Flash in the Past is a vintage pin-up style photography studio. They stay true the pin-up aesthetic, using only vintage or high-quality reproduction clothing items and fabulous wigs. I went to Flash in the Past a year and a half ago, at the old location, and had a wonderful time. Think full-service treatment, from chocolate-covered strawberries to your own personal makeup artist. Ramsey, the owner and photographer of FITP, makes you feel at ease, helping you pose and telling you what a great job you're doing. As a narcissist with no modeling experience, it was reassuring and made the experience much more enjoyable. A couple of weeks later, I got my proofs. AMAZING. I showed up to my appointment in sweats, but you'd think I lived in red lipstick and lingerie based on these photos. I felt, and looked, beautiful. I encourage anyone who wants to treat themselves (or a loved one!) to book an appointment with Flash in the Past. They offer all sorts of packages, from the basic mini-shoot to a full suite of add-ons. Forget diamonds, for a pin-up girl, Flash in the Past is a girl's best friend.

Flash in the Past was five stars from start to finish. Ramsay was a joy to work with from booking all the way to picking up my photos at the end, and made me look and feel like a gorgeous movie star. Not only is her entire collection almost entirely vintage, but she's got an incredible eye for style and even if you have no idea what look you're going for, she can pick out something extremely flattering for your body shape. I already purchased another package as a gift, can't wait to see my friend get her pics done! :)

I did the Dillinger special package. So fun!

I'm not usually at a loss for superlatives, but oh. My. God. This place. THIS PLACE. Treating myself to the Flash in the Past experience was the single best thing I've ever done for myself. The owner of FITP is an absolute sweetheart. The whole process is comfortable and also extremely professional. She knows what she's doing! Also, I HIGHLY recommend getting your hair done. It lasted three days! Ladies, don't wait to do things you want to do. I waited four years to get my pictures taken because I wanted to wait until I had lost weight or for an occasion or for a special someone. Life is too short for that nonsense! Do something that makes you feel good RIGHT NOW. I could write a novel about how much fun I had and the pictures turned out to be GORGEOUS. Go! Have some fun and support a local business.

My Christmas card, designed by Flash in the Past!

Flash In The Past is an amazing experience that will give you photos to cherish for the rest of your life. I came in with my concept for a Christmas card, my costume and my hair done. But none of that is a pre-requisite. Ramsey, the photog, has plenty of ideas and really has an eye for vintage. She has a room full of costumes and props. She has make-up and hair artists. Her whole house is set up for photo shoots. She's patient, she puts you at ease, and she gets the shots that you'll want to share. My Christmas card was a hit and everyone wanted to know who made it. Give yourself a treat (and possibly your significant other) and go see Ramsey!

It was soo much fun walking around and seeing all the thrift and vintage items they had. I would come here all the time if I lived close to really spend time looking around at all they have to offer because this place is huge. They even have a downstairs with more items! I didn't even notice the downstairs, but my guy did. I'm soo glad I checked it out because I found a beautiful vintage metal art piece that was perfect in my guest room! I have been looking for a main art piece to hang up for months and couldn't believe my luck!

It's more spread out and cleaner, and the vibes are fantastic. The prices are about average for an antique store. They have great selection but I wish there was more stuff and less furniture just as a personal preference. The people are super sweet and are exactly the kind of people I would want to be friends with. There is a ton of parking in front and in the back. The doors are automatic and there's an elevator and accessible bathroom so the whole building is very accessible. The really designed their new location around being inclusive to everybody and I love seeing that in Arizona. I go here every time I visit Tucson and always look forward to my next trip. Definitely give them some love and check the store out!

The shop itself is thoughtfully curated and eclectic. You'll find a little bit of everything here: Harley pieces, Betty Boop, Southwestern and cowboy vibes, old-school denim, Dickies, and truly vintage jeans that feel intentionally sourced rather than randomly racks upon racks. From a visual and curation standpoint, it's clear there's an eye behind what's being selected. That said, this is not a casual thrifting stop. This is a higher-end vintage boutique, and the pricing reflects that. Jackets easily reach the several-hundred-dollar range, and many pieces are priced accordingly for collectors or shoppers specifically seeking premium vintage. As someone who shops vintage often and is used to finding great pieces across a wide range of price points, I personally found the prices higher than what I was prepared to spend on this visit, which ultimately meant I didn't walk out with anything. The owner was polite, and the experience itself wasn't unpleasant, but this shop definitely caters to a specific buyer. If you're walking in, expect to spend real money--this isn't a $20-$50 browse-and-buy kind of place. Overall, Marvelous Vintage is well curated and unique, just not aligned with my personal shopping style or budget this time around. If you're looking for rare pieces and are comfortable investing in high-end vintage, this may be right up your alley. For more casual thrifters, it's helpful to know what you're walking into.

Had we had more time, we could have spent hours walking up and down the street checking out all the little shops. The Tucson Thrift Shop actually connects with a pass through with another store called, The Other Side. I don't know if they're two separate shops or one big one, but they sold the same type of vintage clothes, costume jewelry, and costumes perfect for any occasion. The staff were friendly, but stayed behind the counter and offered a nice smile and said hello when you entered the store and have a nice day when you left. They certainly dressed as if they shopped at their own store and had enough tie dyed shirts to make any deadhead happy. If you're in town, it's definitely worth a peek inside. I bought a hamburger hat for my burger club and my son would have bought a couple items if his "square" parents weren't there to make him feel "lame.
