, TM-Tropical did in fact deliver excellence on our first trip, and I intend to return in the future. read more

Food poisoning. The first two times I ate here were great experiences; four salsas, huge burritos, friendly service. The last time I got so sick that I thought I was going to need to go to the ER. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but 4 days later, two friends of mine ate there and had the exact same symptoms, time of onset, and duration of illness. That is simply no coincidence, which is what led me to Yelp, where I was not surprised to learn that other people have recently gotten sick also. It seems as if this has been going on for awhile, happening at least as far back as November. Someone needs to look into this further. read more

I got food poisoning. I went here with a friend about a week and a half ago to check it out since it's pretty new. I ordered enchiladas al pastor. Waited almost an hour for our food, and when it arrived, I was given a plate of tamales. I told the waitress and she took it back to have my correct order made. It came out in about 10 minutes... the enchiladas were soggy and rather gross. The beans have processed cheese sprinkled on top and the rice was somewhat bland. The real fun started the next day when I was extremely sick with food poisoning. I suspect that maybe they were in too much of a rush to bring the correct order and didn't properly cook the food. However, I absolutely will not be back. I have never gotten so sick from eating out at a restaurant and don't care to risk it again. read more

We barely finished Easton g when a waitress asked if we were finished and swept everything away even the chips and salsa we were eating on (only decent part of the meal). They offer so many more dishes than other Mexican places. We enjoyed the variety from the four types of salsa on the table to a variety of seafood dishes. Looks fresh and new from the outside and doesn't disappoint when you walk in. Lively atmosphere, traditional Mexican musica and bright colors much like you'd find the quaint cities of Guadalajara. The hostess greeted us promptly and seated us immediately, only 3 other tables in the place. We immediately got a serving of fresh (seem to be homemade but at the very least fried in house) chips and a salsa tray with 4 bottles. 1: traditional salsa tomato base, it was a 5 on flavor and 2 on spicy (1-10 scale) seemed freshish but lacked the bright lively flavor of cilantro, onion and not even a hint of any pepper (jalapeño, Serrano...literally anything would have been good). 2: salsa verde, tomatillo base very slight kick 7 on flavor 3 on spicy...the best of the 3 salsa. Finally 2 jars of a thickish pinkish salsa...I can only assume some sort of habanero base...honestly never experienced it and not sure. With that said 7 on flavor, 5 on spicy. Margaritas; we ordered 3, 2 strawberry, 1 frozen, one rocks and one traditional with Herradura. I did not try the strawberry because that's not my style but the traditional was pretty good. Keeping in mind I have had some of the best margaritas in Tlaquepaque, these were drinkable and by most standards above average. I was a little put off that they were $8 a piece for the lack of tequila. The main course: we ordered the enchiladas banderas, 4 tacos, 3 traditional: shrimp, carnitas, al pastor and 1 "gringo" chicken supreme. I will speak specifically to what I had, however the shrimp and chicken were mediocre from what I was told. The carnitas and the al pastor were served traditional on a corn tortilla with cilantro, onions, meat and lime garnish. The tortillas seemed as fresh as most anywhere else, and that's where the mediocre stops and it goes down hill...the cilantro was wet and not fresh, onions were fine, BOTH meats were flavorless and dry :( HUGE disappointment as these two are staple Mexican style meats. I also ordered the carne asada (skirt steak) plate. This was served topped with onions and served with a side of refried beans, sour cream (not crema), pico, lettuce, guacamole and Cebollitas Asadas (spring onion) which was a nice authentic touch. The steak was poorly over cooked and tough, no seasoning...blah! The pico was okay, again I feel as though they are processing the cilantro wrong and no salt. Guacamole was okay, but to be honest at this point I was just disappointed so it all tasted blah. The enchiladas "weren't bad" again to be honest my wife wouldn't complain even if she wasn't happen. Now for the service: the waitress was very nice and accommodating, we did have a few instances where we were in need and she was visibly on her phone which is a bit frustrating. She wasn't really versed on the menu or margaritas but tried very hard. A bit disconcerting that half the order came out incorrect and she said the POS was in Spanish...if you are going to hire gringas you should have the POS in English (in my opinion) this is also assuming that information was correct. All in all, the food and service were mediocre to okay, atmosphere was nice. Will try it again at some point when I return to IL but won't be my first choice. read more

Was looking for somewhere to eat on the way through Springfield on a long drive. This place from the food to the decor is a gem! The hot chips and four distinct salsas were handmade and very good. We all had different dishes and agreed the chili rellenos was the best we ever had, and the carnitas was melt in your mouth tasty. Only open for 2 months (at least the Wabash location) they had excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere. read more

Party of five on a Sunday evening. Chips were warm, but too greasy. The four salsas that accompany are a nice idea, but none were very appealing. I asked if the Margaritas were good, and the friendly waitress said yes, special recipe. I ordered the jumbo, our friend a regular. The price is double on the jumbo, but you only receive about a half more of a regular. So, order 2 regular--if you like Sprite and sour mix. The Mexican food that four of us ordered was fine. Not exceptional, but typical and fast. Our friend had ordered one of the Caribbean specialties, some type of seafood soup. When our food was served, the waitress told him it would be a few minutes longer than ours, that it was prepared fresh. She told him the same about 15 minutes later. It ultimately was served after the rest of us had finished our meals. He took it home, said that it was pretty good, but we won't be back with that kind of service and lousy Margaritas. So, stick to Mex and beer, decent place. read more
