There are some experiences that stay with you forever, and our afternoon at Santa Theresa Tile…read moreWorks was one of them. My dad passed away three months ago, and my mom and I wanted to create something special to honor him. We decided on a mosaic memorial bench filled with the colors, images, and little things that reminded us of him and his love of Arizona. Neither of us could have imagined just how meaningful the experience would be. From the moment we arrived, Sam was absolutely wonderful. He gave us a thorough tour, explained how everything worked, walked us through the process, and made us feel completely welcome. His patience, knowledge, and kindness set the tone for the entire experience. And then there was Maddie. Oh, Maddie! I genuinely cannot say enough about this extraordinary human. She was AMAZING. Her creative feedback, encouragement, enthusiasm, and willingness to help us work through our ideas made all the difference. She knew exactly when to offer a suggestion, when to cheer us on, and when to let us figure things out for ourselves. She helped us make something that was truly ours, and I am so grateful for her. We also spent time with a wonderful volunteer whose name we unfortunately didn't catch. She explained how the tiles are actually made, walked us through the creative process behind the beautiful pieces we were using, and told us about her experience volunteering there. She was so enthusiastic about the work and the people that my mom might just be signing up to volunteer herself! And here's something that makes this place even more extraordinary: Santa Theresa Tile Works is a nonprofit that supports Imago Dei Middle School, a tuition-free private school serving children from low-income families in Tucson. The school provides not only an education, but meals, family resources, enrichment opportunities, and continued support for students after graduation. The revenue generated through Santa Theresa's workshops, mosaics, and other creative projects helps sustain this important educational mission. So not only did we get to spend an afternoon making something beautiful and deeply personal, but we also got to contribute to something that makes a real difference in the lives of children and families in the community. As an educator myself, I find that especially meaningful. What I loved most was that nobody treated us like customers completing a project. We were two people making something to remember someone we loved, and the care, generosity, and genuine interest we received made the entire afternoon feel special. We laughed, we created, we remembered my dad, and we left with something we will treasure forever. Santa Theresa Tile Works is everything I love about art and community. It's creative, welcoming, a little magical, and full of people who clearly love what they do. We cannot WAIT to go back. And Maddie, Sam, and the wonderful volunteer: thank you for helping my mom and me turn our love for my dad into something tangible and beautiful. You gave us so much more than a mosaic bench.

The fountain brings us some much enjoyment not just with the beautiful sound it makes throughout the entire yard but the fact that has turned us into bird watchers for the many varieties of birds it brings to our space. Danny was the best not just for the install but repairiing a couple of minor chips. We are so happy with this beautiful addition to our space. Loya's Courtyard is THE best.

The space is not large, but it was big enough to handle the small crowd that turned out for this event. There was wine, sparkling water, and a bowl of chocolate kisses, but that was it when it came to food and drink. If I had both more money and more space, I would definitely go on a shopping spree here.

The main problem with this shop is the poor attitude of the owner and one of the framers. Major…read moreattitude and very rude. We tried to work out a design with them for a project and it took three weeks to text us a layout. We weren't happy with the layout, so we came back in and altered the project. After they said they could do the second layout, they contacted us and said they couldn't complete the job as we wanted. We had already put a down payment for the work and when they couldn't do the work to our liking, they charged us 120 dollars for a layout design (they wanted to charge us more, but we settled on this amount). Go to Mo's they are night and day more professional and hashed out the design and a computerized layout on the first visit in 20 minutes, Mo's could do what we wanted, highly suggest staying away from AP&F and go to Mo's !!! We were never informed the layout time would cost money and when we stopped the job, they got mad and demanded money. Compare that to mo's we left with a computer designed layout from the start and they had 100% confidence they would complete the work to our satisfaction and even ordered software updates to their mat cutter !

The Happy Saguaro is a very interesting place--its huge inventory is beautifully presented and the…read morestaff is helpful but not pushy which allows for a pleasant shopping experience IMO. The store has broad selection of seasonal and year-round wares that are colorful and interesting. All the above said, I have two issues with the place. First, the seasonal products like Talavera and pottery are priced higher than other merchants by 20% and I think that may be due to their location and the amount of inventory--my best advice is to wait for a sale. Second is the lack of a public restroom which I find ridiculous--they advertise on social media so their audience is broad, after a two-hour trip being told you can use a restroom at Trader Joe's is ridiculously inconvenient. Would I recommend The Happy Saguaro? Yes and no, if you're in the area or enroute to other destinations, it's worth a stop. If you're looking for something in particular you have to have, call and it can be worth the drive but realize you may be paying for it.
