Well, well, well, Lexington food scene - you've impressed me. During a short trip to Lex I did a Yelp search for vegan food and Moody Mike's came up (and for good reason!). This delightful, unassuming cafe/stationary food truck offers an entirely plant based menu of comfort food, quick bites, and desserts (if you can get them before they're gone). The owners are super nice and very willing to expand on ingredients and preparation methods for the menu options. After much consideration we ordered the Chi'ken Sando (crispy chicken with lettuce, tomato, pickles), Buffalo Chi'ken Fry's (crinkle cut fries topped with buffalo and ranch, crispy chicken, and a sprinkle of cheese), and the 6 piece wings with half tarter sauce and half Caribbean jerk. I loved the complexity of the jerk sauce and my dining companion preferred the tarter sauce, so the half and half wings worked out perfectly. The fries - delicious and expertly prepared, however I learned I lean toward a less spicy/tangy sauce than buffalo, and would have preferred cheese sauce rather than shreds on top. Pricing is very reasonable for high quality, made to order, plant based cuisine, and there is shaded outdoor seating as well as tables inside the cafe. Moody Mike's - you have a new fan. I came with one of my friends that enjoys vegan food. I personally have never really dabbled too much in vegan food and it was definitely an experience. I really enjoyed the chicken wings. The buffalo flavor was really great and it was so crazy how much it looked like a chicken wing. I also ordered some Jamaican jerk eggrolls, and that was amazing. The sauce was so perfect and a little spicy. I also had to try their chili cheese fries. I ordered a half order and that was enough for me. It was very filling very hearty and delicious. The seating area is a little small on the inside where it is winter but in the spring and summer, it would be beautiful to sit outside on their benches. It looks very chic and aesthetic. I can't wait to come back in the warmer weather and the service was very quick and easy you order at the food truck and you can sit inside and wait for your food to come out. They also have a café that's open until 2 PM where you can order coffee on the inside which I thought was pretty neat. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy vegan food. read more

What a great find! I looked for vegan restaurants in Lexington and Moody Mike's was within walking distance of our Airbnb. So much to choose from, so we went with the owner's recommendations on the burgers. Both were absolutely delicious! We had to try the totchos too, and between the burgers and the tots, we had a hard time finishing our food -- the portions are huge, despite the reasonable price. Was in town visiting and found this food truck. I had the 10 piece wings (Bourbon BBQ, Caribbean Jerk, Detroit Hot Homey, and Hot) and a chopped cheese. The wings were so good; each sauce held up on its own. These also reheated great in the air fryer the next day. After following Moody' Mike's on IG for a long while, I was excited to check them out while spending a holiday weekend in Lexington. This food truck popped up at Pivot Brewing and the gal working was super friendly and helpful. She let us know that most of their "meats" they make themselves which I appreciate. The Verax caught my attention just because it's not self-explanatory. So the gal let me know that it's a fried chicken sandwich dipped in spicy agave, topped with slaw and hot pickles. She gave me utensils along with the sandwich because she said that it gets pretty messy. Indeed it is! And so worth the messiness! Perfect mix between crunchy, chewy, tangy, spicy, and sweet. Wonderful service and equally wonderful food. I ordered two cheeseburger egg rolls, the verax (minus coleslaw, add lettuce and tomatoes) & an oatmeal cream pie. They threw in a wing as a bonus. Everything was cooked to order (except the dessert). All items were delicious, reasonably priced and perfect portion sizes. FYI: the only nut based products are items made with "mayo" & the honey mustard sauce. I would definitely return. I already want another oatmeal cream pie. pulled into Pivot to fill a growler and maybe have a sip, got parked next to a snack wagon and made my way around to the service window where I was met by a lady extolling the pleasures that await. the funny thing is she wasn't Mike! ...but she had my attention spinning tales of veganese cuisine. We showed up at 1125 because the google listing said open at 11. they don't open until 12, google is wrong fyi. So we left to find another option but Lexington is seriously lacking in vegan options so we ended up back here around 1150. Mike opened up for us and was very pleasant to us throughout the whole ordering experience. My mother-in-law ordered a spicy chicken sandwich not quite sure what to expect, she asked if the Cajun (I believe it was Cajun) fries were very hot, Mike assured us that they were not. After the fry question, maybe one could consider saying hey the fries aren't very hot but the sandwich you ordered is like a blazing furnace of pain so maybe order something else? But no, not a peep. We continued our order, we got totchos, pizza rolls, wings half and half, a blt, & a oatmeal cream pie type of thing. Now let me preface by saying the vegan community (everywhere I have been at least) does a great disservice by leaving way better reviews/ratings simply because it is a vegan place or has vegan options. While I'm all for supporting businesses by leaving a good review, I think honesty is important. Moody mikes is solid but in serious need of some attention to detail. For example, the wings were cold inside as if not completely cooked. They were still edible but they were cold. The sauces we chose were delicious. The hit at the table was the totchos. They were great. The pizza rolls we had were also very tasty. As mentioned above, the spicy chicken sandwich was so spicy none of us could eat it, including my husband who is like the king of hot foods. Seriously this guy puts hot sauce on anything. We threw it away. The bummer is that you could tell the chicken was probably a slam dunk and it looked great. I think just an oversight on their behalf. (Remember we asked if the fries were especially spicy, why not mention the heat level on the sandwich?) the blt had sooo much potential. The bread was good and the lettuce and tomato were both fresh and of good quality. The problem is the main part of a Blt (the B). I believe it was rice paper bacon which is so good when done right but this was burnt. Not crispy or well done but burnt to bitterness. Unpleasant. The fries were good and the cookie sandwich was good as well. I think part of our not terrible but not great experience was showing up too early and then not doing our due diligence to really read between the lines of the mostly positive, raving reviews. I will definitely try again some time in the future, I think that it's not 100% fair to judge based on one visit, but it was pretty meh. The good was good and the bad was bad. read more

Outstanding! Had been wanting to try their food for a while and had the opportunity while at Pivot Brewing a few days ago. The selection was more extensive than I would have thought for such a niche food truck and I honestly had a hard time settling on what I should get - it all looked and sounded amazing. In the end, I opted for the spicy hot-honey "chicken" sandwich and Cajun fries. Did NOT disappoint. The texture of the plant protein based patty on the sandwich was honestly WAY better and more satisfying than any chicken sandwich anywhere else. And the combination of the spicy hot-honey and the cool Cole slaw was spot on perfection. Not a spec of meat or dairy in any of it and they were big missed at all. I've had hundreds of vegan meals before and most of them were pretty good. This one had to have been near the top, though. Cannot recommend enough! If you are not a vegan, don't be afraid to try this place - you will not be disappointed! If you enjoy the occasional vegan meal, make your next one here. I'm so glad I was in Lexington long enough to go here -- the one food place I went to and ate the food so quickly that I didn't even think to take a picture until afterwards. The location is a food truck that was stationed at a brewery. Be careful -- my GPS took us a street over and wanted us to WALK through the dense brush, up a hill and over a fence. It's not their fault: my car is just dumb. We landed on their crispy Chick'N sandwich and buffalo fries. The sandwich was like something I'd remember getting in fast food: except 10 times better. It was juicy, hot, flavorful, and I'm not sure I breathed between bites. It was there and then gone. The fries were also fresh, hot and - well - hot. Spicy. I was a big fan. My mouth wasn't: I forgot to bring a drink. So I put it away for the next day. And you know? It's just as good cold! It was perfectly creamy and seasoned really well, and the vegan ranch for the salads was SO good!! Some of the most amazing vegan food! I drove a hour out of my way to try it and I will most definitely do that again! We tried; not pulled pork fries (our favorite for sure, the pulled pork and bbq sauce were made with love, they need to make a pulled pork sandwich with it, it was sooo good), chopped cheese burger (definitely a simple but amazing burger, tastes like five guys, it had like relish cooked into it which was amazing almost never want a burger any other way again), garlic Parmesan wingz (not our favorite but still very good! I think if I would have known that the others things we tried were just so bomb we would have tried this first, they didn't disappoint tho, the texture was crazy like real chicken and the sauce was spot on!), honey habanero chicken sandwich with coleslaw on it! (Omg just wonderful, sweet and sassy, with a kick in the mouth at the end, definitely not for the faint hearted, but outstanding), shrimp po-boy (my sister and I have been vegans for years, this tripped us up, it truly tasted like shrimp texture and all, my sister couldn't eat it she was too freaked! Definitely good, just very messy and shrimp wouldn't stay on the bun, needed some hot sauce and I wish the shrimp were battered and deep fried!), oatmeal cream cookie (AMAZING! As someone who is definitely not vegan/vegetarian, this is the spot that made me realize that vegan food could scratch the same comfort food itch that "regular" places could. A little pricey but definitely worth it! The Hennessy sauce is a must if you're ordering the wings. read more
