DO NOT FALL FOR THE 2 DAY SHIPPING UPGRADE. I placed my order on December 11th and the package still isn't due to arrive until next week. There are plenty of other online retailers that give legitimate shipping information. Moosejaw isn't one of them... read more

Not sure why the bad reviews, but I gave this company a chance and I am glad I did! Ordered a North Face jacket from them, as they were the best price for the jacket I wanted. I received the item in two days, as promised. Email communication about shipping was great. Item was well packaged, and jacket was exactly what I ordered! Will order from them again without hesitation!!! read more

Placed an 350$ order. On the day of delivery I was home all day. They use Fedex as a carrier. I know from experience that fedex leaves packages by the front door without even knocking on the door or ringing the bell. Many time I saw fedex truck pull up in front of my house, the guy just puts the package down and leaves and does not bother knocking on the door or ringing the bell. Meanwhile I am home and could get my package before someone steals it. I am sure this time same thing happened. They did investigation and told me that because it looks like theft they are not going to refund me. Also, there is no proofs that it was theft. They told me that It looks like theft. It might as well being lost in transit somewhere. End of story. Last time I use this website. I have always been using bckcountry.com and they refund you no matter what. read more

I initially provided a review on Moosejaw's website but it was not accepted since it relates to the buying experience and not the product. Anyhow, I recently purchased a Smith Sessions mountain bike helmet in black and green as pictured on their website but received a black and grey one. I specifically purchased from Moosejaw instead of REI because of the color selection. Since I'm stationed overseas I'm not able to return the helmet. Regardless, the helmet is well made and I'm happy with the construction, but less so w/ Moosejaw's bait and switch and subsequent refusal to allow negative reviews to be placed on their website. I gave Moosejaw a 5-star review in 2017. However, my most recent shopping experience with definitely not 5-star. I recently ordered a pair of Hanwag shoes from Moosejaw. Before purchasing, I confirmed with them via their website chat the sizes listed on their website were UK. Once I got that confirmation, I went ahead with the purchase. However, when the shoes arrived, they didn't fit - because Moosejaw had sent the wrong size - US size, and not what I confirmed with them. Of course, the shoes I wanted are sold out. Very disappointed. I've ordered several times from them, and never had a problem. I wonder, why now? Well, I did a little research and discovered that Moosejaw was acquired by WalMart in 2018. Ugh. I'm not sure if I can trust Moosejaw's level of service anymore. Unfortunately, they offer hard-to-find shoe ware that I like, but I'm not sure if I will do business with them again, nor would I recommend them to anyone. read more

ordered an item. It was used, with the tag no longer attached to the product and obvious signs of prior use. Deceptive practice to sell as new. read more

This is a review of their internet/phone order service. I initially purchased an Arcteryx jacket for a certain price, no issues with purchasing or receiving the item. It came with a manufacturer defect, so I returned if for an exchange. When I received the item again, I checked the invoice and the price didn't match up with the original invoice hat I had originally received. I became quickly suspicious and checked my credit card statement. As I had suspected, they charged my credit card with a new price WITHOUT my authorization. That is FRUAD. I had gotten my jacket for a discounted price and after I exchanged it, they charged me the retail price. I was LIVID. What gives them the right to charge me MORE for just an exchange WITHOUT my consent? The jacket was not damaged, all original tags were still on it, it was 100% new. I just wanted to make people aware of this underhandedness. It is true that this just happened by chance and I was just unlucky and that their business practices are sound, but nonetheless it needs to be brought to light. I called them, they reversed the charge but at no point in time did they ever apologize for their flagrant mistake. It would have been nice for some compensation but that's just wishful thinking. Having said that, I do EXPECT an apology. Unfortunately, they will receive a complaint from the business bureau. The reason for the 2 stars is that I've had better customer experience with more and less at stake. read more

I was actually really excited about this company cause they had alot of promo codes available and affordable prices for nice jackets. It turned out to be somewhat of a disaster , my jacket came in a size to small (my fault no problem) so i wanted to exchange it for something else, what i wanted to exchange it for it happened to be out of stock when I was chatting with someone they happened to take it upon themselves to ship me a jacket that i never wanted, and also voided my original promo code. So i got charged for a jacket that i never ordered and they had shipped out. talking to them was stupid - they seem to not really care about your issue and frustration, i can get past people making mistakes but when you make a mistake and are being an ass about it esp when your spending $100+ on one thing its unacceptable. read more

After hearing so many good things about Moosejaw I decided to place an order for a new tent and some other items to prepare for the winter camping season. The phone person was new, seemed to go through the correct steps which included authorization to ship to an address other than the billing address. In anticipation of receiving the order and practice pitching the tent, I checked email to track the package, only to learn that there was an email sitting in my spam folder to confirm the billing address. This was previously accomplished with the phone person due to different billing and shipping addresses. To further complicate matters, after contacting customer service this morning, I was informed that the tent wasn't in stock and wouldn't be available for a few weeks, contrary to what I was informed when placing the initial order and paying for 2-day shipping? The customer service rep was however kind enough to offer me some Moosejaw points. However, there is a silver lining! After cancelling the entire order with Moosejaw, I sent the purchase confirmation to www.Campsaver.com and they not only matched all of the Moosejaw pricing, but have everything in stock, not to mention that the order was placed in a fraction of the time due to great campsaver.com customer service. The moral of the story is if you want points, shop at REI.com, and if you want best pricing and service, go to Campsaver.com. read more

Worst company out there. 3 times they send the wrong boot and blame lacrosse boots as if I care whom they buy their stick from. Finally gave up and send back for a refund. 4 weeks later refund didn't happen yet. All phone calls are futile cos their staff is incompetent and never have an answer. This is a bad bad deal. read more

Their items are never in stock, and they waste weeks of your time. I've now gone through five orders in a row with them trying to just get a parka, and every time, something is off. Either I get a notice weeks or days later that it's not actually in stock - in spite of ordering it with a customer service representative - or I'm sent the wrong thing. I was sent a medium that they had labelled incorrectly as a small (I needed a small), and am now being sent an entirely different parka from the one I ordered. They are not worth your time. Also you have to listen to a racist war criminal the entire time you're on hold. read more

Moosejaw processed my return and only returned part of what I sent back!! I bought a gopro 6, with a battery and a bike mount, but the camera is defected, so i decide to return everything and get it from elsewhere. They give me refund only for the camera and battery, but not the bike mount. The return department claim my bike mount is not in my return, but they give me credit back anyway...thanks Jeremy. A three star for all these trouble. read more

I've been here only to purchase sandals because my shoes were hurting my feet. I enjoyed the experience as much as anyone can when they spend approximately 7 minutes inside a store. I went in, found the sandals, choose the pair that I liked best and checked out. Everything was quick and friendly and they even cut the tags off so I could wear them out of the store. read more

Seem to have good prices. After ordering a product, my husband changed his mind. Unfortunately, there is no way to cancel an order without contacting customer service. So we call customer service and hear "We're sorry but you've caught us in the middle of a heated ping pong tournament and cannot come to the phone right now. Please leave us a message and we'll return your call within 2 hours." Then the line disconnects so you cannot leave a voicemail. So next we try to Live Chat. We get a response that the live chat is not available and someone will respond to our request within 12 hours. My husband then gets an email that our chat was delivered because there was an invalid domain. Something so simple should NOT be this complicated. Pay more to use a company with better customer service! read more

Moosejaw advertised free 2-day shipping on orders over $49. So I order a pair of shoes for $149 and they immediately say my order doesn't qualify for the 2-day because it is a "special order" for them. Then they say that they are not sending it at all because they "oversold" it, and I get a refund instead. So they are selling items they don't even own ... if that isn't totally unprofessional, I don't know what is! I hope the Moosejaw owner will experience purchasing items online that don't really exist either, and see how he or she enjoys it too. read more

I have ordered from Moosejaw several times and never had an issue. My most recent purchases were over the past months. My orders arrived within 3 days as promised. I found my last order to be $40 cheaper on another online site and they refunded me the difference within 24 hours. I found their customer service on the phone and through text helpful, friendly and efficient. I don't always write reviews when my expectation for services are met (and in this case exceeded), but there seems to be an imbalance of negative reviews for this company. read more

Pretty terrible customer service. I received an email that my item was delayed and I had paid extra for expedited service. Fine that it is delayed, but you wouldn't want to pay expedited service for that...and the person who worked here just kept saying "I'm sorry ma'am we can't predict these things." On a separate note, I spoke to costumer service about a price correction for the product and they said it would happen instantly. I called back after 5 hours, and they said 24 hours. I called back after 24 hours and they said maybe two days. read more

DO NOT USE! Another hit and run mail order outfit that will gladly charge your card, then forget about you, meaning they never really had the merchandise, so you'll get it -- whenever/maybe/someday -- WHEN their vendor ships it to you. BTW that vendor won't contact you. No ship dates, no promises that it WILL be shipped, and certainly no responsiveness to the customers that use their crappy business model. They appear to compete on price, but be careful, the price of non-shipment is very high after your card is debited, as they shift accountability from themselves to a third party vendor with you in the middle. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

I don't remember the last time I came to a store related to sports equipment/clothing (of any kind) and have had so much fun. I didn't come in here for a while because I knew it only as a chain. Low and behold, this place feels more like an independent shop than a franchise. Three charming guys were working the day I came in and boy howdy were they outgoing, helpful (beyond just trying to sell you their own stuff), and knowledgeable. None of that closed-off, rugged-mountain-dude, elitist garbage. Nope. Welcoming and completely unjudgmental. They have suspended climbing holds where you can try and match other people's pull-up count. And there's a designated arm wrestling station. Ok. So both of these things sound a litte macho but that's not the feeling you get. It's all very playful. Decent selection of clothing, limited but primo selection of gear, great rewards card system. I came in to buy a small something for my nephew and walked out buying a new climbing harness I needed, but I couldn't afford. That's how much I liked the experience. From now on, if I need good advice and friendly assistance with my sports merch, I'ma comin' here. read more

I saw the free 2 day shipping, so I decided to get some shirts for my imminent trip. After the checkout, I saw on the invoice that I forgot to explicitly opt-in to the 2 day shipping, and got stuck with 4-6 day, which will arrive after I'm gone. Call it my mistake if you like, but I immediately went to the website to try to fix the shipping, or cancel the order and submit a new one: no such luck. Then I went to their chat room and they said their order processing system was down, so they couldn't cancel the order or change the shipping. They told me (I'm still shocked) to contact them again tomorrow, "hopefully it will be up by then". Well, I did at 7am Pacific, and by then the product already shipped by slow route. I guess I'll get a neighbor to pick it up while I'm away. Recommendations to Moosejaw: 1. If you advertise free 2-day shipping, default to free 2-day shipping. Otherwise it's bait and switch. Yes it costs you more, but it's what the customer wants. 2. Support online order tweaking, cancelation. 3. Have backup policies in place when you system goes down for common actions like order canceling. 4. Get a better computer system: these things shouldn't really fail. They took a relatively small "mistake" on my part and turned it into a hassle. read more

Though I haven't bought much 'gear' here, I can definitely give Moosejaw four stars for a lot of reasons. One, their staff is super nice (almost too much.... but I'll take it!) and always welcomes me to the store when I walk in. Two, they have a fairly cool selection of women's 'street' clothing from pseudo-outdoor brands like Roxy and Billabong, etc, which is fun for summer weekends. And third, my husband walked in there with a 10-year-old North Face ski jacket that he'd DEFINITELY bought somewhere else. The zipper has been busted for two ski seasons now and he wanted to ask them if they knew how to get it to North Face. They told him that it was no problem, they'd just send the jacket to North Face for him, FOR FREE DOLLARS. And they'd call him once it was done and he could come back and pick it up. Now that is good service. =) If I had $ I would be very into their high-end jackets by Arcteryx and Patagonia for winter and skiing. They have a lot of nice stuff, but more importantly they run their business incredibly well. read more

I found Moosejaw online in 2018 and have made numerous orders. I have never had an issue. My orders are received within a day or two and the items are as described. Exceptionally friendly staff who also happen to be exceptionally attractive. Good thing they only carry expensive stuff or I would probably end up shopper stalking their manager. I went in looking for a good fall fleece to keep me warm waiting at the bus stop. They really knew their products and could easily list off pros and cons. Plus, they played fun music and made me laugh. Granted, I'm no lumberjill, so I can't comment on the selection of professional equipment, but I would definitely shop here again. read more

Ordered a sleeping bag as my first purchase from this store. I was later informed that the item was out of stock, and would not be back in stock in the future. So, I've been ordering from MooseJaw forever online. Everybody in Seattle will probably hate me, but I like them better than R.E.I. There. I said it. Moving on. So, we had to take a trip to Ann Arbor and I saw they have a store there. Duh! I had to check it out. If it's even remotely like the catalog, it's going to be awesome. The store is small, and not quite as amusing as the catalog, but I still enjoyed window shopping, right down to the Christopher Walken head on the mirror for trying stuff on. They are pricey, but, honestly, what outdoor recreation store isn't? They are priced comparable to REI, but in my opinion, have a better reward system. Love the madness. read more

People of California, we are one. Let's secede from the Feds. Let's take Alaska to Cabo with us. We need to fund our revolution. That said, Moosejaw charges zero sales tax. Perhaps I'm only a patriot until it costs me. And even though I say I love REI, I peruse REI, commit to what I want and then go to Moosejaw.com! I rob CA of its tax, I use Moosejaw Internet codes even on their sale items, and get free shipping to my door on stuff like: Black Diamond Mirage Tent 2 Mountain Hardware Spectre SL+20 Snow Peak Titanium Cook Set Exped Down Mat Delux SteriPen Adventurer Handheld MSR Miniworks EX Microfilter Ice Breaker Clothes (better than Pataonia or judge for yourself) I'll need these these items when the Bear Flag Revolt rises again! Customer service is terrible--the people are nice, but the online "store" is really a fiction. It is just a middle-man that puts in order to the company that is selling the product. So, if there is a problem with shipping or anything else there is nothing they can do and they just stonewall. Don't deal with these folks! they promise what they can't deliver and then give you problems when you object. read more

I'm going to start off by saying it is expensive, but it's worth the price. First thing I noticed about this store was the awesome friendly and helpful staff who had no problem giving me a verbal tour of the city (I don't know Michigan or Ann Arbor well at all yet). The second thing I noticed was the huge assortment of awesome stuff that they seem to keep heavily stocked. My girlfriend and I ended up leaving with a shirt with a moose sporting shades and some extremely functional toe socks that I never would have known existed. I wouldn't come here bargain hunting but if you are looking for performance hiking, climbing, trekking or even just walking gear I can't suggest this place enough. There is free parking not too far away every Sunday, so plan it out if you don't live nearby. read more

Fantastic customer service!! I'm moving to Ann Arbor from California next week for grad school and I wanted to take advantage of fall sales to get what will soon be a desperately needed coat. Of course I'm totally clueless about Michigan winters, so I called the store and the manager Alyssa was so helpful! I told her what coat I was looking at online and she confirmed that it was what I'll be needing. She even ordered it in two sizes for me to try on in store when I get to town so I can see if I'll need a larger size for layering! read more

I'm a little sad to hear that Moosejaw has sold out. I must agree with the previous reviews that the store itself (Ann Arbor) is not all that it could be. However, I have been incredibly impressed with the customer service of the Moosejawers over the phone. I will still be calling upon them for certain needs from across the country, especially when they answer the phone all funny like! read more

I never had an issue with my items. I placed 5 order over a 1 month period. The problem I have is that they use Fed-Ex. Fed-Ex is awful. I only received 2 of my orders. Fed-Ex lost the other 2. Yes they advertise 2 day shipping but my items that did arrive were just under 2 weeks in shipping. The others items were lost and then Moosejaw had them rerouted. And don't worry about your refund, they will get it back to you after Fed-Ex locates the item and delivers it back to Moosejaw. This is your 'local neighborhood outdoor store'. I'm a fan of the folks that work there, and the passion they always exhibit when you inquire about a certain product or feature of a product. I find that anytime you have a question, they have a good story, or well informed insight into why a product acts the way it does, or the type of material that is used, and its benefits. I'm also a fan of the pull up challenge they have hanging in the back, some days I imagine I could do 25 pull-ups too, but alas I cannot on those pull-up blocks. read more

If you're looking for some winter sports gear (whether you actually do winter sports or just want to stay warm in the frozen wasteland of the Midwest) then this is one of two places in Ann Arbor you can go to (the other is Bivouac). You can also get warm-weather gear here too (rock climbing, camelbaks, sneakers, canoes, hackysacks, and normal or high-tech clothes). The people who work there generally quite friendly and somewhat knowledgeable. They are also reasonable about prices, once you realize that most of this stuff is just really expensive everywhere. The store is small and quite cramped, making it hard to navigate and find things and really hard to try things on where you find them. They are also open later than most stores downtown which can be very convenient if you need to drive in and want to park within a mile. Personally I'm more concerned with the scant bike parking. My main complaint is that they are WAY too into themselves. A much larger section than appropriate is filled with moosejaw branded crap: headbands, T-shirts, water bottles, hats, etc. It's not REI; it's not actual gear or original clothes made by Moosejaw. It's just the same stuff you can buy anywhere (Sears, Meijer, Urban Outfitters, wherever) that happens to have THEIR name on it instead of some other retail company's. The kind of things that other places just give to their big spenders as free gifts and promotions are on sale through an area larger than the non-Moosejaw shirts sections. That's just dumb and narcissistic. read more
