Every thing was really good from the ambience to the service to the food. I would encourage everyone to try the durian dessert. It's delicious and unique. The passion fruit granita sets off the creamy durian mousse beautifully. read more

Moon Rabbit is one of the rare DC restaurants that deserves its excellent reputation. How refreshing it is to have such great food of a different cuisine type than the standard Italian that is all too common in DC. Superb service (if a bit too eager-to-please) and tasty, elegant food thoughtfully described is a rarity in DC. Its desserts are also superb. It is, of course, extremely expensive to dine here, but worthwhile. read more

Moon Rabbit 2.0 pop up. Food was interesting. It wasn't bad but every dish tasted like it was missing something. I think I was looking for more Vietnamese flavors and the dishes I had didn't quite meet the mark. I had the cruel summer as my drink. It was a rather small, ice heavy drink but it was absolutely delicious (more on drinks below). I had the Mi Carbonara and the Mussels. Mussels were an interesting experience. I can't say I loved them but they were good and a creative dish. Mi carbonara was my main dish. This is more like what I was looking for, but somewhat disappointed. Each bite had a really magnificent immediate flavor that diminished once I began to chew. It was okay, though for the price I think I could have gotten a meatier dish at a traditional Asian restaurant. Now the drinks...so I ordered one drink. One of the waiters then walked by and asked if I would like another drink I said no he said it was on the house and not to worry. I said okay in that case sure. My second cruel summer was also delicious! As I was paying for my meal, the tab was what I expected but then the host said wait a moment and came back and added the second drink. I didn't argue about it because I was annoyed and just paid for it all. This place has a 22% service charge...so this drink that I thought was free ended up being an extra $15+22% + 10% DC tax. The meal I had for one cost $100 and some change and included something I consumed but didn't order. Interesting place. I'm glad I gave it a shot. It satisfied my hunger, but I don't think I will return because I wasn't impressed by food quality and the price was atrocious. My waiter was very kind and personable and I had no issue with the service minus the fake free drink offer. read more

wanted to try something different. I ordered the pork chop. The salad had a spicy seed on it that was very very spicy. It made my eyes water. The porkchop was good. The rice was bland. I tried my coworkers rabbit. It was good. I also tried someone at the tables gnocci that was not good at all. It had the consistency of a raw oyster. read more

I didn't like the food here. The portions were small, the food didn't taste good to me, and the prices were quite high for the experience. I liked the waiter and the service, but the dish I had was definitely something I could have done without. For 35 dollars, I would have preferred a better meal. read more

Overhyped and under delivered. Tried the roll, cake, eel, leaf and all awful. Would not recommend attending

Best restaurant in DC. Everything was so good that my boyfriend and I still think about and try to find "special occasions " to go back. We did the chef tasting menu and loved all dishes. Truly an experience. I don't even like lamb and I loved the beet/lamb dish. read more

In a curious pop-up space filled with cafeteria style acoustics and lighting, the culinary team brings intimacy to the table with shareable plates that hold delicate, secret, impressive flavors. The only drawback of our meal was that we weren't more hungry. The wagyu skewered on lemongrass showcases the sweetness of the cut while getting the right hints of salt and typically overpowering flavors of chili and pineapple, framed with a yogurt palate cleanser. Every element on the plate yields a dish greater than the sum of its parts The sea scallop crudo is nothing short of the toil of perfectionism. Every oft criticism of its components is masterfully overcome and each bite is a journey: toasted cumin brings an immediate earthiness that grounds the sweet, buttery taste and texture of the scallops, which rest on a Tom Yum cream and avocado mousse brings a demure and airy umami with fleeting hints of crushed, flaky salt. And as the flavors come together in a powerful amalgamation, the red onion and crispies (popped quinoa?) reset your palate for the next bite. Consider this the art gallery show of dining: bring all your senses and enjoy a thoughtfully curated experience. read more

So good! The space is beautiful and the service was great. I had the Tasting Menu and it did not disappoint. I have added Moon Rabbit to my DC favorite restaurants list and I will definitely be back. read more

I had dinner at Moon Rabbit with two friends who were excited about a really different dining experience. We tried a variety of dishes (each serving was very small) and overall would give mixed reviews. One glaring problem was that my friend with severe nut allergies requested a dish prepared without nuts. When served, I asked point blank "Are there nuts in this?" Yes! The waiter turned white, and took it back to the kitchen; it was replaced at no charge on our bill. But can you imagine calling the ambulance in the middle of an expensive dinner? They claim to have outstanding customer service. This wasn't it. read more

We did the tasting menu at moon rabbit. $69 per person. It was a great experience, with so many great flavors in each dish. Amazing service, very helpful staff. I enjoyed the presentation of each dish. Chic decor with relaxed vibes. The drinks were original and yummy. read more

"What would Vietnamese cuisine look like in a fine bistro?" I shouldn't expect too much. The menu is a three-course meal (excluding the two appetizers: mantou and fried dumplings). Natchitoches Meat Pie: Southeast Asian-flavored fried dumplings served with pomelo sauce. Ube Mantou: The chef specifically mentioned when serving that the mantou wasn't made with ube. The whole appetizer felt very casual (the taste was like something pre-made). Crispy Pork Belly: The first bite was okay, but the fat-to-meat ratio was too high, making it extremely greasy, and the fishy smell wasn't handled well. Even the oil-vinegar dressing and sweet potato puree couldn't cut through the greasiness. Bánh Bèo: Tasted somewhat like a deconstructed pork dumpling. Bò Né: The offal had an overwhelmingly strong fishy smell, likely because it was left sitting for a while before being served. The meat was also cold. It was so bad that I left a lot of it uneaten, hoping the chef would reflect on it when it was sent back to the kitchen. Chicken Presse: No comment on this one. Stone Fruit: Overly sweet chocolate sauce paired with two tasteless strawberry slices and a bit of chocolate shavings. There was no improvement in texture, no flavor contrast, no taste, and no creativity--it was just bad. Chè: An unattractive but not terrible Vietnamese ice dessert. The combination of cheap jelly flavor and spiced ice cream was okay and not overly sweet. By the way, the drinks were also bad. Hello： was okay; tomato：was extremely bad. - The service was decent, except at the beginning when they didn't help pour water, and they didn't clear the paper on the table, so we ended up serving ourselves. - The atmosphere was alright, quite cheerful, and the servers liked to hum. You need to make a reservation in advance, as there aren't many seats available. The bar also offers dining. read more

We had a fantastic time at Moon Rabbit! The service was excellent and the staff went above and beyond to make sure that we had an amazing dining experience. I really appreciated how knowledgeable the servers were about dietary restrictions and they were able to talk in detail about which items could be made gluten free, which were subject to cross contamination, etc. We ordered the squid boudin, sweet potato & crab, and cumin lamb and everything was great. The sweet potato & crab was my favorite. Our server even brought out a complimentary (gluten free) crepe cake at the end of our meal for the birthday we were celebrating! Would highly recommend if you're looking for a unique upscale dining experience! Will definitely be back! read more

Moon Rabbit - Vietnamese Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

We had been to their former location and were so excited to finally visit in their new place. The food was excellent, but the service is worthy of a post of its own. My husband and I took along our 1.5YO at the earliest reservation spot, our first time at a fine dining restaurant with a LO in tow. The first thing I noticed were the high chairs - comfortable and luxe, and not some crummy wooden afterthought that's uncomfortable. He even got his own little toddler play plate and silverware (rabbit themed, of course), and when he started to get fussy our waiter brought him a fruit squeezy pack from the Chef and a little toy. The thoughtfulness of the staff and Chef was outstanding, and so kind and attentive. It can be anxiety-inducing taking a little one out to a fine dining place as parents, but they made us feel right at ease. read more

Everything about our dining experience was incredible. We went for a birthday and the staff treated wonderfully right off the start. The restaurant is gorgeous-- three different rooms with stunning decor. We ordered the tasting menu and the portions were huge and kept coming. Every course was terrific-- the flavors were so varied and unique. Drinks were also delicious, and the dessert options (the tasting menu had four with the special birthday dish!) was especially beautiful and tasty. read more

I am giving it 4 stars because the food was good but the service left much to be desired. We have frequented both the old and new moon rabbit and we believe the chef is extremely talented and the flavors are unique. We hope the restaurant improves on its timing as their food is worthy. The shrimp was the best item on the menu. It comes with two pieces. We did ask the waiter how many and he said 4/5 and he was incorrect but it was tasty anyways. The scallop crudo and crab rangoon deconstructed was also very good apps. The squash was the star of the appetizers. We would skip on the risotto with yam as it had too much of a balasamicy taste for us and was not something we enjoyed. The sweet potato and crab was also very interesting and tasty. The monk fish barbecued was good but the leaf wrapped wagyu and cumin lamb was more of a crowdpleaser at our table. For dessert we enjoyed a lovely dessert with coconut like a panna cotta. Now for the bad, however, we believe the restaurant is lacking in some tweaks that separate it from us being able to give it a better star due to service and timing. We made a reservation for 4 for 8:15 this past Friday and were initially told it would be 10/15 min behind. There was no place to sit or have a drink at a bar so we had to go to another place nearby to have a drink. When we returned, we were told it would be another 15 minutes. We did not get a notification until 9:00 that our table was ready, 45 minutes later. We didn't receive any justification besides they were late. We also received no complimentary item or snack which typically when a restaurant is that late you would. We ordered two bottles of wine and multiple items amongst 4 people and our bill was over $400 so you would have thought maybe they would do something to make up for their lack of timing. read more

We visited for restaurant week dinner. It was a group of 4 of us and we had an 8pm reservation. We weren't seated until close to 845 but as an apology they gave us all a glass of champagne. Service was spectacular. The food was delicious. The one down side was how small the servings were. For the price $65 I hoped to go home and be satisfied with everything. We were still hungry by the end of it. The flavors of everything was really out of this world though read more

Amazing, interesting food and delicious drinks!! The service was friendly but slightly frantic, but I think this was their first full week after restaurant week(s). The ambiance was neat but not stuffy. For the four of us, we ordered 16 total dishes to share so we could taste a variety from the menu. I'd say this isn't a place to share dishes, so next time I'd order 4-5 plates per person. Overall, I had an excellent experience and am looking forward to next time! read more

I had been looking forward to trying Moon Rabbit for months and was oddly underwhelmed here. The service is wonderful so that alone would be five stars - our server was enthusiastic and attentive, the dishes were well-timed and when I didn't like my first cocktail they switched it out (my second was delicious). However of the six dishes we had only one of them really impressed me (the most simple dish we ordered, the stuffed beef leaf) and while items are sourced or influenced by Vietnam I really didn't taste many of the flavors that I love so much from the country. The decor also confused me with more Japanese elements than Vietnamese, not to mention the Taylor Swift. I wish I could say I liked it more here as there is clearly a lot of thought and attention being put in but the meal did not match that for me. read more

This is for sure NOT PHO people! Fantastic dinner. Great cocktail, lovely wine selection, comfortable yet elegant ambiance, top notch service.... And the food! Definitely go with the chef's tasting menu. You get to taste a nicely planned variety and well worth $69 pp. Let go and follow whatever Chef Susan Bae and the team have planned. Worth trying if you liked the old location at the Wharf. Best dishes are From the Land, Squash, and Roasted Sunchokes. Less impressed with From the Sea and Desserts. Service was attentive; I appreciate that they changed plates and utensils between courses. Recommended: Squash Roasted Sunchokes Stuffed Leaf Pate Chaud Cumin Lamb Friend Quail and Tomato Rice OK: Rice Cakes Shrimp Thermidor (comes with 2 pieces of shrimp) Not Recommended: Risotto - too watery, more like congee Crab Rangoon - deconstructed version with bowl of cream cheese and 2 big chips Sweet Potato and Crab - not traditional gnocchi BBQ Monkfish - fish overcooked Desserts (except Curry Ca Ri cake) read more

I'm not super happy to put this rating in given that the original moon rabbit on the wharf was a restaurant that stood out to me. I went during restaurant week, which may be different than their normal service. I had the waygu beef, the chicken and the mango dessert. I think the best item was the dessert and the bread service they provide. The cocktails were interesting and delicious, however you couldn't go off menu, they only had the drinks on the menu. Overall, I'd give this place a try again since the chef is a good cook. He also was very friendly and came over to our table multiple times. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at Moon Rabbit by Kevin Tien, and it was an absolute culinary journey! Plus, the cocktail pairings were spot-on, perfectly complementing the bold flavors of the food. The problem is not the food, but the mandatory 22% service fee and the "option" to tip on top of that for "excellent service." I know many other restaurants have jumped on this trend to subsidize their poor management (or greed). Pay a decent wage and raise the price of the food, instead of these games. Let people tip for service, period. read more

excellent food with amazing service, incredible drinks, and overall a beautiful environment 10/10

One of the best meals I've had in a long time! My favorite dishes were the Purple Yam Risotto and the Crab Rangoons. We tried three desserts - the mango chili mousse, the panna cotta, and the passion fruit crepe cake. All were amazing but the panna cotta blew me away. Chef Kevin Tien also served us a dish and we were starstruck! Very nice restaurants can often give off a corporate upscale vibe, but this one felt so homey and comforting. Probably the best service I've ever had in DC! read more

Honestly very good flavors but the wow factor was not here for me. They need to bring back the whole fried chicken like they had at the wharf. I also feel like the portions were bigger at the wharf as well which definitely added to my enjoyment. Bottom line is definitely not as good as it once was at the wharf, and KEVIN TIEN, PLEASE BRING BACK THE FRIED CHICKEN. IT WAS THE BEST THING I'D EVER TASTED, PLEASE LET ME FEEL THAT HAPPINESS AGAIN. Dined here on June 6, 2025. Service and ambience are excellent. The food is good, but not great. Many of the dishes were overly salty. Some interesting cocktails. Glad we tried it but would not go again--much better Vietnamese food in the DC area for a fraction of the price. read more

When a restaurant upon arrival wants all orders for the night up front ( for 4 people) and it's a small plate restaurant which is very expensive, no matter how good the food the strong marketing tactic leaves a bad taste in my mouth. So much hype but the food was disappointing. Too much going on in each dish making the overall flavors muddled. Textures were monotonously soft and chewy. Service was attentive and helpful.
