Not the type to ever want to give a bad review but I personally would never go back. I got tips with hard gel, I paid $110 plus $15 tip just for them to pop right off after 3 days. Thanks so much to this salon for equipping me with a band aid for dinner in NYC tonight. If I could give less than a 1 star I would. I went to this salon for a manicure and sadly left with a hacked up hand and a finger that is still bleeding an hour later. I asked the technician to use the electronic nail file for my cuticles rather than cutting. She indicated that she was able to do this, but quickly ignored my request to not cut my cuticles. She never soaked my nails. She didn't do anything to prep my cuticles and rushed through the cutting. On nail # 2, she cut my cuticle so severely that it is still bleeding 1 hour later (even with a band aid and pressure) and seemed confused when I told her again to not cut my cuticles! Enjoy the attached picture! She seemed quite frustrated when I was resisting her attempts to put some random solution on my finger multiple times and kept requesting me to take pressure off of the wound, despite that being the top need to stop the bleeding! She also directly touched my open wound with the bottle of antiseptic that is used for everyone else. Not sanitary! It is clear that this person was not trained properly. There was also not visual display of cosmetology license so I wouldn't be surprised if this person was not properly licensed. She continued on with the manicure and seemed to be a bit irritated, despite being the cause of my discomfort and the awkward situation. After it was clear that the bleeding was not stopping (several minutes later), she finally offered me a bandaid (only at the suggestion of another technician). Even after all this, she did not offer any attempt at an apology until the manicure was done and I was at the exit.... and it was a half hearted attempt at an apology.... she could barely get the words out. Despite all of this she was still trying to charge me for the hack job. On my way out, I shared my hacked up hand with the receptionist who looked to be surprised, which was a poor attempt, as everyone in the salon clearly saw and heard what happened and my technician shared with him what happened. No salon staff offered anything to remedy the situation. I had to make it clear to the salon that I was not willing to pay for the injury caused by their staff. They did agree with my insistence. I won't be back to this salon which is unfortunate, as the facility looks nice, but taking a chance at another "hack job" is not worth it. The first time I went here Rebecca did my gel manicure within 15 minutes. I felt it was super fast and it wasn't perfect, but it was just okay. Within 24 hours it was all chipping off. I was very disappointed. Within three days more than half of my nails were all peeled off. I decided to give this place one more try since it's close to my house. That was definitely the last time, especially because of the rude employees at the front desk (one was the masseuse and I'm unsure who the other was) I decided to get a gel pedicure. Angie did my pedicure and offered me a spa pedicure. I figured I'd get it, but not the $90 one she recommended. I decided to go for the cranberry one, which was $45. There was a leg scrub and a cranberry lotion. They wrap your legs in cellophane over one of these lotions to help hydrate your skin. This included a 10 minute massage. She did a nice job and gave a very good massage. I also had Angie do my gel manicure and told her my concerns from what happened last time. She took her time and did a great job. This is the part where I got really aggravated. I went to pay and they told me my total and it seemed off. I asked for a break down of the pricing, Spa Pedicure $45, gel manicure $38, 10 minute massage $15 and the kicker..... Another $38 for gel polish for my toes!! I very nicely asked what the $38 charge was for and the lady at the desk explained that it was for the gel. I understand this girl does not make the pricing, but I said to her that I have been to many salons and I have never paid $83 for a spa pedicure that included a 10 minute massage. I have always paid an additional $10 for gel on top of the spa pedicure price in any place that I have ever gone to. She then told me that she will let the owner know about the pricing. I also told them that they should update their book that I chose my spa pedicure from because the pricing says that it is $45. This is where I got angry, because the masseuse and the other gentleman that was standing at the bar, started laughing at me, and then speaking in their language and pointing to me. I then told them they could speak to me in English if they had something to say, and then they decided to go grab the book and start laughing and act, as if I wasn't able to pay for the services. How embarrassing two grown men are doing this. I let them know that I will never be back to this establishment again and that they are steering their customers in the wrong direction. I tipped Angie $20 and thanked her and then even handed the rude masseuse a five dollar tip for my 10 minute massage. He continued to laugh. I shouldn't have even tipped him after his atrocious behavior, but I guess I'm just a better person than he is. Just a heads up if you still decide to go here, bring cash because they charge an additional 3.99% fee if you pay with a credit card. read more

For starters, during the quarantine my beautiful hard gel manicure grew out to something akin to Wolverine claws and I had to do something about it... so I went online to a DIY with pictures and took them off... It was an epically fantastic disaster! And I couldn't fix it! Nancy transformed my feet and went to work on my Quarantine Talons and Theresa filed away the residual hard gel that I had decided to coexist with because I felt like I'd get carpal tunnel if I continued to file away with an old school emery board! They came through in the clutch! The place looks as fabulous as ever with PPE and they are following disinfecting guidelines to a T! Not gonna lie, kinda felt like John Travolta in that bubble boy movie while getting my feet done... but you know what - they are back in business and I can stop with the fantastically bad DIY mani pedi! I walked in here last week to see if they had any availability. They politely told me if I did not have an appointment, they did not have availability for me. Mind you typically I quit my long-term nail places because they often prioritize walk-ins over the appointments because they'd rather just churn and burn than provide quality service. So this week I made an appointment and went in. One gal did my manicure and another my pedicure. Both were thorough and really paid close attention to detail. While the price point is higher than my usual nail place, I will go back here. She consciously messed up one of my nails, yet kept going. I didn't have time to sit and wait for her to do the whole thing over so I simply left. I usually have a great experience at this salon. Today the nail tech did a $40 gel manicure. Before she put the first coat of paint I asked if she could trim/cut the broken skin around the nails. Then she's applying the paint and continuously filing, while powder from doing so is getting onto the wet polish. In the middle of the appointment she said "please stop watching while I'm painting, look over here of there" while pointing over her shoulders.... I then asked if she has time to do a third cost as the coloring wasn't what I expected from two. You would think as a paying customer that isn't an unreasonable request. This was enough to make her grab my hand and shout "oh my god!" And pick up the bottle of paint again. I then pulled back into my seat and asked for the manager to take over, expressing that this is not a good fit. The tech went to the front and he took over, wiping paint from all around my fingertips, attempting to cut the cuticles and skin. Unfortunately he couldn't do anything about the uneven paint strokes or the powder residue that was stuck in the nail bed from the original tech. Nothing about this screams "fresh manicure" and while I understand there isn't much to work with here, I have always left with a much cleaner look. Upon check out the manager apologized for his employees poor job. The immediate attention to the matter was greatly appreciated. I was going to the bank to get cash to go to a different nail salon, upon seeing this salon right next to my bank I said - why not! and went in. They took me in right away. I have no problem with the results of my regular mani and pedi but it was an overall interesting experience - workers were gossipy and had an attitude. I don't love when I get separate people for hands and feet because tipping gets awkward and there was no reason to break up my services. What led me to write this review is mostly because they didn't know I could understand them but they were discussing how someone there will use the $75 pedicure materials for the $90 one and charge them $90. The place is clean and my pedicure was great but what was awful was the way I just witnessed "management" speaking/ berating an employee in front of everyone. A customer seemed unhappy with how her nails were looking as compared to a picture she showed the manicurist. Zero Stars - I have never been so heartbroken or mortified in my entire life. I have recently moved to this area and loved that Montvale Nail is seconds from my home. I literally walk or ride over ever 2-3 weeks. I was a loyal customer until yesterday's experience. I understand nail technician is a very tedious and detailed skill set. I appreciated my experience as all my expectations were met for the services I paid for. I never always leave happy and have recommended to my friends and bring family (daughter / mom when they visit) As always I go in for a pedicure / gel manicure / eyebrows and sometimes I'll have the 15min massage while the ladies are doing my manicure. That's my 2-3 week routine. I spend about $150 every time I go + $100 if my daughter comes with me (she'll do gel mani and pedi) as well. That's about $400-500 a month! Give or take!) 2 weeks ago I was checking out at the front and was short on cash - I was able to tip the ladies for my mani / pedi but I was a little short to tip the massage person a few dollars. Mind you this is a $15 massage that for 10mins. I was pressured by the receptionist "Oh you don't want to pay him too?" Completely confused by her question ! I was blindsided and I said - "oh no I have no more cash I'll get him next time for tip but you charged me the $15 right?" I thought for a second oh maybe it's not the tip she was asking for. She goes points at the ATM machine and goes we have machine you can get cash!! I was shocked!! I luckily scraped up $3 found rolled up in my jacket and was like "umm sorry - here I am don't want to be charged an atm fee this is all I have left. - I would've tipped him next time." Fast forward to yesterday. I was hesitant to go back but I love this salon - the ladies do such a great job and more importantly is so conveniently close to home. So I go in the hopes I can just chalk it off to a bad day for the receptionist. I come in no appointment - but they were happy to assist me! Ecstatic! I sat with the first woman doing my toes. She was beyond excellent! I opted for the Spa Pedicure $45 - no polish just cleaning - as it's winter & I don't show my toes I just let them breathe. Next I was moved to the second desk. I don't remember the woman's name but she was very very thorough and very nice/sweet- she did a great job and even did my eyebrows after. I was so happy with my experience I couldn't wait to book with her again. I had a Gel fill in done $65 + $12 for eyebrows.. $77 service + $15 massage All together I was charged for service of $135 + cc fee. I went back to tip the ladies $7 for the manicurist / $5 pedicure lady/ $3 massage guy. I have always tipped a few dollars anywhere I go - $5-7 dollars each - I had no idea it was an expectation to tip 20%! Well did I learn quickly yesterday! The woman stopped me in front of the entire salon "Excuse me were you not satisfied with your experience? I thought I did a very good job!" I replied "absolutely! You did a great job thank you so much!" She then replied back in annoyed tone "well...it's only because - usually people leave at least 20% this is not even 10%?" I was shocked!!!!!! Deer in headlights- I had no idea how to respond - Not to mention every worker/customer in the salon has now turned and looking over to us. I am beyond mortified bc I don't think what I gave was unreasonable! especially if I am already paying for a service? We live in NJ do people tip 20% for gas attendants? Do people tip 20% at mechanic? Do people tip 20% grocery store cashier? According to Merriam-Websters Dictionary Gratuity - something given voluntarily or beyond obligation usually for some service. - Not a Service Fee of 20%. Regardless of this - however the tip is done or should be done. Perhaps I am wrong - however, all I can really say is that in the manner it was done, to be scolded in front of the entire salon was so unprofessional and beyond rude - even worst not once but twice! Went there yesterday and got reprimanded in from of the whole salon for not tipping enough by the owner. Given I have LCN nails that were done 2 weeks earlier but completely chipped and cracked but I didn't complain just went to fill in and made no mention of it. I paid $72 and handed the lady her tip . The owner then looked over and started saying how long the lady took her time doing my nails and if I was pleased with them it's expected I leave 20% tip. I was mortified because it was done in front of the whole salon and she kept going on and on . If she felt that the tech deserved more money she should pay her worker more .
