Sound the alarms, we've got a new local business alert! Maw's Country Kitchen is located in a tiny strip mall on Blanding Blvd., across from Vystar Credit Union. They're serving up down-home country breakfast and brunch eats, all made from scratch. It's a cozy establishment (7 tables, 2 outdoor tables, and 3 counter seats), yet not at all cramped. Although they've been open for less than a year, i could immediately tell that Maw's has earned its share of regulars, with customers and staff addressing one another by first name. The character of the restaurant is as the name suggests...the sights, the sounds, the aromatic fragrances of southern delights such as fried chicken and smothered pork chops wafting from the kitchen...all reminiscent of a family meal at Grandma's house. Noms: Going back and forth between the breakfast and lunch menus, I decided to go with the open-face meatloaf sandwich meal, with mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese as my sides. The tender meatloaf was dressed in a rich, brown gravy and was absolutely divine. The red-skinned mashed potatoes and luscious baked mac-n-cheese were the perfect accompaniments to the main course. I couldn't help but notice the dessert case calling to me from across the room, so I snuck over and took a couple of pics before i ordered a generous slice of carrot cake to take home and devour while marathoning "The Queens Gambit." How was it? To sum it up...addicting and i want more. The carrot cake was equally fabulous. We looked at menu and exactly what we were wanting. We get there and it's more like maybe a curry food. Not sure what you would call there food but it was NOT what the menu had on it. I have been fortunate enough to have Dominican breakfast in the past. In all honesty, this place by far did everything with perfection. I honestly loved every bite of this. It seems simple but the flavor was so delicious! Definitely very filling if you can manage to finish your plate. Very generous portion for sure for the price. We did have to box over half up between two plates. This meal really can hold you over all day. The signature drink, Morir Sonando means "to die dreaming" and is a signature Dominican drink. I have seen it on food shows in the past and has been a must try for a while. It is basically orange juice/ milk/ cane sugar sprinkled with cinnamon over the top. Think liquid creamsicle for us American pallets. Served ice cold. It really is heaven in a glass. While I have never had it before today, this was perfection. The staff is also very friendly and that makes it even better. I look forward to visiting again and trying more because the menu looks delicious. read more

Maw's is a quaint restaurant with a very friendly staff. Lisa, the owner, does alot of her own home cookin' and baking. D-D is a great line cook and everything on the menu is delicious. Make it a mission to order her chicken and dumplin's or meatloaf. We eat there at least 3 times a week. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are hearty. They have big hearts there too. Lisa also owns "A Tire Place" down the street from there. Quality work, fair prices and a great staff. They do more than just tires too. read more

So we walked into this place hungry and ready to enjoy some Dominican food, but unfortunately it did not go as planned. Firstly, we entered and no one was visible, no one there to greet us. There was one customer sitting waiting for his take out. We sat down few mins later A lady came out the back, handed the other customer his order, but didn't acknowledge us. She headed back to the counter/kitchen. At this point we just got up and left. Short staffed or not, a simple "Hello I will be right with you" would have been great. I am big on customer service and this is usually one of the determining factors of me returning to an establishment. I will never know if the food is woeth it because I will more than likely walk into this place again. read more

This was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. I got the steak with onions and yellow rice and oh my goodness it was so delicious I thought about the leftovers all night and how excited i was to eat them again today. The empanadas where the best Ive ever had. I was worried I would be disappointed because 3.50 for one was more than id normally spend but it was delicious. They were large and soo crispy!! I 100/10 can recommended this restaurant to anyone. They still have a full breakfast menu of the american breakfast food as well if dominican food isn't your thing.
