They offer an experience where you can do tastings, see behind-the-scenes, etc. That will be fun to do if we get a chance to visit again. On our visit, I had the Austin Fizz which was made with the reserve gin and Topo Chico. Hands down, the perfect summertime drink. We're big Negroni fans and my boyfriend had one and wow-wee do they get it right! I can't say enough good things about this place. Upon entry it is very esentric with colors and the decor. They have a huge outdoor patio over looking the trees and landscape for you to enjoy your wine from. The main tasting room is on the smaller side, but it wasn't too busy when I visited so there was plenty of seating. They also had a TV playing the World Cup, which was a nice bonus. There was only one person working that day so he definitely had his hands full. I did have to go up to the counter whenever I was ready to try my next wine, but it actually gave me an opportunity to interact with some of the other guests and spend a little more time exploring the property. The outdoor area was really cute with a small stream running through the property and a designated photo-op area. I also noticed a second building that looked like it could be rented out for parties or weddings, which would be a nice option for events. But let's talk about the wine! My tasting consisted mostly of reds, with the Cabernet Franc being the personal standout for me. Honestly all of the reds were pretty good and the only wine I tried that I didn't particularly care for was the white. For the price point and the convenience of not having to drive all the way out to Fredericksburg, Spicewood Vineyard struck the perfect balance for me for a weekend winery outing. Each tasting felt like a small journey through the Holy Land, with the history, geography, and character of the region thoroughly explained along the way. Another thing I greatly appreciated was not running into the endless bachelorette parties that can ruin the atmosphere at other vineyards with loud entrances, screaming, belligerent drunken rants, and women swinging from the hanging lights like animals. Sometimes you just want to enjoy good wine, good conversation, and actually learn something about what you're drinking. Biblically speaking, Jesus turned water into wine--yes. But He certainly didn't lead by example by getting drunk. Scripture allows wine and speaks of enjoying it with gladness, but drunkenness is another matter entirely. Drinking to be merry is one thing. The porter was good but a bit to heavy for a summer afternoon, so I got the Scotch Ale the first round and the IPA for the second round. The Scotch Ale at 8.0abv comes in a small 10oz pour and the IPA was a full 16oz. In the past the riesling has been my fave wine wise. Both were full flavored and refreshing to drink on the patio with my dog. The service here has always been so friendly. The wine tasting are guided by pros that are well educated about wine. The same for the brewery where they'll give you free tasting cups. The outside country location is so beautiful. Like being on a ranch. Picnic tables, lawn games, and often live music (or at least good music over the speakers). Btw, as a dj myself I wonder if they'd ever like some jazzy house grooves or something on the patio on the weekend? What would that involve to do periodically on an afternoon?
