This is one of those "only in tucson " gems ! Casa has a lounge , local beers , make your own 6pack , plenty of non alcoholic drinks, great local food from all the restaurants Nextdoor ( they'll walk your order over to casa if you call and deliver ) , they play nostalgic movies on screens all over the lounge , serve local pop corn , and there is never ending room after rooms of film to purchase . Don't forget to check out foreign films , balcony and TV series section upstairs ! It's like an incredible time warp . A little nerdy in the best way . Love the outdoor seating experience as well. They host large events and film mixers here , so keep an eye out. There's a fun event flier wall in the corner of the lounge , you'll find some really neat local events posted there . There's so much to say about Casa Video.. It's a remarkable iconic landmarks west of the Mississippi! One of the last video stores around or could honestly be the last one. This video store is special because it made it through the test of time! It is thriving in the new age of the streaming, where everyone has any movie at the touch of a button. But there is nothing like being able to stop in to rent a DVD the traditional way. Where you pick the case up and read the back of the movies, it's so the nostalgic feeling the smell of popcorn in the air, to the movie theater carpet on the floor! What a great place to create memories with children grandchildren, adults of all addresses will enjoy this place! As a child I used to come here and just to come back because I moved away for a while and to it's still here and has the memories and everything on the walls. But the best part is they didn't allow the test of time to date them, they kept this place up to date as they have one half dedicated to a chill spot for people who want to go on have a drink, play a board game, watch TV or just hang out and chill. It's so cool to see they kept up with what this era needs we'll still keeping the traditional part on the other side!! This place truly is a gem. It's David among the big streaming Goliaths. Their selection is fantastic--I once struggled to find a rare disc that even Amazon didn't have; Casa Video had THREE copies. Service is always courteous--none of the stereotypical School-of-Rock-esque snobbish store clerks here. They are happy to answer your questions. And the rental value is excellent, with two-for-one deals three days of the week. Please support this business. You DON'T want the streaming Goliaths to bestride the land, trust me. Once they do, they'll get worse and worse. They're already shoving ads down our collective throats and raising prices with no added value, not to mention driving the little guy out of business. Let's all make sure Casa Video stays alive for a long, long time. In fact, I think I'll head there to pick up another couple DVDs. read more

We decided to stop by for their 40th anniversary and I really appreciated all this space has to offer. The video store felt like stepping into my childhood. I enjoyed browsing their new releases and employee picks in movie section on the video rental side. It was so fun to have the chance to get lost browsing the aisles, reading the back of the movie cases, and finding new and classic movies to rent. You can also pick up some boxed candy for the perfect date, movie night with friends, or solo hang. The bar was a really cool space that hosts all kinds of events including trivia nights. Each day of the week they feature awesome food trucks. We had the chance to pick up food from a local food truck while we were there. You can enjoy your food inside the bar or on their large patio, I loved the large selection of NA drinks they had in addition to their craft beers! I rented a series set of 3 DVD's, went on a 2-week vacation, i had forgotten about it until they gave me a 1-week late courtesy call, my item was a week overdue and they wanted to charge me more than it's value in late fees. ~$30, on top of the ~$8 i paid just to rent them. In my mind i was thinking, "i might as well keep it." Despite trying to reason with the manager he couldn't cut me a break despite being a loyal customer there for yrs longer than he's been working there and this being the first occurrence from me. But i didn't wanna hold onto it so i returned it and paid the rediciulous charge. Because of this experience, I'm never doing business with Casa Video again. The only thing keeping their business afloat is their bar btw, IMHO. read more

Casa Video is rad. The rates are reasonable, especially if you can go on a BoGo day or something--it comes out to a little bit less than if you'd rented digitally through Amazon, YouTube or whatever. Plus, you get the physical disc, for two whole weeks, and get to watch special features, audio commentaries, etc. There are some movies that, sadly, were never released on DVD, so in those cases Casa Video will usually have the VHS version. There are very few movies I can imagine that Casa wouldn't have. Love the popcorn. Love the outdoor seating. Love the upstairs area with the horror section. Nostalgia! I so felt like a child walking into Blockbuster, they even have a turnstile! Movies galore, so if you still have a DVD player or maybe even a VCR, this may be the place for you. They have a very chill vibe, a bar with lots of IPAs and sometimes food trucks roll through. There are TVs throughout playing a movie chosen by the bartender and you can just sit and chill. They are wearing mask, sanitizing and observing social distancing! read more

In an age where everything is online and streaming, we are lucky to still have a local video rental store, and such an outstanding one at that. It is a little hard to write this review because there is nothing to compare it too. They are in the video rental business, obviously (is anyone else?) but don't imagine that it is anything like what your local Blockbuster used to be. The inventory is mind-boggling. All the new releases, but also classics, a huge foreign film section, animation, documentaries, a bunch of tv series, and on and on. And now, they have a film bar. Pros; big selection of films (some foreign or classic), there are always two for one employee picks, there are usually other two for one specials (ask if you dare!), candy's available (big!), frequently a food truck will be in the parking lot for dinner, outdoor seating is available, and there is a bar. This is just a great, comfortable spot. Lots of good beer to choose from and a great excuse to watch movies of all levels of quality without that nagging sense that you should probably be spending your time doing something more intellectually defensible. I watched that entire movie where Brendan Frazier was a caveman and Pauly Shore was a human being that people paid to be in movies and thoroughly enjoyed the stupid thing. There's free popcorn from the video store* next door, and since popcorn is the one food I would eat until I physically exploded but don't only because I'm worried what other people would say about me, this makes me really happy. *a "video store" is a store that rents movies for people to take home, watch, and then return to the store for a fee. foreign cinema: One of the only places to find foreign cinema of any value in Tucson, there are also thousands of other titles to rent. Great ambiance inside, cheap titles and it beats the corporates on every level I don't think CrockBuster or Nit-flix carries "Sartre: The Interview" et al. Yeah, everything is now on DVD but I was going there when nothing was available except at Casa Video on lovely VHS. Always great to enter it, free popcorn, browsing is fun as well. The video store has gone by the wayside with the advent of Netflix, Redbox, Amazon Prime, etc., but I'm so glad this gem is around! A lot of times it's tough to get your hands on new releases (legally and affordably) even if you have every streaming service at your disposal. If you're looking for a new release, Casa Video probably has it. Casa Video also has TONS of movies, cult classic, foreign, popular, and obscure titles. If you're looking for an older movie, they have it! For example, around last Halloween I had an itch to watch Practical Magic. It wasn't on Netflix at the time and was an older title that you wouldn't find at a Redbox. Of course, Casa Video had it. You also get to keep the movies for three nights, no 9 p.m. next-day deadline like at Redbox. The free popcorn is the best! So I had to drop them a few of stars. Why you ask? Well, my friend, I will explain... Minor complaint: The addition of the bar is very cute and I like it, and I especially like the beer selection. However, the beer selection is always rotating, and it's hard to know in advance if they will have the same selection they had last time. Another complaint, of medium value: The place needs new carpet and maybe a thorough cleaning or renovation. It just has an overall blah to it. I keep thinking its just the old charm of the place, but no, I've written that idea off - it needs to un-blah. Major complaint: The LACK of customer service. Yes, it capital LACKS very badly. I get it - I truly do...who really desires to work at a movie store on Saturday night, or any other night? But I go out of my way to try to be nice to them. We have our ID ready before they ask, and payment in hand, and always compliment them or try a little chit chat, and their responses are BEYOND rude. It's as if anything nice you say is purposely flushed into a life-sucking vortex, not as if it was never said, but as if the compliment killed their dog and they hate you for it, forever. Oh, it's not just one employee, it's the entire culture there. Bearded and non-bearded alike, they are socially awkward and graceless to the nines, and when you need assistance or have a question, or are just checking out, it always seems like a bother and they are persistently thankless. And they are this way to people in front of us, us, and behind us, every time without fail, no matter what night of the week. My guess is they will not be around much longer if they keep that crap up - not with the updated cable service offering movies without late-fees that are about the same price from the comfort of your own home, and without the rudeness. Anyway, I went to Casa Video, and I was blown away by their selection--a wide variety of documentaries, indie flicks, and foreign language films, along with all the traditional fare. Netflix doesn't have anything on these guys, mainly because the staff is super helpful. They pointed me in just the right direction, and I found "Y Tu Mama Tambien." When I got home, Cassie and my pal Rick were anxiously awaiting the movie; as soon as I opened the door, they shuffled in their spots on the couch really quick! I was excited, too! I like Spanish flicks, and plus, I didn't even know Rick was coming over! I thought the movie was pretty good, but Rick and Cassie REALLY liked it! They said they were gonna show it to our friend Ben, and they took off. Pretty sure it speaks for itself!
