This beach is decidedly sleepier than Ocean City, Sea Isle, and many non-LBI beaches, and most of its charm is from its inherent "coziness." The lifeguards were very kind and vigilant, making sure that the no-swimming zones were properly demarcated and that we could enjoy the offings of the beach. Free street parking and some mini golf and ice cream nearby. What more can I say? :)

Like it's northern neighbor beaches, you need to drive out through a stretch of marsh to get to Del Haven beach, but it is a lot more built up than the little beaches north of it. Unlike in Villas, you can't really park along the street here unless you get one of the 2 or 3 spots right at the beach entrance, and if you don't live beachfront, it is a long long walk to the rest of town here. Easy to get to beach. Shallow calm water. There are many families and children (mid August 2024) and it was peaceful and chill. Clean gendered public toilets and outdoor shower if you need. Friendly life guards on duty. Lifeguard Trent was just wonderful to chat with and watch him help others with kindness and care. The Cape May ferry terminal is near and the ferry comes and goes. The Lion's club hosts a stand that rents umbrellas, rafts and other beach gear. They also sell hotdogs, pizza, icees and snacks. I had strawberry-lemon which was refreshingly perfect. Beyond-the-call-of-duty Lifeguard update! These pushy women sat beneath the lifeguard chair and after asking where the rental shack is about 10 times and being told--they said they couldn't walk there (it's not far) to get an umbrella. They whined and whined. Trent took the umbrella down from the lifeguard chair and set it up for them to use!!! So so generous of you Trent! I highly recommend this beach if you're looking for ease. Parking likely easier earlier in the day. I beached til evening!

Go all the way to the North end when you cannot go anymore and you are at the spot where leashed dogs are encouraged to play and enjoy the sand, ocean, and natural flora and fauna every day! In April, it was a very peaceful spot to dig some holes and admire the waves and stormy clouds. Dogs are also allowed on the other beach areas, but there are seasonal restrictions: "From October 1st to May 29th, dogs are allowed on the beach provided they are on a leash, not longer than 6 ft. Dog feces must be removed."

Love Broadkill Beach!!!…read more This is a Delaware Bay beach, between Slaughter Beach and Lewes Beach. It's my Bizarro World beach from North Cape May and Villas, across the bay. Unlike Jersey, I saw evidence of campfires on this beach, as well as 2 cars, and other ATV mule-type vehicles. While a fire on the beach at night seems SOOO fun, I respect why this is not permitted in NJ, and was a little concerned about the legality of it in DE. Cars on the beach are just not cool. It can severely damage the ecosystem and/or dunes, not to mention the hundreds of crab burrows I saw in the sand. And of course these idiots got their car stuck, and spent an hour pushing it out of the sand. Leave your car on the road. All that aside, Broadkill Beach is a very cool beach, in a small one-road community near Milton, DE. The beach itself is beautiful, with tranquil bay waters. I did not see any jellyfish, thank goodness, nor shark fishermen, like I do in Cape May County. This made me feel more safe with my toddler swimming. No lifeguards, but that means no beach tags. Just beware the current, because it's strong. You can get some medium waves, but not huge. Nice long stretch to walk. Many people had dogs with them. Most dogs were leashed, which was so appreciated, and showed their respect for the environment, and welfare of others. There is free public parking just off the road leading to the beach. Main beach entrance is right there. General store is right across from parking, with all kinds of supplies. This place has such a relaxed, safe, fun, beachy vibe!

The plus is, it's completely nature's beauty there, with a nice wide stretch of beach and a remote relaxing feel. The minus is, the road to this place is the WORST road I've ever driven in my life. As of Nov 2020, the unpaved portion of Cooks Beach road (like 60-70% of its total length) is full of holes, dips, standing water, and various other lumps and bumps. I recommend parking at the end of the paved area and walking the remainder of about 1/4 mile. I did drive it in a non-SUV but at 10mph, with white knuckles, and hella stress. Come here to relax, but bring an SUV or some sneaks to hike. Once you get to the beach it is crazy pretty, and most of the year, you will be one of very few people there. Like all of the small Middle Township bay beaches, this feels very remote and private. As with its neighbor beaches, you need to drive out through a stretch of marsh to get to it. There are homes on solid ground at the mouth of the road (by 47), but none once the road becomes unpaved. The stretch in between is marshland. Marsh makes for great wildlife but also many bugs, so prep for that in warm months.
