Took my cat Callie here beca she was hiding and puking up bile. after a $400 blood test, they said her kidneys were failing and she would die soon so I should put her down for another $100. I took her home so she's at least not die scared. that was 8 years ago and she's perfectly fine. took her to a good vet and he said her kidneys are fine and she's very healthy. I want my $400 back. Don't take your cat here unless you hate your cat and want it dead for no reason. read more

These people were super nice when I first took my cat there for a leg injury. I was happy to see that, and really made it a good experience. $600 later I figured well I have peace of mind they will support me with continued care for my cat on his injury. NOPE. These people took my money, it was so hard to get a hold of the vet after to let them know how he hadn't gotten better and if I could bring him in. Finally after about a week of trying, a vet calls me like 2 minutes before closing to tell me take him to your regular vet there's nothing we can do here for him anymore. So don't let the good bedside manner fool you, certainly fooled me. read more

I went to this vet for a while I was living in Texas. I have a black lab, and she is not overweight and looks like a typical black lab. I went in to get treatment for fleas during the summer. When the doctor walked in she said, "my your dog is obese!" I kind of ignored her comment and went on to tell her I needed flea medication. She examined my dog and agreed she had fleas and told me she was very fat. I disagreed, and told her we go on runs almost daily. She then recommended heart worm medication, and I told her I couldn't afford to pay for heart worm medication at that moment. And then this lady told me this, "Well, if you weren't feeding your dog so much food, you could of probably saved up enough to get the heart worm medication." I was super irritated and said I just wanted the flea meds and I got out of there as soon as I could. What a rude lady, I hope nobody has her as their doctor ever. read more

Recently moved to Austin and we were on the search for a new vet for our pup Cosmo! Century animal hospital was really accommodating and could get us in the quickest compared to other vets in the area. Staff here is the nicest and friendliest I've encountered! Dr. C really takes her time and is really good at laying out treatment options and medication recommendations that suite both the pet and the owner! Cosmo recently got neutered here and the actual cost came in less than their original estimate by a pretty significant amount. She was super empathic and walked us through the surgery, expected results, and even called to check up on him the next morning. Prices are pretty reasonable but we did pay $35 for a vet tech appt to get our poor boy's glands expressed whereas at a previous place in Houston we only paid $15. But otherwise still a bargain with most importantly quality and empathy. They're also super covid-19 friendly and practicing curbside pickup for the time being. read more

I recently moved to Austin, and this was my first and last time using this vet. I took my cat, Dora, in because she had been constantly smacking her lips and I had read that it can be an infection in a tooth or something. They ran a bunch of tests, costing $366, to rule everything else out, and determined they should clean her teeth and decide if any extractions were needed after she was under anesthesia. They quoted me a price range of $555-$914. I personally confirmed with Dr. Carballo the most I would be out of pocket was $914 more. I agreed and scheduled the appointment. After bringing her in, they have to keep her all day because of the anesthesia. I received the following in a text message from this vet clinics office during my cat's procedure, "Hey there, Jay from Century Animal Hospital here.  Dora is doing great under anesthesia. I wanted to let you know Dr. Carballo looked at the x-rays and it looks like Dora will need to have a couple of extractions, one of which is a lower canine and may very well be the reason for her smacking her lips. These are complicated teeth to remove, so Dr. Carballo wanted me to tell you it's possible we may be slightly above our estimate, but she's hoping that won't be the case. Are you ok with us continuing?" I replied to this message with, "ok" because I was already in so much money with this clinic, and Dora needed help. They ended up charging me $1,080, $166 more than the high point of their so-called "price range estimate". read more

The staff at Century Animal Hospital is great! I was originally referred to Dr. Nairn by my previous vet but have seen other vets here too and they've all been thorough, patient, and experienced. My golden had to have a lump removed and I was worried because he has Subarterial Aortic Stenosis (SAS) which can make it dangerous for him to be under anaesthia. But I was much less worried after my vet told me that she'd talked to his cardiologist (who knew dogs HAD cardiologists?) and that she'd operated on SAS dogs before. The office is clean, the waiting room has plenty of room for people to wait, there's a huge parking lot, and it's less than a mile from my house. And they're open Saturday morning! AVOID THIS VET AT ALL COST!! My baby boy just got out of the hospital because Century Animal Hospital forgot to send out his blood work. He now has Kidney Failure and our family is absolutely DEVASTATED!! I have never went through something like this IN MY LIFE! Century Animal Hospital tried to send out 3 day old bloodwork which we chose not to because of the false positive/negatives that can occur. Also, the amount of drugs he had to be put on just to go into their office was too much for him after going to the vet multiple times this year. (this was all done at Century Animal Hospital). The original bloodwork early this year showed that his some of his levels were high and I personally got this as a response, "It's okay and will go down on its own". I am of course going to trust my vet and now months later he has stage 2 kidney failure. LUCKILY, we had a mobile vet come out and take his blood work and got him into a hospital the next day. Century Animal Hospital has NO wish to solve this and rather argue over the fact that they would have still sent out old bloodwork for us and still charge us for OLD BLOODWORK. They feel they have made no mistake but negligence and malpractice have occurred and now my dog will deal with this for the rest of his short life from what the hospital said. He's only 5 years old and I get maybe MAYBE 2 more years. The State and Veterinarian board will be contacted next so they can be held accountable for what they have done to my child. Best vet ever. Dr. Carballo and her staff are amazing. My partner and I adopted a mastiff puppy. After doing some research we found that her chances of getting bloat are much higher than other dogs. After talking with Dr. Carballo about it she suggested we do it during her spay so she won't have to go under twice. Great idea! Best decision we ever made. Always, better safe than sorry and I appreciate the time the doc put in to explaining everything. Also, they sent pics and texts all day as she recovered. Great service and reasonably priced! I come here for my dog, Bruno. They are experts in pet care. Though, I have to admit, sometimes I try not to give Bruno the flea meds monthly for fear that the med may endanger his long term health for short term convenience. I compromised and agreed to simply give the med as needed. Now, I have to be especially cautious with Bruno's coat because he is very active and loves to go outdoors offleash. I always check his ears and paws for ticks or fleas. So far he's free from any. He also overcame his allergies after I switch him to raw. The other thing I love about this place is that they let us weigh Bruno everytime we pick up his heartworm or flea meds. That alone is worth hundreds of dollars had I bought my own scale! They're super nice and always greet with a smile! I will always come back! read more

Our cats *love* Dr. Boehnke (pronounced bankee). She is the best cat vet in this town. After our last vet failed yet again on the compassion scale I was searching for a new place for our four cats and occasional TNR effort. I was dubious about the practice - it's not slick, it's not new, it's in a funky shopping center and it doesn't have separate areas for cats and dogs. I have been continually blown away by Century. First off Dr. Boehnke knows cats, she is incredibly smart and patient and if you're one of those pet parents that have to know the science behind a treatment, Dr. Boehnke will patiently explain all the pros and cons and why she might make a recommendation - and no arrogance or judgement on how you manage your herd - she gets that not all cats will sit quietly and let you dose them with multiple foul smelling treatments. Did I mention Dr. Boehnke knows cats? The office staff are absolutely wonderful - every single one of them - kind understanding, knowledgeable. Prices are right in the middle - there is none of that push to buy things that won't work, just downright practical. And when we had to administer antibiotics to one of our most fractious boys, one of the technicians showed us a new way to hold the cat that helped with immobilizing him. Appointments are usually easy to get, waiting room is rarely crowded. I have struggled for years looking for a vet's office that balances compassion with technical strength and have finally found that in Century. read more

After being a customer for over 10 years, I had a puzzling experience that will prevent me from returning. I have been taking two pets to this clinic since 2002 and was told last week that we no longer had a doctor/patient relationship because neither cat had been in the clinic in 2012. Nevermind that I continued to purchase medications and special diet food from them on a regular basis during that time. So, they refused to let me purchase any more medications, or food, or set appointments for either cat. Unbelievable was my only thought. I've never heard of a doctor rejecting a patient on this basis. The only thing I can attribute this to is pure GREED. The doctors here seem genuine, but play the typical games of trying to guilt you into purchasing tests and procedures that your pet probably doesn't need. Other thoughts: The clinic is situated on the corner of William Cannon and IH35 and is a pain to get into and out of. Cars come zooming by the entrance of the clinic so it can be risky to back out of one of their parking spaces. The ladies at the front desk are often curt, so take that for what it's worth. read more

I've been over there twice, both times with a geriatric cat who has constant infections and ongoing health problems. Due to my financial circumstances, I only take her to the vet in a crisis. This last time, it was time to say goodbye. The doctor talked to me at length, helping me make the decision and be sure of it, and allowed me to be present when the sedative was administered. She explained each step of the process, and listened to my concerns with caring and interest. The really great surprise was when I went to pay my bill. In the past, other vets have charged me an office visit, and then separately for each medication used to euthanize the animal. Century simply charged me an office visit charge. They also have a tech who does ceramics, and they take a paw print of the animal. When it has been glazed and fired, they will call to pick it up. I cannot recommend these folks highly enough! They even have a basket for donations to the Capital Area Food Bank in their waiting area. read more

I first met Dr. Boehnke 7 or 8 years ago when she subbed for my usual vet at another clinic. I was impressed by her professionalism and compassionate care of my pet AND me (I was pretty upset about the diagnosis, so I needed comforting too!). Her usual clinic was a lot closer to my house than my regular vet, so when my cat got sick as I was preparing to leave on vacation and I didn't have a lot of time to run him all the way to my usual vet, I just took him over to Dr. Boehnke at her clinic. She and her staff took great care of him and ended up boarding him while I was away. She kept him in a cage in their common treatment area, where he kept her busy with constant conversation as only a Siamese cat can. She's ended up being our fallback vet but don't take that to mean that I have any doubts in her abilities whatsoever! If my regular vet wasn't a close friend, it would be a tough call as to which one to go to; I think really highly of Dr. Boehnke's care, and even just in the last few months, I had my cat back down there because he was sick and it was regular vet's day off. Dr. Boehnke is awesome at coordinating care if there is another vet in the picture, as there is with us, and she's an incredibly knowledgable, compassionate, and skilled vet. read more

We were valued clients for 25 years. We love these ladies. Sadly, Century was bought by PetWell Partners. We were not told. We had to figure it out ourselves as the quality of care slid into the gutter. We found out just how bad it was when we scheduled to euthanize our Labrador. The front desk saw me and gave me meds to help drug our dog on Friday and the same office manager 24 hrs later could not remember who we were. What has happened to this wonderful clinic is sickening. Do not take your pets to Century. You will not feel known much less loved. We did not receive the ceramic paw print we have been given or every animal Century has euthanized. We received a condolence card signed in a big batch to be mailed out without a thought that we knew the techs who remained and the techs who have already quit...one tech who had been with Century from the very beginning. We don't even know if they really cremated our dog or tossed him in the trash. We also have a dog in the Morris Animal Foundation's Lifetime Study for Go,den Retriever. Kelly from the foundation even called the PetWell Partners (they are businessmen, not vets). As I was told, Petwell cares only about money. The Century Animal Hospital that we have always known and loved is. I've had many vets in various places, and while all vets have ranged from "okay" to "pretty good" for me, I've never had one as truly incredible as Century Animal Hospital before. My dog's vet is Dr. Van Brunt, and she's kind and competent. She explains everything out for me, and she discusses cost before treatment without treating me like I'm being an awful pet owner for caring about it. Nearly as important, the office staff and techs have been great too. I've gone to other places where the vet was good but the staff was a pain in the bum to deal with or the vet techs were downright nasty. I have been so happy to experience exactly the opposite at Century. Also, I've been able to get same day call backs and office visits whenever it's mattered. read more

I love, love, love Century Animal Hospital. I've used them for about 15 years - for everything from routine exams, pug nose surgery, puppy ate something, new dog exams, and sadly, the more serious stuff that didn't end like I'd have chosen. They are warm, loving, compassionate, explain everything in great detail and are never in a hurry. My dogs all love going to see them. They see emergencies immediately, but I'm usually able to get in for routine appt's within a day or so. I drive past about 4 good vets in my area to go to them. We routinely use Dr. Holly and Dr. Behnke, but I've seen the other docs and they're all just as wonderful. Great friendly staff, too. read more

Century Animal Hospital, Dr. Lisa Boehnke and Dr. Catherine Nairn have been seeing my pets since 2000. I can't stress enough how fortunate I feel to have found them. Two cats and three dogs later, we've pretty much run the gamut on reasons to see the vet. Our pets have had the best care, and I have always felt that the entire staff knows me, knows my pets, and conveys (and believes!) that my pets are special. I have no idea how the clinic manages to develop that level of familiarity, care and concern for all of their animals and humans, but they do. It's uncommon in any type of practice, and it deserves recognition and deep gratitude. As a few examples, I have never, not once, been rushed out of the examining room. My wait time for an appointment has never been more than 15-20 minutes. When going through crises, the vets have been reachable by phone, and have called to check in on us after our vet visits. Our dogs have absolutely loved Dr. Boehnke, and, while she's super wonderfully great with them, her mystical powers come out with cats. She is a cat whisperer, even with the big, old, grumpy and (normally) growly ones! We've said goodbye to two of our fur kids with Dr. Boehnke, and, as difficult as that experience is, our overall memories are so overwhelmingly positive. Dr. Boehnke cried right along with us. When we recently lost our "best dog in the world," Dr. Boehnke and nurse Cody came to our home because we couldn't travel with him. He greeted them so enthusiastically it (extra) broke our hearts. Simply put, his favorite people were in the room that day, and we could never have asked for anything more. Much, much love, trust and appreciation for Century Animal Hospital, including all doctors, nurses, technicians and desk staff. You've gotta understand after being a vet tech & breeder for 15 years, doing rescues for 30 years I set the bar pretty darn high for a 5 *****. An update to extol the virtues of one Dr. Holly Poremski. She's taken very good care of my boy, Beto. I went to her for his full round of shots and recent sterilization. I was considering going to the low-cost spay and neuter clinic, but since Beto is a Dobie and they sometimes have Von Willebrand's disease, I didn't want to take a chance. There is nothing more difficult then seeing your pet sick. Century Animal Hospital got me into see Dr. C quickly (same day). They were the most kind and supportive staff with my high maintenance and difficult cat. As life goes, I had to have my cat put down the same day I brought him in. The staff here took such great care of making sure I had all the information I needed to get me through the hardest decision any pet owner has to make. They also were so considerate and compassionate during the process and they gave me time and space to grieve and spend some time with my cat before he was put down. The vet and staff at this place are great. Very nice and got me right in. I only gave 3 stars because it was so expensive. $8.50 for a record set up fee? Really? Never heard of this. $121 total. Dog was hacking and gagging. He was treated for nausea. He seemed fine the next day & then day after started again so took him to my regular vet when I got home and paid another $86 for visit, meds - it was a respiratory infection. He did the antibiotics and has been fine since. read more

This is an absolutely fantastic practice!!! I was in medical research my whole professional life, and I've always had great great vets, but these people are absolutely the best!!! The staff is super knowledgeable, compassionate, caring. The vets are one for one absolutely superior (my "home room" vet is Dr. Nairn, but they are all wonderful). My wife and I have used this practice for 15 years, they've seen us through everything, and we just could not be more pleased. We both recommend this practice, every aspect of it, with no reservations at all. An amusing and moving story: my English Springer Spaniel Aries, at 11 years of age, was only one or two days away from being put down because of cancer. I was given by Dr. Nairn the name and number of a vet who makes house calls for euthanasia. As a last ditch effort, Century put him on a medication. Well, I'll tell you!!! He ate a scrap of food the next day, two scraps the next day. That dog had an amazing 3 years of remaining life, and that of exceptionally good quality. He went with us on trips, he stole food from the table, we threw a party for the vets and staff at the one year period, and he went around begging food!!! When the time came almost 3 years later, he went down to a dignified and well-deserved death in my arms *before* he suffered at all. Now they might not want me telling this story, because they are not miracle workers, and they can only do what they can do.
