It was quiet and peaceful. The toilets and beach were conveniently located to us. I also appreciated the bath house. Picnic table and fire ring were immediately put to good use. Thanks for having firewood available, on site. We had a lot of fun in the canoe and paddleboard. The boys also liked the basketball hoop. The camp store is well stocked with a little bit of everything and, while we felt remote, we were close to several convenience stores for anything else we needed. We were also close enough to hike both Mt Battie and Maidens Cliff in Camden.

There was not a great cover on the mattress, it was torn. I would move and a puff of smoke would envelope me. When I asked about it I was told that no one had complained in 25 years... Follow up question was "You have not changed the mattress in 25 years?" I was looked at like I was crazy. Needless to say, we cut our 3 day visit to one night and got out! I have to say, the folks there were nice. They offered to let us change Kabins, they offered to give us a different mattress. (I had already booked a new place by then.) Seemed like loads of fun for kids. (Weird but fun...Halloween in August...loads of trailers with tons of Halloween gear. ??) The facilities are just old. Not what you expect from a KOA.

Unfortunately cabin #2 here at Mic Mac Campgrounds we would consider the worst accommodations we have ever experienced. We were on vacation with another couple for our friends birthday weekend. We normally stay at another campground close by but it was booked so we figured we would give this place a chance being it had fair sounding reviews and that we had not been here before. We were greeted by the owner whom was very friendly and provided information on the recent fishing activity on the pond and explained that if we needed any additional kitchen supplies to just come up and get them. We did take note that the camp store was not very inviting nor was it well stocked with supplies you may need as you may find at other campgrounds. It was sort of messy and disorganized, but we figured maybe it was a work in progress. We departed across the road to our cabin which from the road appeared to be dated but large enough for our group of four. Upon entering the cabin the first thing we noticed was that the floors were very bouncy and extremely warped and on even, sort of gave us that "Funhouse" effect when walking across then because you bounced along the softening floor. We then observed that there were cobwebs everywhere and even in areas that were easily accessible if the cabin had been remotely cleaned. The cabin is very spacious and well laid out for each rooms privacy and it has a spiral staircase in the middle of the living room going up to the loft area which has two twin beds. We ventured upstairs and during the climb noted that the staircase moved around a fair bit as we ascended. Upon accessing the loft I felt extremely concerned that the floor would possibly support us up there. The other couple with us said you could see the ceiling bowing as we walked across the floor. Once we got back downstairs I observed that the mounting plate holding the stairs upright was completely un-attached from the floor (missing 3 of the four bolts and the only one there was broken off) and that the only thing holding it in place was two lag bolts into an old ceiling beam, so we decided not to go up there anymore. Again we figured we don't need to access upstairs so it was not of concern to us but folks staying there relying on the upper beds should be cautioned of this. During the rest of the walkthrough of the place I noted several areas of concern. First I would like to mention that I work for a Federal Government Agency that is responsible for safety, so I have a vast understanding of what's safe and what's not. - The bathroom had a missing electrical plate on the 4 receptacle outlet right above the bathtub as well as not being GFCI protected, there was mold build up on the ceiling by the shower, the safe grabs in the shower are rusted out and broken, and the bathroom window would not open. - The master bedroom (King Bed) has two closets in them and one has exposed insulation falling into it from the ceiling where it looked like something possibly crawled through it at one point. We observed a colony of ants crawling across the floor so bad that we dared not put anything of ours on the floor. The window looking behind the cabin was broken and just barely holding in place but was still out just enough if you were to run your hand along it, it would cut you. On a plus note the bed was very comfortable. There was a television in the room but it was just static, no channels were able to be gotten. In here again just like ever where else throughout the cabin was cobwebs all along the beams. - The second bedroom (Two Doubles) was a little bit better as far as accommodations and neatness. However the door accessing that room from the outside was not lockable and the deck outside of that door was horrific. The deck felt as if it was going to collapse as you stepped on to it and the rain gutter just above the door was collapsed down onto the deck and the roofs eave was rotting away to the point that you felt that portion of the roof would leak or collapse. - The kitchen was your typical kitchen and had the basics as far as pots and pans. The stove island was missing a draw front and was pretty dirty. We went to utilize a few pots and pans that evening for supper and found that the pots were not even cleaned from the folks before us. There was still stock food all over the bottom of them and most of them were rusting. We did the best we could to clean them but did manage to locate one or two that we could use. The top shelf of the pantry we observed a mouse nest in the back corner and the following day we found some of our food had been chewed through and mouse feces on the counter tops.

I can not say much about the cabin experience because I like to camp in tents. They are being renovated and look nice. But if you're looking for some peace and quiet this is the place. We were told that our site was on the water and filled out all our information. I was very pleased that they were able to accommodate our stay on such short notice, but when we went to check in on the day of our stay, they told us the site we had rented was already rented and put us in another site about a quarter-mile from the water, and didn't give us any discount or even apologize about this. We then looked at the information sheet we had filled out and they had deliberately written over our reservation and switched it. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this campground to anyone after this terrible experience, especially knowing there are much nicer facilities nearby.

We ended up spending a week with the Ledges are our base - it's ideally located between the towns of Rockport and Rockland with easy access in either direction. We were in a room with a kingsized bed with a balcony - the coastal view from the balcony is wonderful and the air very fresh and clean. The room was immaculate and included an empty dorm-sized refrigerator and large TV. The layout was interesting with an extra sink in the larger room outside of the bath which we found very convenient. It had all the usual bits - I believe this was an older, classic motel that has been upgraded, but it's retained the original neon (No) Vacancy sign - we would use it to figure out how close were were to the entrance (there's three (No) Vacancy signs traveling north from Claws so by counting them it made it easier to look for the entry, the roads are very dark and often foggy. Breakfast is in a room behind the service desk and included most of the regular suspects. Most of the proteins were vegetarian except for hardboiled eggs. You have the ubiquitous waffle-maker and a coffee machine that makes coffee to order - I found it pretty weak but in general most of the coffee I've tried in Maine has been watery. The owners also offer vegetarian Indian food on the weekends - you order through a website and walk over to pick them up - unfortunately we got too busy to try them out but plan to the next time - heard many good comments about the food and it smelled divine. The staff at the Ledges were super nice and very accommodating. We tried to keep the room very clean (we tend to be super clean anyway) and used the towels sparingly - hopefully they didn't mind forgoing the daily cleaning. This is a solid 4.2/5 stars.

There are a few things that were of note, the railing on the balcony is totally unsafe and not up to code! The beds were so uncomfortable and are literally Glorified cot. The outside of the building is dingy and mildew growing. There was a musty smell in the room and common areas. While the back yard space is huge there's no draw. There is a hugely missed opportunity there. Add a firepit ,corn hole, picnic tables that are not rotten! The "stairs" to the water are COMPLETELY unsafe!! And a lawsuit waiting to happen! The pool area has broken loungers, no umbrellas or tables. The rug area has mold. Overall I would say that our experience was mediocre.

Only recommendation is to look into the water pressure was slightly low but there's been a 6-7 week drought due to rain and they use a well but nothing extremely bothersome. Rooms are clean and comfortable, grounds are well kept and pleasant with access to the beach and an overlook over the ocean. Mark, seems to be the point person for check in, dining locations and anything local you need answering. He was very much a highlight of the trip, very social, knowledgeable, cooks breakfast and is always very friendly. He even serves people and is always seen cleaning or busing tables as well. He's a very genuine person and very welcoming and he's the reason we will absolutely be coming back! If the owners read this, you need to hang onto this man because he is a HUGE asset to your business!
