Roger and Dagni care genuinely about each camper; they truly love and support each of their "children" at camp. The staff members are professional, always smiling, cheering and hugging. Their enthusiasm and spirit is contagious. Our children became better tennis players at camp, their swimming skills improved and their endurance levels climbed; but more importantly, they developed new passions, friends for life, and an incredible sense of spirit and adventure that I know will never fade. The variety of activities on A and B days is diverse, and always improving; from sports to arts, nature to science, cooking to fishing, there is something for every type of child. The field trips are highlights, the food is delicious, and the facilities are breathtaking. Camp Laurel South is a magical place that exposed our children to experiences and friendships that simply cannot be replaced. Best parenting decision we've made!

Fortunately, it's relatively close to the Jax area. The drive to our first Florida campout lead me to find Chiapinni's - a great cultural discovery along the way! The Camp is well laid out - with plenty of space for hundreds of campers. Each section has a dining area, bathroom and large fire ring - designed for the whole troop. They have an archery center, a BB gun range (for Cubs), pistol & rifle range (For Scouts & Venturers), climbing tower and a large lake for canoeing. There's a large dining facility for special occasions - but most groups cook on their own. The staff on all occasions that I went were adequate. Most events utilize a large number of volunteers to run efficiently. A relatively new addition is the pool with waterslides - definitely needed in the Florida summers!

Best area summer camp!…read more Camp Crystal, run by the Alachua County School Board, gives Alachua County kids the opportunity to attend a semi local sleep away camp. Area parents will love the shortness of the sessions (Sunday- Friday for one week campers, or Sunday- the following Friday for two week campers.), the short drive there (30-55 minutes depending where you live in Gainesville), and the lower cost (under $600 a child.) Kids will love the beautiful grounds, fun atmosphere, and the awesome classes (kayaking, paddle boarding, water sports, wake boarding, art, frisbee, newspaper, soccer, lacrosse, yoga, and so much more!) Because it is such a desirable summer camp, registration is not easy. Those who have attended a session can continue attending that session without much effort (with just a commitment and later payment) vs others (first time registrants or those looking to change sessions) who must be online at a precise moment and move quickly to try and snag the few available spots. Registering for the first time can be a stressful hassle, but it's absolutely worth it! Once your kids have attended this camp, you 100% understand why everyone is so desperate to have their kids attend. My daughter just completed her fifth year, while my son just completed his second year. Both absolutely loved it! My husband and I enjoyed the short week of no kids life, but loved being able to see and hear how they are doing through the Camp Minder email system, and the photos published nightly. Camp Crystal is truly the perfect taste of sleep away camp for us lucky enough to live in Alachua County!

My experience with Sun Country has been horrible from start to finish…read more If you have a child with any kind of special needs, I would avoid this place. My daughter was not treated with respect, and they dismissed her immediately and assumed she needed to be in a toddler class as a 4 year old. No steps were taken to ensure she felt welcomed or to slowly acclimate her into the class. When I sent them an email entailing my experience but it was left completely unanswered. No one responded to the email or called me to discuss my experience. I had to call them to ask for a refund. They told me a refund would be granted, but instead of a refund they charged me again!! So now I have two charges on my bank account for $205 and I have over $400 tied up. I called to ask about what happened and the response was "I don't know why you were charged twice" Still no manager has called me to rectify this situation. I'm sorely disappointed with my experience.

The park is beautiful, with lots of shade, water fountains, and benches, plus amenities like tennis, basketball, and a soccer field. I chose this park because it's known to be less crowded--great for dogs who are shy or don't always play well with others--and for the most part, it was peaceful. As we were leaving, another dog ran up to Valkyrie after being let off-leash, which was stressful given her fear and leash aggression. Thankfully, I was able to manage the situation quickly. Overall, it was a lovely spring break visit, and I'd definitely return. A great spot for both dogs and their humans!

All of the instructors and videographers were awesome and fun. I was lucky enough to have Art as my instructor. He's absolutely the best! So funny and cool. He made sure I had the best, most adrenaline fueled birthday ever!! I've done a lot of industrial health and safety work and I appreciated how Art and everyone else were constantly checking and double checking equipment, altitude, and time; and worked like a well oiled team - I felt no worries. I highly recommend purchasing the video package if it's your first jump. Scotty was my videographer and he did an amazing job! Those videographers are really crazy! I received a link to my video package within hours and love the amazing video they sent. Of course I've shared it with everyone I know!! But what really surprised me was the number of high quality photos they sent as well. So worth the money! Personally, I think you'd be crazy to jump the first time and not get the video/pictures. They sent me a link for a discounted second skydive and as soon as I get my taxes filed I'm taking advantage of it! If you're thinking about skydiving for the first time, go to Skydive Palatka, they will take good care of you!!

I was rudely informed that customers are expected to "plan on waiting hours to get their turn." It appears that this is actually a first come - first served operation. I was informed that, if I didn't like it, we could go somewhere else. We did! I've been involved in Army airborne operations for over 30 years and find Skydive Palatka unsatisfactory. A complex with restrooms, a play ground and tennis courts. Its a very nice complex. My only complaint is the parking. During tournament weekends its very very hard to find a parking spot. Not impossible, but very difficult. Other than that, great facility.
