As soon as I started the engine, the car was shaking and smoke was coming from the exhaust. The staff drained and refilled the oil, but the problem did not improve. Assistant Manager Ana told me to drive the vehicle and that the smoke would go away. I was not comfortable doing so given the condition of the car. Manager Efrain never came outside to speak with me about the situation despite my concerns. The vehicle ultimately had to be towed to the dealership for diagnosis and repairs. I have since filed a claim with Valvoline and am awaiting resolution. This experience was frustrating and left me without a reliable vehicle.

He asked if I could leave the car for the next day and he'll get on it first thing in the morning . I made the mistake of trying to service the A/C on my Honda Odyssey myself on a Saturday before we were supposed to leave on a family road trip. Needless to say, I picked just about the worst possible time to experiment with it. I ended up overfilling the A/C system, which caused the compressor's protection/shutoff system to kick in. The A/C wasn't working properly, and with a hot weekend and a family road trip coming up, I was desperate to find someone who could help. Finding a mechanic on a Saturday afternoon who was willing to take a look at an A/C problem was not easy. I called around, and fortunately, I reached Chad. He told me he could take a look at it, even though he was getting ready to close the shop within the hour. I brought the van down, and one of the first things that impressed me was how quickly he figured out what was going on. Before even hooking up diagnostic equipment or instruments, Chad knew something was wrong with the A/C system. He could actually smell the refrigerant and immediately suspected that the system had been overcharged. He then took the time to explain exactly what I had done and what had happened to the system. And this is something I really appreciated--he explained it in a way that made sense and, more importantly, he didn't make me feel like an idiot for trying to do it myself. We've all made those "I probably shouldn't have done that" mistakes with our vehicles, and Chad handled the situation with professionalism and a great attitude. He was able to properly evacuate the system and recharge it to the correct level, getting the A/C working perfectly again. It was an extremely hot weekend (friggin El Nino), and having reliable, ice-cold A/C made a huge difference for me and my family on our road trip. Chad didn't just fix a problem--he helped save our trip. What really stood out to me was the combination of knowledge, experience, willingness to help, and customer service. He could have easily said, "Sorry, we're closing," especially on a Saturday afternoon. Instead, he took the time to help me out when I really needed it. That kind of service is becoming harder and harder to find. We really appreciate Chad for taking care of us, and I'll definitely be bringing some of our vehicles to his shop for service in the future. One company I wouldn't recommend going to unless you have lots a money or only own a Mercedes or BMW is "Minsky Mercedes." When I asked why they charge so much more, there answer was quote, "Our name suggests we specialize in BMW and Mercedes, we can work on other makes but it would be the Euro pricing." Unquote. Earlier this year, she'd started leaking transmission fluid and she'd already had a long time issue with keeping the cooling system going... I also knew my brakes were acting up but well...money! So for months and months it was refill the radiator and transmission and cross my fingers! Finally I did some research and decided John's was the place to go! After I dropped her off, I was given a list of other issues she had (a few belts and hoses) which didn't surprise me any given her age! lol! My chassis and internal mechanisms aren't what THEY once were either! Ha! Anyway I told them yes, to go ahead and repair the "must have fixed" issues! She was returned to me in a timely manner and for what I would call an extremely fair price (under $2500) for 3 major repairs, an oil change and even a few new belts and filters! The staff were wonderful with keeping me up to date on how things were going along the way too ...as she's nearly 40 some parts took a minute! Anyway after all these months since I took her in, she's STILL running like a top and even though I check my coolant and transmission fluid regularly, she has never even needed topping off so she's sound as a drum! I had a great experience with Alex at Value Auto Repair. I originally reached out through Yelp, and he was responsive and answered all of my questions. His pricing was significantly better than what the dealership quoted me, but what really stood out wasn't just the price--it was his honesty. I came in with a humming noise that I believed was a bad wheel bearing but was unsure. Alex was upfront from the beginning after making the same diagnosis and even encouraged me to get quotes from other mechanics if it made me feel more comfortable so I could make sure I was getting a fair deal. That kind of confidence and transparency is hard to find. When I arrived, he was able to get my car in within about 30 minutes to diagnose it. While the part was being delivered, I went to lunch, and once I came back, he had the wheel bearing replaced in about 45 minutes. Before I left, he took the time to show me both the old and new wheel bearings, explaining how they worked and letting me hear and feel the difference. I really appreciated him taking the time to educate me instead of just handing me a bill. One thing I noticed while I was waiting was how many customers came in who clearly knew Alex.
