Placed an 350$ order. On the day of delivery I was home all day. They use Fedex as a carrier. I know from experience that fedex leaves packages by the front door without even knocking on the door or ringing the bell. Many time I saw fedex truck pull up in front of my house, the guy just puts the package down and leaves and does not bother knocking on the door or ringing the bell. Meanwhile I am home and could get my package before someone steals it. I am sure this time same thing happened. They did investigation and told me that because it looks like theft they are not going to refund me. Also, there is no proofs that it was theft. They told me that It looks like theft. Anyhow, I recently purchased a Smith Sessions mountain bike helmet in black and green as pictured on their website but received a black and grey one. I specifically purchased from Moosejaw instead of REI because of the color selection. Since I'm stationed overseas I'm not able to return the helmet. I gave Moosejaw a 5-star review in 2017. However, my most recent shopping experience with definitely not 5-star. I recently ordered a pair of Hanwag shoes from Moosejaw. Before purchasing, I confirmed with them via their website chat the sizes listed on their website were UK. Once I got that confirmation, I went ahead with the purchase. However, when the shoes arrived, they didn't fit - because Moosejaw had sent the wrong size - US size, and not what I confirmed with them. Of course, the shoes I wanted are sold out. Very disappointed. I've ordered several times from them, and never had a problem. I wonder, why now? Well, I did a little research and discovered that Moosejaw was acquired by WalMart in 2018. Ugh. After hearing so many good things about Moosejaw I decided to place an order for a new tent and some other items to prepare for the winter camping season. The phone person was new, seemed to go through the correct steps which included authorization to ship to an address other than the billing address. In anticipation of receiving the order and practice pitching the tent, I checked email to track the package, only to learn that there was an email sitting in my spam folder to confirm the billing address. This was previously accomplished with the phone person due to different billing and shipping addresses. To further complicate matters, after contacting customer service this morning, I was informed that the tent wasn't in stock and wouldn't be available for a few weeks, contrary to what I was informed when placing the initial order and paying for 2-day shipping? The customer service rep was however kind enough to offer me some Moosejaw points. However, there is a silver lining! After cancelling the entire order with Moosejaw, I sent the purchase confirmation to www.Campsaver.com and they not only matched all of the Moosejaw pricing, but have everything in stock, not to mention that the order was placed in a fraction of the time due to great campsaver.com customer service. The moral of the story is if you want points, shop at REI.com, and if you want best pricing and service, go to Campsaver.com. read more

I bought a gopro 6, with a battery and a bike mount, but the camera is defected, so i decide to return everything and get it from elsewhere. Seem to have good prices. After ordering a product, my husband changed his mind. Unfortunately, there is no way to cancel an order without contacting customer service. So we call customer service and hear "We're sorry but you've caught us in the middle of a heated ping pong tournament and cannot come to the phone right now. Please leave us a message and we'll return your call within 2 hours." Then the line disconnects so you cannot leave a voicemail. So next we try to Live Chat. We get a response that the live chat is not available and someone will respond to our request within 12 hours. My husband then gets an email that our chat was delivered because there was an invalid domain. Something so simple should NOT be this complicated. So I order a pair of shoes for $149 and they immediately say my order doesn't qualify for the 2-day because it is a "special order" for them. Then they say that they are not sending it at all because they "oversold" it, and I get a refund instead. So they are selling items they don't even own ... if that isn't totally unprofessional, I don't know what is! I hope the Moosejaw owner will experience purchasing items online that don't really exist either, and see how he or she enjoys it too. read more

I have ordered from Moosejaw several times and never had an issue. My most recent purchases were over the past months. My orders arrived within 3 days as promised. I found my last order to be $40 cheaper on another online site and they refunded me the difference within 24 hours. I found their customer service on the phone and through text helpful, friendly and efficient. Pretty terrible customer service. I received an email that my item was delayed and I had paid extra for expedited service. Fine that it is delayed, but you wouldn't want to pay expedited service for that...and the person who worked here just kept saying "I'm sorry ma'am we can't predict these things." This is a review of their internet/phone order service. I initially purchased an Arcteryx jacket for a certain price, no issues with purchasing or receiving the item. It came with a manufacturer defect, so I returned if for an exchange. When I received the item again, I checked the invoice and the price didn't match up with the original invoice hat I had originally received. I became quickly suspicious and checked my credit card statement. As I had suspected, they charged my credit card with a new price WITHOUT my authorization. That is FRUAD. I had gotten my jacket for a discounted price and after I exchanged it, they charged me the retail price. I was LIVID. What gives them the right to charge me MORE for just an exchange WITHOUT my consent? The jacket was not damaged, all original tags were still on it, it was 100% new. I just wanted to make people aware of this underhandedness. It is true that this just happened by chance and I was just unlucky and that their business practices are sound, but nonetheless it needs to be brought to light. I called them, they reversed the charge but at no point in time did they ever apologize for their flagrant mistake. It would have been nice for some compensation but that's just wishful thinking. Having said that, I do EXPECT an apology. Unfortunately, they will receive a complaint from the business bureau. It turned out to be somewhat of a disaster , my jacket came in a size to small (my fault no problem) so i wanted to exchange it for something else, what i wanted to exchange it for it happened to be out of stock when I was chatting with someone they happened to take it upon themselves to ship me a jacket that i never wanted, and also voided my original promo code. I saw the free 2 day shipping, so I decided to get some shirts for my imminent trip. After the checkout, I saw on the invoice that I forgot to explicitly opt-in to the 2 day shipping, and got stuck with 4-6 day, which will arrive after I'm gone. Call it my mistake if you like, but I immediately went to the website to try to fix the shipping, or cancel the order and submit a new one: no such luck. Then I went to their chat room and they said their order processing system was down, so they couldn't cancel the order or change the shipping. They told me (I'm still shocked) to contact them again tomorrow, "hopefully it will be up by then". Well, I did at 7am Pacific, and by then the product already shipped by slow route. I guess I'll get a neighbor to pick it up while I'm away. Recommendations to Moosejaw: 1. If you advertise free 2-day shipping, default to free 2-day shipping. Otherwise it's bait and switch. Yes it costs you more, but it's what the customer wants. 2. Support online order tweaking, cancelation. 3. Have backup policies in place when you system goes down for common actions like order canceling. 4. Get a better computer system: these things shouldn't really fail. I don't remember the last time I came to a store related to sports equipment/clothing (of any kind) and have had so much fun. I didn't come in here for a while because I knew it only as a chain. Low and behold, this place feels more like an independent shop than a franchise. Three charming guys were working the day I came in and boy howdy were they outgoing, helpful (beyond just trying to sell you their own stuff), and knowledgeable. None of that closed-off, rugged-mountain-dude, elitist garbage. Nope. Welcoming and completely unjudgmental. They have suspended climbing holds where you can try and match other people's pull-up count. And there's a designated arm wrestling station. Ok. So both of these things sound a litte macho but that's not the feeling you get. It's all very playful. Decent selection of clothing, limited but primo selection of gear, great rewards card system. I came in to buy a small something for my nephew and walked out buying a new climbing harness I needed, but I couldn't afford. That's how much I liked the experience. From now on, if I need good advice and friendly assistance with my sports merch, I'ma comin' here. read more

Though I haven't bought much 'gear' here, I can definitely give Moosejaw four stars for a lot of reasons. One, their staff is super nice (almost too much.... but I'll take it!) and always welcomes me to the store when I walk in. Two, they have a fairly cool selection of women's 'street' clothing from pseudo-outdoor brands like Roxy and Billabong, etc, which is fun for summer weekends. And third, my husband walked in there with a 10-year-old North Face ski jacket that he'd DEFINITELY bought somewhere else. The zipper has been busted for two ski seasons now and he wanted to ask them if they knew how to get it to North Face. They told him that it was no problem, they'd just send the jacket to North Face for him, FOR FREE DOLLARS. And they'd call him once it was done and he could come back and pick it up. Now that is good service. =) If I had $ I would be very into their high-end jackets by Arcteryx and Patagonia for winter and skiing. They have a lot of nice stuff, but more importantly they run their business incredibly well. read more

I never had an issue with my items. I placed 5 order over a 1 month period. The problem I have is that they use Fed-Ex. Fed-Ex is awful. I only received 2 of my orders. Fed-Ex lost the other 2. Yes they advertise 2 day shipping but my items that did arrive were just under 2 weeks in shipping. The others items were lost and then Moosejaw had them rerouted. And don't worry about your refund, they will get it back to you after Fed-Ex locates the item and delivers it back to Moosejaw. So, we had to take a trip to Ann Arbor and I saw they have a store there. Duh! I had to check it out. If it's even remotely like the catalog, it's going to be awesome. The store is small, and not quite as amusing as the catalog, but I still enjoyed window shopping, right down to the Christopher Walken head on the mirror for trying stuff on. Update to my quest for credit on a returned item. After the stated policy time of 5 to 7 business days for credit on a returned item had passed I again called Moosejaw to inquire as to why my credit card account had not been refunded. The 7 business days date from receipt of the returned item was December 20 and as of the 26th I had no refund and no confirmation email regarding the fact that they had received the returned item on the 11th of December. All I got were more excuses about how busy they were and that they were running behind schedule. After I expressed my dissatisfaction quite strongly they finally sent me an email saying that my return and credit had been processed. Needless to say I will not be using this company in the future. They are a poorly run business and DO NOT follow their stated policies and the excuses are beyond acceptable. read more

I'm going to start off by saying it is expensive, but it's worth the price. First thing I noticed about this store was the awesome friendly and helpful staff who had no problem giving me a verbal tour of the city (I don't know Michigan or Ann Arbor well at all yet). The second thing I noticed was the huge assortment of awesome stuff that they seem to keep heavily stocked. My girlfriend and I ended up leaving with a shirt with a moose sporting shades and some extremely functional toe socks that I never would have known existed. I wouldn't come here bargain hunting but if you are looking for performance hiking, climbing, trekking or even just walking gear I can't suggest this place enough.
