I've dropped by Mooring Eats a couple of times. Both visits involved picking up baklava for my dad, including a quick-and-dirty visit yesterday. My first visit was a few months ago after work. This eatery is in Mimico. I used to hang out in this area fairly often several years ago, so it helped that I was kind of familiar with the area. As with many neighbourhoods in Toronto, things change quickly! Both times, I found a parking spot facing Lake Shore Boulevard West, steps away from the store. This eatery is located in a plaza. There is additional parking to the left of the eatery. I walked into Mooring Eats and it was busy. It smelled good. I got the warmest smile from Spiro at the order counter. His son, Wagih, was working alongside him. Both own the eatery. I ordered the mixed shawarma plate a few months ago, which consists of chicken and beef shawarma, with your choice of two sides. Wagih asked me what sides I wanted. I had no idea what sides were available. He was so patient and kind to point them out. I went with chickpea salad and basmati rice. Spiro was generous to say that I could get more sides if I wanted to. I was okay with the two that I chose because they looked so good. Both of them helped put my plate together. I got tahini and garlic sauce. The plate comes with pickled turnips and pickles. I also got baklava for my dad during my first visit. He has always loved baklava and it looked so good in the clear boxes in front of me. Spiro wanted to confirm whether I was going to dine in or do takeout. I went with the latter, as I was flying to the Twin Cities the next day and needed to pack. He put both my items in a bag and handed it over to me. I thanked them both for the food. They hoped that I'd enjoy my food. It looked so good. I headed to my car, backed my car onto the street, and headed home. I visited my parents first before I headed home the first time I got my dad baklava. I dropped it off. My dad's eyes lit up. He insisted that I have a couple of squares. There were six. I ate two. I loved them. The baklava isn't drenched in honey. It was slightly sweet, with the pistachio nuts and flaky pastry standing out more. I am not a huge baklava person because I dislike how sweet it can get, but I am a fan of this version. I flew out to the Twin Cities the following day. My dad told me that he ate the whole thing after I had left. Note to self: Get two boxes for my dad next time. Guess what I did yesterday? I got my dad two boxes. It's Sunday. Guess how many boxes are left? One. I did well getting two boxes this time. The chicken and beef shawarma plate that I had months ago was delicious. The seasoning was perfect and the proteins were tender. I loved the garlic sauce and tahini. The garlic was pretty strong, which I prefer. The tahini was excellent. The chickpea salad was yummy. It was refreshing with the lemon in it and it had garlic, too. I loved the basmati rice. It was so fluffy and comforting eating it with my shawarma. It was great dropping by yesterday to get baklava for my dad. I'm not in this neighbourhood often, but it worked out so well after watching a movie at Cineplex Queensway. Mooring Eats is a Syrian-owned Middle Eastern fast-serve place offering wraps, plates, and boxes that you can customize with different sides (basmati rice, lentil rice, garlic potatoes, green salad, coleslaw, chickpeas salad). I went for the Fish Fillet Plate which came in pretty big portion, and it was delicious. Fish was nicely seasoned and the sides came in generous portions. Service was quick and you could see them prepare and assemble the food in front of you. I noticed that they offer Ayran (yogurt drink that's popular in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia). My only disappointment with this place was their ubiquitous use of black plastic as the container - not only for take-out, but also for sit-down dine-in! (Black plastic is not recyclable in Toronto, so all of it would need to go to the landfill.) The giant brown paper bag for take-out also seems to be oversized and unnecessary (adding more unneeded waste). The food and service, however, were excellent. read more

Based on location I probably wouldn't have thought of dropping in for food as the parking situation is a little misleading. The front entrance area has maybe 3-4 parking spots with at least one of therm permanently taken up by a vw van displayed there. BUT.....there is parking on the side for the rest of the plaza. So don't get tricked. I popped in and got a beef shawarma plate and a chicken shawarma poutine. The plates come with pickles and radish, and two sides. Note the beef shawarma isn't cut off of a spit. Its strips of beef that is reheated on the grill. I was a bit disappointed when i saw that, but the flavours made up for it. For the sides i got lentil rice and garlic potatoes. Lentil rice looked like it would be flavoured but it wasn't really, but because of that it went really well with the flavoured beef that i had topped with tahini and garlic sauce. The garlic potatoes i was expected roasted garlic potatoes, but it was more like roasted garlic potato salad. Quite tasty, the sauce was a little spicy and a little tangy. Portion was quite large. Chicken shawarma poutine I had requested that the gravy to be packaged separately because I was getting it as takeout and didn't want everything to be soggy by the time i got home. Fries were seasoned a little too much so it was a tad salty for me. surprisingly the gravy was less salty than the fries. The chicken was good and bad. The seasoning was a bit different than the regular shawarma i'm used to eating, in a good way. And it was great that the meat was freshly cut from the spit. But i'm not sure if the meat was just a bit over marinated, there were some pieces of chicken that had an almost mushier texture than usual. Some of the chicken texture was like that, but other was fine. The person i was speaking to was very kind and friendly. I could see everyone working there takes good care into preparing the food. okay so I've had quite a bit of middle Eastern and traditional Armenian food in my lifetime...the food here was pretty delicious. This location has hosted a variety of businesses in the past so I was hopeful Mooring Eats would be able to set in some roots ..and hope the community helps too! I ordered the Chicken shawarma and the chicken was flavourful and not at all dry. Served on their basmati rice which was AMAZING and full of flavour and yumminess and honestly was a treat on its on. The Pickles were seasoned well and not overly salty which I really appreciated and the hummus and garlic sauce went really well with everything. Next time I need to order some extra garlic sauce ...so tasty. The babganoush had a nice smokey smoothness to it, and perfectly seasoned. Wish it came with pita but ordered a piece just in case! Oh man coming from mississauga which is basically little Syria and Lebanon, I was dying for a good falafel and couldn't find one! And NO paramount does not count as good. Fresh Saj bread with a layer of pita so it doesn't get soggy! Perfect tahini that's not too thick not too thin and imported from Lebanon. YES...PLEASE. Fresh veggies! And Romane lettuce not iceberg. And ouff pickled hot peppers, the proper little ones not the muticolored rings they put on hot dogs. I wanted to start dancing a Dabke (middle eastern happy dance) when I started eating my shawarma! I stumbled across this place on ubereats and definitely did not expect to be blown away by the flavour and quality of the food! I spent some time in Syria and have been looking all over the city for a Syrian Style Shawarma and lo and behold this restaurant delivers exactly that! I spoke to the chef, who used to own a famous restaurant in Syria and has now graced us here in Etobicoke with his incredible food! I absolutely cannot wait to order more from this restaurant, I ordered two chicken shawarmas and a shish tawook dinner, and it brought back some absolutely lovely memories. Mooring eats is a new shawarma joint that came to the lakeshore during the pandemic. Food here is always consistent and delicious. We usually order the shawarma plate and that includes 2 sides, shawarma meat, a small salad and hummus/garlic dip. The garlic dip is amazing! If you love a garlicky breath, this dip is definitely for you!! The meat is also grilled nicely and the rice is cooked and seasoned perfectly! Stuffed Grape Leaves - Vegetarian grape leaves stuffed with delicious soft rice and strong flavour. I've never had grape leaves, and as a first experience, this was great! There's so much flavour in the leaves, it comes off as sour but with the smooth rice, it was a good convo! Falafel wrap - The wrap contains falafel, hummus, pickles, tomato, and parsley. One thing I've noticed about their wraps is it's a bit smaller - which I love because I don't love it when my wraps are thick and chunky. Wow wow wow!! I'll be honest I went in with low expectations as this location has turned over several businesses over the last few years but I really appreciate that they've made a big effort to make the place look great, and they did! It has a nautical theme which to me is a little weird for a shawarma place but it suits the area well being that it is literally about 50 steps from the lake. My wife and I were hungry and didn't feel like cooking so took a drive and saw that they had opened so decided to give them a try. We both went for the shawarma dinners which come with a choice of rice and choice of salad. We both opted for the lentil rice which looks like it has some fried onions throughout and so much test flavour. The chicken was super tender and the sauces and accompaniments were all delicious. The business is family run and we briefly chatted with the son who was working alongside his uncle and father. The father was kind enough to throw in some baklava for us also. Overall I am so glad this place has opened a few blocks from my house as this will be added into the regular rotation and this is now the best shawarma dinner I've had in Toronto. read more

There's been a lot of hype in my neighbourhood about this establishment, so I decided to finally give it a try. Note that I always write my restaurant reviews based on taste, quality, customer service and value for money. There were no customers during my visit and there was no menu to be found. I asked the polite young man (who was cooking) if they had beef shawarma. I thought he would say no because I only saw chicken shawarma on the spit. I went ahead and ordered a beef shawarma wrap, which I had to pay for first before receiving my food - odd but anyway ... the beef shawarma was not really beef shawarma but marinated beef strips that a man (in a cruise ship hat) prepared on the flattop. The toppings looked very fresh and the wrap was rolled meticulously. It was tasty but, again, not a real beef shawarma. My suggestion to the man that cooked the meat would be to ensure that the marinade was properly "dried" before putting it on the flattop. This caused the meat to be a saucy and, when mixed with tahini, the "brown" colour is very unappetizing. All in all, it was good but not really worth the $12. I'm going to deduct a star because the man in the cruise ship hat is who I believe to be owner, did not even acknowledge me - no hello, goodbye, thank you, nothing. Stopped by for lunch on a weekday. There were very well spaced out tables indoors, but there was also the option of sitting outside. It was a really nice day so we sat outside. The staff is very attentive and they made sure to come out and clean the table and chairs before we sat down. I had an amazing chicken shwarma platter. It was so flavourful, even with cardamom in it which made it extra yummy. Everything was so fresh, including the vegetables in the salad.
