It's the pizza and it is also more than just the pizza. If you've been following this place since it's inception.... Well you know it's been quite a journey. Normally that would mean cutting corners... Maybe not having the full realization of your vision. It really is inspiring to see how Mooney's didn't compromise. No corners cut. Is the pizza good? Absolutely. My kids ATE THE CRUST. (If you, you know). But beyond the pizza it's clear the focus and attention are on every touch. It could/would have been easier to do less. But Mooney didn't do that, and they should be celebrated for this. It's almost impossible to know what a restaurant is going to turn into. But I know what Mooney's is right now: it's a place to come and enjoy a great meal. A great beer. A great wine. It's taking a part of our community that was completely dead and bringing life to it. That is to be celebrated and supported. So go to Mooney's eat the pizza, have a beer or a wine and celebrate the fact that we can still build amazing things and that community can come around and support it. Short review: Food's great! Amazing experience here! The restaurant sits in a plaza so there plenty of parking. The inside has a number of tables from a 2 top to 4+ top (yes that means they can accommodate large parties). Staff - the staff was super nice. Abby was my server for a bit and she gave me some great recommendations! Everyone seems on the younger side so please be patient with them as I'm sure a good portion of the workers are just getting into the work force. The food - I had the pineapple pizza with al pastor and holy crap it was bomb. I'm normally not a fan of pineapple pizza but the al pastor put it on a whole other level. The meatballs were great as well. Slight heat to it with a pepper taste. The buffalo wings were tender and full of flavor. If you're looking for your next neighborhood pizza spot, this is it. I had a 4:15 reservation, the restaurant was packed upon my arrival - amazing considering it opens at 4 pm. Our server was very friendly. We ordered the fancy cheese pizza, Caesar salad, orange wine, and the lager. The pizza was delicious! The crust was light and airy texture. The drink selection was great. My only gripe was that the Caesar salad was very underwhelming. For $13 it was pretty small and there were pieces of lettuce that had started turning pink which tells me it's starting to go bad. I feel like the kitchen could have at least picked these pieces out. Overall it was a good experience and we will be returning without ordering a salad. read more

Got a last minute reservation for 4 people on a Friday night. Was seated promptly in a booth. Service was very attentive and helped us with any questions we had. The double pepperoni pizza was on point and was more than enough to feed 3 people. My son opted for the burger and enjoyed that a lot too. Went for a side of ranch and hot honey which was perfect with the pizza. Beer options were solid. Got a passport for the bucket list beers so I'll be coming back to enjoy more great draft offerings. The frozen custard options were lemon and pistachio. The lemon wasn't very intense while the pistachio was overly so but both had great flavor. Will definitely be bringing the family back. Overall, a great first experience! I've been waiting for this place to open. Finally got our chance to try it out. Here's my thoughts: Food - Very good. We had the Squeekers(fried cheese curds), Caesar salad, wings, and two pizzas (pepperoni cups and fancy cheese). All were excellent, maybe a little deduction to the cheese curds (a couple pieces were lukewarm). Ambiance - love the vibe. As a 80s/90s kid I was excited that this brought me back. They had Rampage and Burgertime, however they weren't working when we went. Service - Not bad. Our server was very attentive. A couple other notes before you go: -As is just opened, it's very busy and loud. -They should have curtains (or use them if they're already installed). I was there last night with my husband and 2 kids for opening weekend. The Service was 100% AMAZING. My 2 year old daughter was having a moment (or multiple moments I should say) not being her best, but the waitress was ALWAYS so incredibly kind. Her attention felt absolutely genuine. She made me feel at ease and gave so much sweet attention to my daughter in-spite of my daughter being fuzzy. I honestly can't remember the last time I felt this well taken care of anywhere in the last couple years. I always appreciate having that extra attention to detail when I go out to eat, but when that positive attention is given to my kids, it's beyond anything I could ever ask for. I was looking forward to trying this place out ever since I saw their sign go up, and even more so when seeing all the videos/reviews on Instagram. Finally made reservations to celebrate our kids' getting awards at school. I read a few reviews on Yelp before going, just so I could get a feel on where my expectations would be. There were a few mixed reviews, but the ones that stood out were the lack of customer service (I figured, they're new and super busy...I can forgive that), and that a lot of dishes would run out (again, they're new and busy, it's bound to happen, especially if they don't over produce...again, forgivable). We are the first party to arrive before the doors open. Nothing should go wrong, right? We will have the servers attention since it's not busy, and the whole menu will be available since they just opened. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Our waitress was attentive, but when it came time to taking my order, I was told that what I wanted was unavailable. The way my heart broke... I specifically wanted to go to Mooney's for their Pineapple Al Pastor pizza that I kept seeing online, and it was not available. The waitress said she believed they were out of the sauce. I told her I waited two weeks to try it and asked her to come back for my order since I wasn't prepared to get anything else. I end up sharing the double pep with my husband (4.5 stars). Kids and parents got custom pizzas (4 stars), we ordered the cheese curds (5 stars), family Ceasar (3 stars-lettuce was not fresh), and French fries (5 stars). Later, one of the Mooney's (Peter?) came by to check on our table to check on us. I did tell him I specifically came for the Pineapple pizza and he apologized and said they were out of the Al Pastor. I thought with my disappointment, maybe he'd throw in a free app or even a dessert (which I honestly thought the kids would get since the reservation asked our reason for celebrating). I just think it's ridiculous to already be out of something before opening. Especially a popular menu item. I worked in the restaurant business so I get if a supplier doesn't deliver. But guess what we would do when that happened? We'd go out and get the stuff ourselves. You guys open at 4pm. My partner and I are big foodies, and I especially love pizza, so we were excited to finally check out Mooney's. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server was friendly and attentive. The only downside was the noise level in the area where we were seated -- there were several large groups and the music was pretty loud, so we found ourselves having to raise our voices just to hear each other. Our table was also placed in a corner but pushed halfway into the walkway, which made the layout feel a bit awkward. Next time, I'd definitely ask to sit on the patio since it looked much more comfortable. For appetizers, we ordered the cheese curds and the BBQ wings. The cheese curds were delicious, especially with the pesto ranch, but the portion felt very small even for two people sharing. The wings were fine but nothing memorable -- I'd probably skip them and try a different pizza instead. We shared a pepperoni pizza with ricotta and jalapeños. The crust was excellent and the overall flavor was great. My only critique is that most of the toppings were concentrated in the center, which made the middle of the pizza soggy compared to the nicely crisp crust. If I had to describe the food at Mooney's in one word, it would be underwhelming. I will leave service out since it is a new restaurant and openings bring challenges. We ordered the double pepperoni pizza, pineapple pizza, squeakers, wings, and a salad. Nothing stood out. The pizza was not bad, but it tasted like the type you find at any average neighborhood pizzeria. The flavors felt flat and the crust came out undercooked. The meatballs were the one dish I enjoyed. They had some heat, which I liked, but people who dislike spice might want to skip them. The biggest issue was the price. Everything felt expensive for the quality. They also charge for things like ranch and hot honey. Two dollars for a small portion felt excessive, and the hot honey tasted like regular honey. The space looks great and I want local Long Beach restaurants to succeed. I will give them another shot in a few months and hope the food improves. read more

What an amazing pizza place! For sixty years, Huffs was on the corner and now Mooneys. Delicious! Worth the wait. We got the warm olives, cheese curds, pepperoni pizza and vanilla custard. All were delicious! The table next to us tried the Calabrian bread and liked it. We heard talk about the Brussels being amazing! A good beer makes everything better! I'm very mixed with this review. Family & I were very excited to try & support this new pizza place. We even dedicated an hour to wait on the waitlist in-person on a weeknight. Our appetizers came out extremely fast & fresh. Pizzas took over an hour because we were told they had over cooked & burned. The restaurant did try to make things right but after waiting over 2 hours for some pizza, the family's patience was running very thin and kids were getting restless and agitated at this point. The pizza finally arrived and the pizzas were on-point IMO. I thought the pizzas were very good but the wait time was ridiculous and then to be told that it was going to be an additional 30min after we've been waiting over 2hours already, it was just unacceptable.. After we finally received our long awaited food, we were basically forgotten about. No one came around to check on us for anything else like refills or anything. At the end, we received our bill, no itemized bill, just a total amount due on an electronic device. I guess we were just supposed to trust our faithful waitress charged us correctly for everything we were being charged. I can't help to think why our family was ignored and received such horrible service, but it did appear that my family and I were the only Hispanic/Interracial group in the restaurant. Nowadays, I can't help but to think that we received such terrible service perhaps due to the fact that we were not "Real Americans" or the "Right Type of Americans"?? Ordered a double pepperoni add pineapple to go. Person that took my order put in my order made a mistake and I got a pineapple pizza. No big deal. Just have to wait a little longer. Bailey the manager definitely made up for the mistake. Refunded my pizza 100% offered me free beers, soda and appetizers while I waited. Honestly, probably the best pizza I've ever had we got the pan pizza and dig it up with double pepperoni, the ricotta foam and hot honey, and it was absolutely incredible. The cheese curds were amazing as well! You can tell they use super high-quality ingredients. The service was great. Our waiter was super friendly and I chatted with the owner and he was very nice as well.! they have lots of beers on tap. Another notable thing was how clean the place was.
