In early November, I contacted this company to repair my gas fireplace--my primary heat…read moresource--before winter. A technician came out, serviced the unit, and identified the issue: a faulty blower. He provided a quote for the replacement, which I approved immediately. That's when the problems began. Ten days later, I called for an update and was told the part hadn't even been ordered. Another ten days later, I was informed the part wasn't available, but they could try retrofitting a similar one. When I asked if there were other options, they said no--so I agreed. On the scheduled day, I took time off work, only to receive a call 30 minutes after they were supposed to arrive saying they could now order the correct part directly from the manufacturer--something they had previously claimed was impossible. To proceed, I had to pay in full immediately. Fast forward three months, and I still didn't have a working fireplace. For weeks, I was repeatedly told, "It should arrive next week." Finally, after expressing my frustration, I got a call at 5:00 PM saying they had located the part, expedited shipping, and could complete the repair the next day. I took another day off work. The technician arrived--but with the wrong part. Instead of tracking down the actual component, they gave him a universal one that didn't fit. They then assured me the correct part would arrive in two days. This time, my wife took the day off work. The technician showed up an hour and a half late (after I had called and reminded them we had rearranged our schedules for this), but they finally made the repair. Other issues worth noting: I was promised a callback from a manager or owner--still waiting on that. Their phone system is a mess. Every time I was placed on hold (which was often), someone else would pick up and begin a different conversation. I would explain who I was and they would say "oh, let me put you back on park." The three coldest months of winter without my primary heat source, multiple days off work, countless phone calls, and constant misinformation (what my generation would call lies). I will never use this company again.

Solid value for our budget. The technician (Freddy) was competent, hard working, organized, and very personable. If this is the caliber of people and face of First Call Jewel, then you will consistently be blessed with business! Thanks much!

Steve's positive attitude, problem‑solving skills, and willingness to work within our budget were extraordinary--qualities rarely found in customer service today. Our home presented several unique structural challenges, yet Steve approached each one with confidence and creativity. His crew was fast, professional, and patient, taking time to answer even our odd or off‑the‑wall questions. When an unexpected structural issue came up, they immediately worked together to find a safe, professional solution. Their teamwork and genuine care made us feel like family, not just customers. After installing our one‑of‑a‑kind air‑conditioning system, the team returned the next day to ensure everything was running at 100%. That level of follow‑through is exceptional on its own--but it didn't stop there. A week later, Steve called with news that truly amazed us. On his own initiative, he contacted the Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart Program on our behalf, and we were approved for an incentive that helped offset the cost of the rewiring and installation. Who does that? It was an incredible act of service and integrity. Steve Winn and his team are, without question, #1 in Idaho. Their professionalism, kindness, and dedication made a difficult project feel manageable and even uplifting. Sincerely, Two grateful old folks from Shelley, Idaho David and Karen Petersen

In mid-December, I was called by Advanced and told that I had one more free furnace service call…read moreand they scheduled it for the afternoon a few days later. They called me late on the scheduled service day and said the service tech had run into a problem so they wouldn't be coming that day but maybe sometime after the first of the year they would be in the area and could do it then. Their serviceman Kade called me on Jan 3 stating he was 10 minutes away and coming for the service call. I told him I didn't know he was coming that day and no one had let me know he was going to come then. I wasn't available that morning. He let his office know and about noon that day, Advanced called and said he would come that afternoon. Late that afternoon Kade came and started checking the furnace. During his checks, he handed me an official looking sheet of paper which showed what damaged parts look like on the heat exchanger unit. Kade told me that when he safety checked that unit if he found any dangerously corroded parts like shown on the paper he handed me, by law, he would have to Red Tag the furnace and shut it down so it couldn't be turned on until the unit was replaced or fixed. He couldn't pull the heat exchanger out to view it because he said he didn't have a ¾ inch PVC elbow with him to put the pipe back together that he would have to cut. It was blocking him from pulling the unit out. He said all he had with him was a PVC straight-thru. I don't know why he couldn't have gone to a store a few blocks away to get the 69-cent part? Maybe it was because it was getting close to quitting time and he had to drive back to Idaho Falls or maybe Rigby? He tried to view the heat exchanger unit by looking thru a small hole he was able to make in the tin triangle cover of the "A" portion of the evaporator unit above it but he still couldn't view anything from there. He gave up and just reassembled what he had removed, closed the furnace and said, "I don't think there was anything wrong with the heat exchanger because I couldn't smell any gas or anything." That is funny since he had earlier said the visual check was for a real safety problem and him saying if he had seen anything dangerously cracked or corroded on the heat exchanger, he would have to Red Tag and shut the furnace down. Why could he get away by just pass it off by saying he couldn't smell anything wrong? He then had me sign some billing forms on an electronic pad, turned on the furnace main switch, checked the upstairs thermostat, and left. Later that evening a lady from Advanced called me and asked how Kade did. I really unloaded on her with the problems I had seen with his service. The next morning, I awoke at 4:45 am and the house temperature was 56 deg F. After doing some investigating and reading my thermostat books, I finally figured out that if the furnace has been shut down for more than 15 minutes, you must go to the furnace mounted remote unit and press a reset button so it can communicate with the upstairs thermostat. The repairman evidently hadn't made sure everything was working before he left. Later that morning Josh, the Advanced Customs Service Manager called me to hear the complaints I had reported late the day before. I expressed them to him and he graciously apologized and said he would use what I told him when he met with the service technicians. I know it wasn't his fault but their slogan is: "My Father Can Do That". I'm sure he can but he has people that "Can't Do That" working for him that he sends out and they don't seem to really care. I'm sure that Advanced tries hard to have a good working team working for them but they have problems there. The result: I have had other run-ins with Advanced Home Services on their scheduling service and them calling at the last minute telling me why they can't keep the appointment, rescheduling and then the no show again, etc. They also charge $99.99 per item for each thing they do other than the few basic operations checks covered on the free service check call. I have tried contacting them by phone for information a couple of times. I got a recording saying: "We are busy helping other customers but your call is very important to us." "Please leave your name and phone number and we will get back to you." After an hour or so of not hearing back from them, I've called again and received the same message. I can't wait forever. I have other things to do too! In 2015 I had Advanced replace a new Air Conditioner, "A" coil unit, heat thermostat, and for 3-yr free A/C & Furnace checks. Since then, I have really regretted my contracted purchase. I later found out I actually paid over double for what I would have had to pay for everything from someone else. It was my fault though for not getting bids first! So, in the future, if I ever need something, they advertise they sell, install, inspect, or repair, I will look elsewhere for that service.

They weren't the lowest cost but were close to my pencil estimate plus they were available to complete the project sooner rather than later. From arrival to look at what we needed done, providing a proposal, interfacing with the city permitting and inspection process, to completion of the work and communication with us; the Sermon personnel were very professional and efficient. The day the work was scheduled the two of them arrived between 8&9 as planned, they had the work well planned out, walked us through the planned work, efficiently completed the work with hardly any mess left behind, and 8 hours later walked us through the completed work. We turned the AC on in our trailer and voilà we can escape to air conditioned comfort in our trailer when it's super hot!!! They notified the city inspector that the installation was complete and this morning the city inspector inspected the work and approved it. Sermon provided us a copy of the city letter of notification for our records.

As for these parts markups, the prices I have been quoted were about the same or 10% more than me ordering it myself, so again, no huge markups from my experience. Our heat is currently out and they actually brought over some loaner space heaters because the part was 3 days out. The installed price for the part I need is only around $80 more than having it overnighted. Pretty honest prices in my cases.....
