    Chicken bowl
    Inverleith F.

With a great food program at the office via "fooda" we are able to experience a great variety of local businesses. Today I chose moonbowls and their chicken bowl. At first glance, the bowl is colorful and portioned well. At second glance, I'm disappointed to have canned corn during the summer and to not have any char on the broccoli. The chicken was tasty and tender which is a must for me, and the light sauce was good. It was more like a vinegrette than a BBQ sauce. Rice was cooked perfectly and topped with some green onions. Oh, and the jammy egg! I love me a jammy egg mixed with the rice and chicken! It's a perfect bite. Overall, I would order this again and will continue to support local businesses. Give them a try!

I was so surprised by this place! we ordered lunch for work and my food was so good even after waiting until I had time to eat it. I got the spicy chicken bowl and it was still crispy. the spicy pineapple was amazing! the fresh salad was a nice balance for the spicy sauce. i would love to come back!

Ordered via doordash. So tasty, large portions and took the guesswork out of me figuring out a healthy meal. Great

I ordered two Korean chicken bowls here since there was a BOGO offer on Uber Eats but I was so disappointed with the quality of the food. Luckily we got the by one get one free offer because I wouldn't pay this much for such a tiny bowl. The pictures in some reviews look like there was a lot given, so I wondered if we were purposely given less because this was an uber eats order that had a bogo offer. I literally ate both bowls in one sitting. The food looked pretty well presented when we got it, but once we pushed aside the toppings, there was barely any rice there. The caramelized onions were extremely mushy and gross, so we threw them out. The citrus marinated kale was literally just regular kale and had no flavor. The chicken was very crunchy on the outside and the coating had some flavor, but was very dry on the inside without much flavor.

Moonbowls is Korean cuisine in delicious food bowls! Moonbowls has opened a ghost kitchen in the Longfellow Food Pickup in North Oakland. It's menu offers appetizers, bowls, desserts and drinks. On a Tuesday evening, I ordered a Chicken and Egg Bowl, with sesame tofu, green onions and seaweed added. My base of choice was brown rice. Okay, usually when I order a food bowl, the "base" is over 50% of the bowl. So in this case, I was expecting a big bowl of brown rice with the toppings covering it. Not so at Moonbowls! The food bowl was mainly the mixture of food I asked for, and the brown rice was hard to find. I had to stir it up to find the rice. The Chicken and Eggs Bowl is just that.....diced moist chicken and a fried egg on top. All kinds of good stuff like...."charred peppers, cucumber slaw, caramelized onions, a fried egg, fresh arugula, basil, green onions, sesame seeds, our sweet Korean BBQ sauce, and a side of gochujang sauce." However, it's not a huge bowl of food, but it's good healthy food. Especially if you're watching your carbs. Their website says "they're taking a fresh approach to Korean cuisine thru chef driven food bowls using high quality ingredients and bold flavors." Yes, Moonbowls does all that. Would I order again? Yes, if I'm in the area. Located at the Longfellow Food Pickup, which is a Cloud Kitchens facility. I used the Doordash app for a food pickup. Food was ready in 15 mins. Simply walk in the lobby, tell them your name and the restaurant, and they hand you your order. You save $$$ by picking up your order, and you know that food will be hot & fresh when you get it. Enjoy, and Support Local Business!

TL;DR - good portion, poor quality food. See pic for burnt corn. Ordered from here since I was looking for something light & healthy, and saw the BOGO on Uber eats. Saw the bad reviews on both Yelp and Google... but decided to give it a try since I liked the idea of this place being a healthier version of Chipotle. I ordered: sweet chicken kimchi, and Korean hot chicken. Portions were large! As you can see from the photo. The bowls were fill to the lid. The sauce on the sweet chicken kimchi was not to my liking. Too sweet and watery. the chicken was very dry. The rest of the bowl tasted fine tho. Now the really sad part.... The corn in the Korean hit chicken bowl. The corn was so burnt it was BLACK. Practically pieces of cancer. On a bed of kale, I didn't notice at first and took a bite. Had to rush to the sink and spent the next 10 minutes rinsing out the charcoal taste in my mouth. I cannot believe someone would let food burn to this state, much less scooped it up and put in a bowl. It effectively ruined the entire dish and made it inedible. Even after throwing out a good portion where the corn was, the burnt charcoal taste was still in the rest of the food. Really really poor quality control. I hate wasting food, but I had to toss the entire bowl. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're just looking to take advantage of the Ubereats offer.

We had been to Tarocco for lunch and figured we would ask them for a quote, too. My daughter warned me that the owner is trying to be an "influencer" on Instagram and posts photos of herself in crop Tops so I should beware, but that's fine by me. We called to get a quote and had a discussion. After we gave the owner all of our information, she told us she wouldn't give us a quote unless we came in person (?!) Which is weird because this isn't how restaurants work. Typically for events restaurants will give you a quote via phone or email for the sake of convenience. We had gotten 3 quotes already from other restaurants via phone. Making us drive 45 mins just to get a quote is a total waste of time. Especially if we can't afford it. So my daughter called again, left a VM explaining we couldn't come in person due to time constraints, and again asked for a quote. No reply. We waited a few days and called again. No reply. Finally we got a voicemail from the owner saying that she didn't like my daughter's attitude ?!!! Apparently you're not allowed to ask this restaurant how much they charge for events unless you're face to face. This lady has absolutely no idea how to run a restaurant. We took our business elsewhere and recommend that you do, too.

There's quite a love story behind the making of this bread and business. You get a glimpse of it with every bite. Toasting is necessary. I made the mistake of eating the bread straight from the bag and regretted that I had bought very expensive sawdust. I tried different toasting times to see how the texture and taste evolved and what a revelation! I prefer lightly toasting the sandwich rolls intact so that the center remains slightly cool to the touch. Over-toasting makes the rolls mushy on the inside and muddles the flavors. I then dip in olive oil. Srsly hvnly. Mother's Market, my closest option in Socal, carries an excellent selection.

I'm not sure what kind of GF bread some people are used to, but this just was not good. That's an understatement! The loaf size is tiny and very dense. Every time I sliced it, my knife ended up coated in gummy residue, which makes me think it was undercooked and possibly under-proofed. It also absolutely requires toasting. Eating it straight from the bag is not possible. The cinnamon raisin bread had maybe 1-2 raisins per slice. What frustrates me most is that I spent $85 for 6 loaves (including shipping), and I ended up throwing every single one away. Such a waste and such a disappointment. For now, I'll be sticking with Carbonaut GF bread until I finally find a gluten-free loaf that actually delivers on texture and flavor. BTW: the photo shows a slice of Carbonaut GF next to the Bread Seriously loaf for comparison.

Every single element was delicious and flavorful. I highly recommend everything I got. It was my perfect bowl! My boyfriend chose: - jasmine rice - paprika chicken - charred broccoli - chimichurri mushrooms - pickled onions - jalapeño lime dressing His bowl was also so delicious. I also like that this location has longer business hours than most GF bakeries and serves breakfast all day as well as lunch items. Another big plus is the allergens are clearly labeled online and in the shop. However, I've had negative experiences here on 3 consecutive visits. I go here for my gluten free partner. On one of the visits, I ordered a stuffed bagel and waited for 15 minutes before going back up to the counter to say that I still hadn't received my order. It was busy, but by this time, the person standing at the counter had nothing to do. They apologized and made my order then, but the experience left a bad impression on me since it was my first time eating inside the bakery. On my next visit, I ordered several items inside the bakery to take home with my pickup order and received a pain de chocolate instead of a cinnamon donut, which I didn't notice until I got home. The pain de chocolate costs more and my partner wasn't able to share it with me due to a soy allergy. I suppose I could've been paying more attention, but these items don't have similar names at all, so I was not expecting this error. That said, I made a mental note to pay more attention when ordering inside the bake shop for future orders. On my next visit, I ordered a mocha cupcake and berry muffin, but the cashier rang me up for a hand pie instead of a muffin. Again, the hand pie was more expensive. This time I caught it and asked for it to be corrected. I work in customer service and I act with kindness when mistakes are made because we're only human. However, I believe 3 negative experiences in a row shows a pattern and warrants some attention. I will continue to patronize this business due to the reasons I mentioned at the beginning of this review, but I will now have to be vigilant in ensuring that I receive the correct items and am charged the correct amount. This of course is not ideal. I hope service improves.

I could tell how chill the space was the moment I walked in. The staff was so calm it was unnerving. I was already being an anarchist and asked if they made an iced coffee. After a momentary hesitation, he came back with a $4 Iced Coffee with a tiny pitcher of extra coffee (Photo 8). It was quite refreshing with a layer of foam on top. I then had the unmitigated gall to ask if they did half-orders of their vegan momos. This time the chef couldn't do it, so I ordered the $15.99 Tofu Curry (Photo 9). I turned out to be the wise choice because it came out pretty quick. Medium soft cubes of tofu were mixed with fresh spinach in a tasty curry with spinach. The bowls came with veggies, brown rice + quinoa, and our protein of choice. I thought that the bowl tasted very fresh and healthy. My bf felt like it was not as flavorful as he would have preferred. The curry sauce was on the thinner side, but I still felt that it had a good taste! Maybe not as flavorful as curry from a thai restaurant, though. All of the components in the bowls worked really well together, and the meal felt very balanced. I liked that this is the type of place that you never have to worry about what is being put in your food. The ingredients are very fresh and straightforward, which is great if you are health conscious. The staff member was very polite and the food came out pretty quickly. If you like hot sauce, I'd definitely ask to their house hot sauce! It's got a nice kick to it, as well as a slightly smokey flavor. The restaurant is very cute and cozy. Overall, if you are looking for a quick, healthy, and nutritious meal in berkeley, this is a great option! I think I'd like to try the miso healthy bowl next time.

Customize as you like--i wanted less rice and more veg and that's what they gave me. Stir fried rice was solid too. Not a date spot, but quick tasty food.

Not that there was anything wrong with that as they make solid Indian food there (review: https://bit.ly/3ipWnWB). But does that make them experts at lasagna? Not really as I ordered the $16.95 Mushroom Lover Mac Vegan presuming it would be lasagna. and what arrived was nothing Italiano but more a baked macaroni (photo: https://bit.ly/3GVjbqy). Not that there was anything wrong with that except when your mouth is ready for lasagna, you don't really want to digest mac n' cheese. I could've bought something cheaper at Safeway, but at least it was filling. What did help, however, was the $5.96 Vegan Fudge Brownie which did bring me unequivocal joy and a buttload of calories (photo: https://bit.ly/3ix0IXS). Speaking of which, I should just get off my butt and bake my own lasagna. FOOD - 3 stars...it was good but it wasn't a lasagna AMBIANCE - n/a...it was a delivery order...looks like the operation has since moved to the former Venus space on Shattuck SERVICE - 3.5 stars...well, it was well packed TOTAL - 3 stars...gee, if you have a hankering for macaroni RELATED - Exploring Berkeley?
