We recently hired Megan from Mooch to create a custom dessert spread for our wedding that, along with a tiered wedding cake, also has items designed to accommodate a variety of dietary needs including gluten free, dairy free, vegan, and even a raw-vegan-gluten-free cheesecake. Communication with her has been speedy and intuitive and throughout the process she has been just so sweet- even though I changed my mind umpteen times she has been able to help me articulate my dessert vision. Technically the wedding isn't until April but I had to write a review now because I forgot to get a cake for my fiance's birthday this week and somehow Megan was able to whip up an incredible double chocolate drip cake with mocha Italian buttercream icing in time for his surprise party. We ordered a mini two tier cake for our wedding, and as much as we wanted to be able to say that it was well worth every penny, overall it was a total disappointment, especially given the price. We went for vanilla salted caramel flavor. Except for a slight tinge of salt here and there, we did not taste anything except sugar (thankfully was not disgustingly sweet at that). The cake layers were noticeably dry and the rippled buttercream tasted just like sweet fat. Maybe if you go for chocolate or other flavors you will have a better luck with the taste, but our cake was just dry and plain. The order information indicated that the cake was to be picked up from a red cooler. Instead, it was on the shelf right next to the cooler (end of August, for how long are you comfortable with your cake to be sitting outside?). For packaging they used a box for a one tier cake with some weird construction of film and staples to create a dome to accommodate the extra tier - very bizarre and unprofessional. To make it more interesting, the inside of the box had blotches of blue icing while our cake was white - did they recycle the box??? Basically the whole pick up and packaging left me wondering whether the business even cares. On the positive side, the cake was fresh - no question about that, nobody got sick. It does seem that all ingredients are natural as claimed, no weird artificial taste or anything of the sort. I really do not like giving negative reviews and most times would just let it go and avoid the service in the future. If it was a birthday or something like that, I would not even bother. With weddings it is already enough pressure with the ceremony and everything and you kind of hope that at least if you order the cake from a professional, that is something you do not need to worry about. I do like to support local small businesses and the place has received a lot of positive feedback, so, hopefully, it was just an aberration and Megan's creations will keep creating happy memories for her future customers. read more

Megan was amazing to work with! I was shopping around bakeries in Vancouver BC looking for places that deliver when I stumbled upon Mooch. The cakes looked amazing and they had mini cakes which was exactly what I needed. However I didn't see anything about delivery so I shot her an email. Her response was super fast and after explaining what I was looking for (surprise birthday cake delivery for my boyfriend who lives in Canada while I live in the US) she said she would be able to do it! The ordering was super easy after that and I ended up choosing the Vanilla Strawberry. My boyfriend was super surprised and happy to receive a cake on his birthday and just kept saying how delicious it was. His only "complaint" was that he wish he had more after finishing it. Mooch by Megan had this amazing Mother's Day special with Rintzylee Designs. $50, you get a mini 4' cake and a card. First of all, Megan was perfect in all areas of communication. She got my order, responded swiftly, and easy to book. Secondly, she included delivery. We are in the middle of a pandemic, so it's so sweet that she is able to deliver cakes to moms that do not live with their children. Thirdly, this is the best part. There was a little mishap during delivery. My mother-in-law was standing outside doing her gardening while the delivery came. She took the gift thinking it was for her when it was actually for my own mother. My mother-in-law's real gift was downstairs hidden, waiting to be gifted the next day. She had already eaten half the cake when she texted us "thanks for the cake!". I didn't even know how to react but to laugh. I quickly gave Megan a call, and we were both in disbelief this had happened and we just laughed it off. I asked Megan if she is able to bake a new one and I am willing to pay for it and come pick it up. She not only said yes, but she also insisted that I did not need to pay. I'd give zero stars if possible. First, near the end of January we ordered a cake tasting box with 3 flavours. At that time we put a non-refundable deposit of $75 to reserve the date and another $150 to solidify the quote. As Megan was highly recommended and all the reviews were 5* we felt comfortable with this. We had the cakes on Sunday, a full 5 months before our planned wedding and only 2 weeks after our initial request. However, the cakes weren't good. None of the three! All were extremely dry and with the exception of the lavender had minimal flavour. We let Megan know and asked for our deposits back. I understand she was clear about them being non refundable however there was only a two week timeline on our decision and we thought she might provide some flexibility. She offered none, she didn't even ask any further questions about the cakes, their quality or anything really. If it was my small business I'd be more concerned about why my cakes weren't satisfactory and would want to understand what I could do better. Terrible customer service. read more
