I'm so happy with the work they did digitally restoring an old damaged photo of my parents. It's the only one I have like it. Staff are very friendly and helpful too:) read more

Photographic Works - Art Galleries Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

I absolutely love this place! I tried several different shops around town and either they weren't able to do what I needed or were way overpriced. Keith was so incredibly helpful and made the whole process easy. I had a canvas print made for my mom of her dog who recently passed and she loved it so much. It was digital art and I was concerned about any pixels showing but they edited it for me and it exceeded my expectations 100%. Will definitely be coming back for any prints I need in the future. read more

Scenario: Have a 5x7 print of grandma's wedding and want to enlarge it to an 8x10 print. Went to Walgreens and paid $3.50 for a streaky, terrible enlargement. Wanted to go somewhere nicer to get a better print made. Result: Photographic Works wanted to charge $31.64 for the enlargement. About $15 of that would cover scanning the photo and putting it on a CD (are you kidding??) and another $15 to make the 8x10 print. While I agree that it should cost more than Walgreens, I had an enlargement made at a different photo shop in Boston and it only cost me $14. I even asked if I could save $15 without taking the digital image on CD, but instead I was informed that scanning was part of the enlargement process... thanks... Verdict: I left without ordering any prints, so I have no idea what quality they provide, but $31.64 is too much to pay for an enlargement of a print. I'm going to look elsewhere for my photo services. read more

When I first moved to Tucson, Photographic Works was the go-to place for getting my film developed. That was great as I live in the same neighborhood. But over the last 2 years they have exited this aspect of the business leaving me wondering what is it they actually do there anymore. I might have given them more stars, but what really irks me is that they don't seem interested in providing service to anyone who needs film processing. Case in point, when I brought some E-6 film to them a couple of months back they told me that they couldn't process it but they could refer me to a lab in LA where I could send it off to be developed. Now, it seems to me that if they were interested in servicing their customers and keeping us happy they might, for a nominal fee, offer to handle sending the film out to be processed as most labs would do when they couldn't do something in-house. Back in the day that was called "customer service" and a company would take the extra step if it meant holding on to a clientele. I guess they aren't that motivated. More recently, I brought a roll of C-41 color print film in to process and they referred me to Jones Photo. Fine. Have it your way. I'll give them a try. Maybe the folks at Jones won't be so willing to throw business away. Bottom line, I think it's a shame that Photographic Works, with the reputation they once had, would so willingly hand off business to another company and forfeit the faith and future business of their customers. Perhaps that's the direction customer service is going these days. Seems that so few business owners remember the old adage "Take care of your customers and your customers will take care of you." Yes, film labs are a dying breed. But when you're one of the last ones standing and you've been handed the corner on a market -- even by default -- chances are you aren't going to lose your clientele unless you send them elsewhere as Photographic Works is doing. I hope they re-evaluate their commitment to their customers and at least consider taking the step of sending film out for processing if they aren't interested in doing it themselves anymore. Their customers will appreciate them more for taking the hassle out of getting film developed. read more

Hands down the best photo lab and framing store in town. Been at the same location for 30+ years. They know what they are doing. I don't go anywhere else when I'm in Tucson. read more

I'll tell you a small story that is straight out of the news. I was rounding up stuff to sell in my house and taking it to a swap meet. I had this small box of antique early 1950's photographic film with a "50" written on it- presumed it meant I had purchased it for half a buck or it was the year. I was taking it to be sold as an antique hoping someone would want it for some vintage hipster reason, when my dad and I happened to look through them. They were developed negatives, and the photos upon closer inspection looked oddly familiar. How was this possible? Turns out, this was a box of negatives of my dad, his sis and parents from 1952. I'd somehow had it around and none of us knew it existed and they may never have been developed. And who could develop these wonders of over 60 years ago? Photographic Works, that's who. And they did. And they had options. At whatever price it was worth it to get a contact sheet and CD. From there, the photos could be developed at Costco or wherever. And it was not cheap. But hey, what's cheap? What price would you pay for 60+ year old photographs of family that you never knew existed and that provided rare unseen moments? Totally worth it. read more

amazing. This week has proved to me that photo buffs in tucson are some of the nicest and most knowledgable in the country. I was directed here for film developing by the kind staff at Tucson Camera Repair, and I was not disappointed. Their prices are super reasonable, staff is so personable and they have quick turnaround time. They even have cheap expired film which can be hard to find! The whole operation feels really artful and professional while not at all pretentious. Check these guys out! read more

Exceptional service. I brought in three orders, one of which was a fairly large and complex shoebox scanning job. They nailed it. Then I brought in a photo to put on a metal frame, but was unhappy with the result. They redid it for me at no charge. Perfect. The last job was to take a poor resolution photograph and put it on a metal frame, which turned out beautifully and was ready the next day. Excellent operation, all the way around. read more

I've been going to Photographic Works for many, many years. As a professional photographer they offer consistent results (that always looks great) and amazing customer service. The staff is always friendly and helpful and my prints always look great! I also like that I'm supporting a local business every time I shop here. Their prices are very reasonable and I recommend to all my clients that purchase a cd of my images that they do their printing there. Photographic Works is fantastic! read more

Oh no! As of early September, Photographic Works has stopped developing film. I haven't used any of their other services, so I don't really feel qualified to give them a new star rating, but it's a shame--they were the best, and cheapest, in town. (It sounds like they only got rid of development because their B&W machine broke down--as a color-only shooter I am trying very hard to not beg them to keep C41 processing going until that one breaks down, too.) read more

I'm sure this isn't a frequent problem at this location, but I went there to get a print made of a digital artwork. The people were super friendly and whatnot, so I'm not going to give them one star, but yeah. I needed the print done in two days, they said that was fine. I call them two days later and they say they didn't even put it on the queue and wouldn't be able to have it by Monday. Kind of just a bad personal experience. I'm sure they're normally not like that, though. read more

This place is a mixed bag of results. Their scanning service is very good, however expensive. When they did E-6 work, it was inconsistent. I can recall having to return film to them for rework many times. I can also recall two occasions where they had to replace my film with unexposed rolls due to their partially ruining what I had given them for developing. There did not appear to be any determination on their part as to the root cause of the problems because they seemed to continue. They need more customer focus to assure that the customer gets a product that meets their expectations. read more

I recently went online to look at Photo Works Yelp reviews and was a bit shocked. Well, shocked is too strong a word for I know how Americans love to flame people on the web, especially when their great expectations are not met, and we are Entitled Culture now, don't you know, always wanting everything for free or cheap or whatever. Anyway. One guy didn't like the out of focus proofs and the other guy didn't like the high cost. Well, I've been going to Photographic Works for around 15 years now, and they have done everything from develop my medium format negs to printing very large DeVinci prints for myself for gallery and museum shows. The price can be high at time, but the old saying is you do get what you pay for, and frankly, for high quality work, they are competitive in price with others around the country and around town. I have gone to the other two pro labs in Tucson and they are ok too, but they don't have my loyalty. And seriously, in all those years and the hundreds of black and white rolls of film I have taken to them, they have only screwed up two rolls. That's pretty great if you ask me. And their Quality Control is top notch. Recent prints they printed for a show of mine were great. The test strips proved invaluable and the staff was great as always. They have on a few occasions, over the years, misprinted something of mine but they've admitted their mistake and reprinted the order. Again, I can't recommend them highly enough. They are good people and very knowledgeable. But if you want a cheap color 8 x 10 made that will fade in a couple of years, go somewhere else. if you want something that'll last a century, go to Photographic Works. read more

Great lab- friendly staff, always excellent work with straight up answers,

simply put - tucson is lucky to have a place like photographic works. when pro labs are shutting down left and right pw in tucson stays committed to their very loyal clientele that would otherwise resort to having to ship film off for processing. i can't even begin to tell you how much i have learned from the staff there. they politely tolerated my newbie questions such as, "what's an f stop?" and "how come my pictures be so blurry?" they conduct training workshops and photo contests and display local artists work at their arts eye studio... They're part of what's great about Tucson. read more
