Earlier this year, I decided to get back into film photography. I never really knew what I was doing years ago when I did have a film camera but I was up for the challenge. I didn't know about Monument Camera when I ordered two old cameras: one from a national used camera gear reseller and one from a specialty shop in the UK. I'm happy with both purchases and am taking photos everyday but, had I known, I could've bought both at Monument. They have a very good variety of compelling film and digital cameras. I've been buying film and having them develop my negatives almost every week. I'm there a lot. The folks who work there are really nice and are experts. This was a great experience. I sold a 35 mm Single reflex Olympus OMG camera on Craigslist. Over 35 years old. The buyer wanted a clear opinion by an expert. Just needed batteries. We met here on time. Now the soft seal that blocks the light from getting to the film was in need of replacement. Not a perfect fit all the way around. Now it will be. He took it apart and looked at every tiny spot that could be bad. So that opinion was included in a standard service and cleaning. Another 40.00 total to the buyer. He was delighted . Case and desk tripod and original manual and first sales receipt from December, 1983. He gets it back fresh n clean in a few days. Good day all around! Oh and no charge for the opinion! At the start of this school year I decided to pick up photography again. Not really knowing where to look, I asked my photo professor at the UofA where I could get some gear, and just generally for a good reputable camera store. Before I could even finish my question, she blurted out "Monument Camera!" I decided to check the place out, and they are amazing. They have such a wide variety of products for many different camera systems, and even have vintage stuff too. Prices are very fair and reasonable, and you can find amazing deals on all sorts of things for sale in there. I've gotten many rolls of film developed here and they always manage to turn the film around in a VERY timely manner, which is why I will ALWAYS recommend Monument Camera as the place to shop for any camera equipment in the Tucson area. read more

I absolutely love this place! I was traveling through AZ on a shooting trip and really wasn't loving the lens I had for my digital Infrared. We found this place online and called and they were super friendly. We got there to find a treasure trove of equipment, new, used, and vintage, as well as a knowledgeable employee and a great owner. A bit dated interior but; cool BECAUSE of it! I met Stacey and was a joy to conversate with. I needed a place to have my Canon 70D and a 15-85mm lens corrected - locally if possible. He offered to 'look' at it for $45.00 but no guarantee it would be, or could be fixed. At Canon, you pay more but there is a guarantee to identify the problem. No worries though, I appreciate the local business and certainly friendly atmosphere here in. SEVERAL used items for sale including old Polaroids, bags, lenses, filters, lights, etc. No Hassalblads or SX70's, but those are hard to find nonetheless... Not the most sterile of environments to work on cameras but the casual, kind business mindset will make me return from time to time and see what might be on sale.. Check this place out; they MIGHT just have what you're looking for... :-) read more

I can't say enough about this business. After being jilted for bringing in a cannon to a Nikon store (doesn't specifically say Nikon only, just the colors scheme) I waited an entire weekend to go in and was greeted right away and given space on the counter to take a look at my camera and what I was trying to get out of it. New the answer to my question without even thinking about it and even suggested another business for some film development I was wanting to try to get done. The gentleman that greeted me even offered to make an offer on an extra cannon I had if I was ever thinking of selling. Bought two lenses that day and went back another day to get another lens for my Nikon. I will be going to back as often as I can, and might even see about trading in for a digital body he had. This is great place for new and experienced photographers. They have very reasonable prices and pay well on trade in's.

They have the most vast selection of film cameras in Arizona. I have been to every film/ camera store in Phoenix and Sedona, no one else compares. They have hundreds of different types of cameras and just as many lenses. They are also the most personable and knowledgeable store I've been to. I literally drive down from Phoenix to come to this camera store. I have been to other stores where they treat me like a nuisance, but here they care about me and help me with any questions or concerns that I may have. They care about who you and aren't just trying to sell you on something. You can tell they genuinely want to help and make you happy. I've never had such wonderful customer service/ care. read more

Beware! I had some photography equipment I wanted to sell and I called this place and the guy said to bring it in. So I loaded up the car, drove across town, and brought in the first item (one of 3 studio lights). He appeared fine with it, and so I said "Okay, I'll bring in the the other two", which I did. Then I told him about the other stuff I had, and he seemed okay with that, so I lugged in all the other stuff (4 or 5 trips in all.) After everything was in front of him, he calmly said "I don't have the money right now". I asked him why he hadn't told me this after seeing the first studio light - - - why did he agree that I should haul in the other two? - - - and why didn't he tell me right away that he didn't "have the money right now"? AND why didn't he tell me that on the phone before I hauled all the stuff over there? He said with a blank look on his face "I don't have the money right now". I then asked him "Why didn't you tell me you didn't have the money sooner?" And he again looked passively at me and said "I don't have the money right now" (like a robot). He should NOT have told me on the phone to bring my equipment there if he knew he "didn't have the money right now". He should NOT have allowed me to haul in the remainder of the lights and equipment if he "didn't have the money right now". Don't let his beautiful blue eyes fool you. The guy is a dick. read more

This business is not only a treasure trove of the last 40 years of 35mm greatness, it also has very friendly and knowledgeable staff, and very reasonable pricing. Recently I purchased and Olympus OM-1 with three Zuiko OM-System lenses for about as much as I would pay on eBay, with the benefit of being able to fully inspect the product before swiping my card. No fungus, smooth zoom action, and perfect shutter reflex has make my heart smile. As far as film goes, they have a decent selection of Fujifilm color options - some in bulk for much cheaper than a retail store - and they stock an array of Ilford films (Which is a blessing). For all of your studio people, they offer a mild selection of new and used lighting options, as well as a plethora of master/slave setups. I would recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

My crew and I had a last min shoot and ran into this store and told him what we were shooting and he was excited about our project and ran around the store gathering equipment in front of us! And building it to gather and then gave us a really great price! And was honest when there was something he couldn't provide. A last minute event detail led me on an unsuccessful search across town for camera/photo equipment rentals. It turns out, no one in Tucson rents basic photo equipment, like photo back drops and stands, but there is this one store that sell used equipment. While I did not find what I was looking for, this place is chock full of camera goods, new and used. They've got everything from cameras(vintage and new), to lenses, tri-pods, bags, paper, film, back drops, stands and more. This is definitely a little treasure trove for professionals and camera enthusiasts alike. Photography equipment is expensive, so listen up photographers! It's worth checking this place out. Like any used goods store, periodic visits or phone calls are worth while to check in and see what they've got in the used department. They did have a huge back drop frame that was heavy duty and in great condition for $150, while the new frames that are not heavy duty cost the same. Sounds like a deal to me! read more

In June, I was visiting family in Tucson. I had to replace a battery charger for a Nikon D-50. The guy on duty at Monument told me a "universal" battery charger would do the trick. He plugged it in and held in such away that it looked like It fit, and assured me it work. When I tried it myself later, the battery didn't even fit in the charge, you had to hold it shut the whole time. It was ridiculous. I was traveling and was hoping for results. Anyway, the cost was over $50.00, and I was royally taken advantage of. I believe it is way too late for a refund. Maybe they just like to rip of the ladies, or travelers. In the meantime I have a boatload of friends and relatives in Tucson (I used to live there) and I'll be telling them to be careful of Monument. read more

While driving through Yuma, AZ I discovered that my Nikon DSLR battery was dead and I had no spare and no charger. I tried to find what I needed in Yuma, but everyone kept telling me to "try the internet". So that's how I found Monument. Since Tucson was my next stop I called ahead to Monument and found the battery I needed (at a good price!) and a universal charger that charges not only my batteries, but my I-pod, my cell phone, my tablet and my E-reader as well! Also at a good price. My only regret is that I didn't have more time to browse around in Monument, because it looked like they have some great deals on used photographic equipment. I drooped my Canon 7D on concrete and it bounced three times. When I picked it up it was dead. I changed the battery and flipped all the switches, nothing! I took it in the next day to Monument and the repair man fixed it in five minutes. I asked him how much and he just shrugged. I gave him a five dollar bill and this endorsement. I had already had a lens fixed and bought a used monopod that I have been taking hiking the last year. This is a GREAT place. If you need something, go here first. read more

Sometimes you run across people that just don't want to be doing what they are doing...that is how this place seems to me.
