I have been here a few times and went just last night with a friend and although it is not the best…read moreall you can eat buffet I have been to, it is not the worst either, my only problems with this are that the rice always seems to be hard unlike the one near the market in town where it is always soft and the second problem is the atmosphere when we walked in the waiter showed us to our table and just stood there and were were not sure if he was waiting for us to place a drink order or show us to the food as I have been to buffets where both has happend but he just stood there and made us feel really awkward, and the final problem is that the toilets need to be bigger as there is only 1 female toilet and 1 male toilet which is fine for when its quite but if its busy you may be waiting a while to use it. That aside the good points are that they have a good selection of food including duck as far as I know on everyday whereas some buffets only have it on a certain day, there is also a fish tank which is nice and relaxing to watch the fish even though 1 fish looks a bit big for the tank, 1 of the best things about this place though isn't the food it is the fact that they don't charge if you leave anything on your plate where as a lot of places will charge you £5 or £6 which isn't good if you want to try something for the 1st time and decide you don't like it. The furniture has character to it instead of being some cheap stuff to save on money which is always nice in my opinion as it makes the place stand out, the staff are friendly and say hello as you walk in and goodbye as you leave even if they haven't served you at all while you have been there. As with any all you can eat I work on the theory that you want at least 1 plate full of food for every £5 you spend on the meal to make it worth while and believe me when me and my dad go to 1 of these we make sure we get our moneys worth ; )

If you eat between 11-4 during the week you can have your favourites from the chinese buffet for this price (or for (£10.00 at on-peak times). The resturant is unlike other buffets I have visited which often feel more like a primary school dinner situation full of rowdy custom. Palace Chine is tucked in the corner of the Kirkstall entertainment complex and is often shadowed by the large Frankie and Bennies, Nando's and McDonalds. Nevertheless if you know where it is you will always pick Palace Chine first for some cheap and quick chinese cuisine! The venue itself is not particular plush however is uses contemporary modern design in places, traditional chinese nik-naks and basic furnishing to create it's own little niche! The food can be a little greasy however the more tradition black bean sauces and rices are just divine, especially when you consider the price

As a chinese takeaway, it is not bad. I didn't want to slap on the stars for this place, simply because it is not where I would generally go for my chinese, as my first choice in the area. It is my friends favourite though, and they swear by it. I suppose, my only drawback is that I am an enormous fan of crispy chilli beef, and Peter C's just didn't cut the mustard... To do the place justice, try their duck and green peppers in black bean sauce. It's a good'un.

I have been to a few Mongolian places and normally really like them. This one is ok but I had a…read morecouple of issues with it. The night we were there it was really quiet so they weren't keeping the food topped up. We had to keep asking for the things that we wanted because there were only scraps left in the bottom. It also made me wonder how long the food had been there. Saying that the food was nice when it was cooked and we did enjoy it. The other thing that put me off was when I went to pay at the back of the restaurant it smelled really bad - was a heavy oil/fat smell - like they had been using the same oil and re-heating it again and again. While I had enjoyed the food when eating it I felt quite sick after paying because of this smell. Maybe we were just there on a bad day but no desire to go back.

This was my 3rd visit. Took some friends and was bitterly…read moredisappointed. The price now being charged is outrageous (£17) and they have introduced tiny little plates, mean and ridiculous. Some of the staff seemed depressed and not too bothered. Even more embarassed when my friend insisted on paying for the six of us, really overpriced stir fry. Only £1.50 for kids meals and £3.50 for adult size buffet box meals. Just add an extra 50p and you can mix another item in your meal box. Best go for the Chef's mix Buffet Box for £4.50 as you won't be disappointed with the variety they cram into a box. It's just amazing & bursting out with quantity and exciting tastes. Their home made curry tastes out of this world and their home made sweet and sour is full of fruity flavour and just gorgeous! The mushroom egg omelette is beautiful and the Garlic salt & pepper Mushrooms and chicken was Mmmmm! The chips are nice too. If you don't fancy the box meals you can go for the Chinese main menu meal dishes in the foil trays. You just have to go down and try it yourself or better still they now deliver and charge just a pound for delivery service. The taste is just hard to be beaten by any chinese food place in Castleford. And I should know cuz I have tried all of the Chinese restaurants and takeaways locally including those at Xscape. Just had the Crispy aromatic duck from them and swaped the normal duck Hoi Sin sauce for their home made BBQ sauce which made it the best tasting Crispy aromatic duck I have ever had from a Chinese. I have also tried a recomended Mixed meats Japanese Udon noodle dish which was overflowing from the rim of the container that the lid wasn't even on properly as the food was piled so high and full. I can always count on getting a tasty and satisfying meal from this place. They now even have beef & chicken burger meals on the menu. My son is addicted to them as they really fill him up the cheese burger, chips and can of pop at extremely reasonable prices too.Talking of pop they do the largest selection of pop I have ever seen from any Chinese place. Shandy, Tango Apple, Tango Orange, Tango Cherry, Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, Rubicon Mango, Vimto, Tizer, Dr Pepper, 7Up, Irn Bru, Dandelion Burdock, Red Bull, Emerge, bottled water & even zero percect alchol cans of beer! Once you have experienced the food here you won't want to go anywhere else believe me.

In short, it was a perfectly acceptable caffeine hit but nothing spectacular. The food fared a little better, and the pizza I had was tasty, generous and well priced, although my friend's burger warranted less glowing praise. Mezmez feels like it's trying hard to be a proper Italian establishment, but it commits the common crime of feeling like it has to offer other dishes too, and it's the inferior quality of these that lets the whole side down. That, and the coffee. A better choice than many of the cafes and takeaways in the area, but it will have to do better to compete with the mighty Box up the road.

Challenge Sandwiches has a pretty pink and white shop front that would befit a charming little cupcake shop making it stand out from the others with their stereotypical take away exterior. And I must say I do find the name rather amusing. They sell baguettes, wraps and paninis and also sell a range of sundries, such as samosas and bhaji. I admit to only having had a bite of one of their sandwiches, which at the time tasted amazing but this was at stupid o' clock in the morning with a rumbling tummy after a boozy night so I suspect most anything, especially containing melted cheese, would have tasted pretty good. The main thing that stood out for me was the customer service. There were a bunch of hyperactive drunken waxed-chested low cut t-shirted lads whooping and gallivanting around the limited space inside Challenge Sandwiches and generally exhibiting that notorious student lack of awareness of anything other than their own hilarity. The blokes behind the counter took it very much in their stride and watched bemused. They then proceeded to give me a free packet of crisps - score!

I think the guy knows my regular order... Donner Kebab, garlic sauce, no salad, just tomatoes…read more.. Thanks Challenger! As you can tell from that... I'm a regular. I haven't really gotten any of their other sandwiches, but the Donner is so good that I've just been sticking to what I know... maybe I'll be adventurous one day. What makes it so good is that they pack it with meat... PACK. I like meat is all. Seriously though... this place WOULD definitely get 4 stars, but just recently I went around Europe for a while and France and parts of Germany sell their Donner Kebabs on Panini-like bread instead of the toasted wrap they put it in here... Oh MY GOOD GOD... like these kebabs couldn't get any better... they totally did. I still go to Challenger as my choice in Leeds, especially since it's so close to my place, but after having a legit Kebab in some bread else where in Europe... I can't look at any other kebab the same way... Sorry Challenger.
