Based on the other reviews here we were a little underwhelmed. Based off of how long it took us to get our first drink + the quality of the cocktails we only stayed for one and bounced.

However I think the holiday spirit got to him a couple of weeks ago because he took me to Consignment which is one of he and his wife's faves. The name is as it says - the bar doubles as a secondhand store and whatever is on display is for sale. I adored it! The service was awesome - I always love chopping it up with Black bartenders - and the crowd was very very queer. I was legitimately in heaven. So much doesn't feel safe right now - especially with the J6 goon squad running amok in Chicago trafficking people. It was nice to be among my people enjoying great drinks in a buzzy atmosphere. Because we are old, we got there by 730 on a Saturday and surprisingly it was already packed! Patience won the day though and within 45 minutes we snagged some stools against the wall. I had a great time here and hope to return!

Anyone who enjoys both vintage and a tasty libation will love Consignment Lounge! The decor (most…read morefor sale) is outstanding. Some prices were not too bad, but some things were rather costly. While I have so far only been there one time, I would imagine the decor switches often, since it's mostly all for sale. So always something new to see! I got the vibe that many regulars stopped in, as the bartenders were familiar with many faces. The service was excellent, even for us, a couple of first-timers. This bar may not be ideal for large-ish parties, due to how seating is. For instance, we go out often with two other couples, and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable showing up with a group of six, in case they were busy, and we could not all sit together. I failed to ask if they reserve the bigger seating areas, so maybe that is an option. Draft beer folks may be let down, as they seemingly only ever have three taps, with one being seasonal and not noted on the website. Their "lite" beer option is not listed on the website, but rather noted to be posted on-site. Since this place has been on my radar, Son of Juice is constant on the draft beer menu. Worth noting is that they do have a longer list of bottles and cans. I have not tried any of their craft cocktails, but it's not a bad list. Must mention that they have a cool little basket of vintage pins, in case anyone reading this is into those. I found one that was from an annual tractor pull event near Green Bay, WI that I used to attend almost every year when I lived in the area.

We came on a Saturday and sat at the bar to enjoy a variety of menu items. I first got a mezcal drink to start, which was refreshing with the appetizers we got. We had the papaya salad, dan dan noodles, and mushroom butter dumplings off the happy hour menu. We also had the short rib dumplings - both dumplings were so delicious, the mushroom butter dumplings were more creamy/buttery whereas the short rib dumplings had more of a bbq savory taste. The dan dan noodles were saucy and delicious, and the papaya salad was light and refreshing. The poached prawns were also tasty and refreshing, and the bulgogi steak was definitely our favorite dish with excellent korean flavors and tender juicy pieces of steak. The potato pave was a nice tasty side to it as well. I'm so glad I finally got to try this cute spot and had an excellent meal!

But not so good the second & third times, almost everything else I tried to order was always 86d, the drinks were overly sweet to the point of cloying for me (not a sweet drink person), and then I tried to give them one last chance to wow me with gorgeous fried cheese sticks and I walked up to the door as they were putting the "temporarily closed for renovations" sign on the door, the dude hanging it told me they be open the following week...and that was 9 months ago. My love and I each chose a Revolution draft beer, and were a bit taken back that the total tab was a shade over $20 for our two beers. Frankly with the lack of ambience at this neighborhood dive bar attempting to be a sports bar or a hip downtown-ish establishment, it was a bit uncomfortable sitting at the bar.
