This school has been amazing for our 2 boys. We moved here from Texas a year ago and immediately enrolled the boys upon meeting the teaching staff. We came from a Montessori school prior, so it was at least familiar materials and concepts for the boys during a rather difficult transition. The stability and structure of the school gives my boys great comfort. The teachers are consistent, loving, and work very hard in the classroom to help each child. What have we accomplished with this school? - My 5-year-old is reading. Very well. He is also a proficient writer, budding speller, and excelling in math. His social skills have had a chance to flourish and he enjoys helping kids younger than him learn things he has already mastered. - My 3-year-old is becoming a writer, mastering letter sounds, learning practical life skills, working on social skills, and making friends. - Personally, I feel that I have been given tools to help my kids at home through meaningful conferences, I have made friends (difficult after a big move), back up and support for any of my kids' challenging behaviors, and peace of mind that that are in a loving environment during the school day. This is a school, not a daycare, so if you are looking for flexible hours, flexible tuition, or zero responsibility on your end this is not the place for you. It is a collaborative effort between home and school. That being said, the teaching staff/ owner have gone above and beyond for my kids more than once. We are in our second year here (Kindergarten year and 2nd-year Montessori) and we will keep attending for the foreseeable future. Final thought: I am DELIGHTED at how my older son is progressing through his kindergarten year. I am so incredibly glad that we chose the third year of Montessori for him! I cannot say enough postive things about this school. We are nearing the end of our three year journey with them and my only complaint is that it is coming to an end as we will miss it dearly. The teachers at Montessori of Plainfield are AMAZING. My son started school as a young 3 year old who was very shy and timid, with his thumb in his mouth and brown blankie by his side. By the end of the first week brown blankie stayed home and he was excited to go to school each day. This school helped his personality shine through and he is now Mr. Social and loves making new friends, a drastic change from when we started. He will enter kindergarten reading at a 2nd/3rd grade level and 2nd grade level math. This school has been well worth the investment in the foundation for my son's education. We had a wonderful experience at Montessori of Plainfield. Our daughter went there for three years (two of preschool and kindergarten) and we loved it. The Montessori style of learning is kind, thoughtful, nurturing, and academic. Our daughter is in 3rd grade in public school now and continues to thrive. The materials and activities in the classroom are very creative and well contemplated. Each activity and method in the classroom is purposeful and promotes independence, responsibility, confidence and academics. We visited several preschools in the area before choosing Montessori of Plainfield and found that the others didn't compare in the quality and style of learning that Montessori of Plainfield offers. read more

Montessori of Plainfield is an incredible school with the heart of the child's individualized needs at the core. Miss Mari Ann has shared information with me that changed my perspective and helped me approach how my son was learning in a respectful and honoring way to him, things I would not have thought of. My son absolutely loves her. Miss Mari Ann seems devoted to her students and undoubtedly cares for each of them. My son, and others seem to have that look of feeling special and important when with her. Please be careful when signing a contract for this school. Especially if it is re-enrollement for the next year. I signed a contract for re-enrollment for my 2 children. Only to find out a few months later at the end of the school year they were changing teachers for the 3rd year in a row. Along with other reasons we made a family decision to not continue our kids education there and they are refusing to return my $900 deposit. read more

I have had children at Montessori of Plainfield for the past 9yrs because the teachers there have been true to the Montessori method and have gained my confidence in their care and respect for my children and our needs as a family. The teachers work one on one with each child and know exactly at what level to progress based on the child's needs. I am amazed at the level at which my children can read after having attended Montessori of Plainfield. Each child at their own level of course, but one of mine reached a 5th grade reading level. All the others were at least a 2nd grade level. And with math each child started at 2nd grade math coming out of Montessori. Montessori of Plainfield allows a child the freedom to achieve to the best of their abilities. My children continue to excel in school and I owe it to the strong foundation they received at Montessori. read more

We have had three kids graduate from Montessori of Plainfield and I would recommend this school and these wonderful teachers to anyone I know. If the school had continued past kindergarten, I would have happily kept my kids there through elementary. That's how enriching this school is. It's hard to describe a Montessori education to someone who isn't familiar with the philosophy, but what I found most important for my 3 very different kids is that it is individualized. Every child learns differently and is drawn to different materials. Montessori fosters their natural curiosity and feeds their love of learning by having a variety of teaching methods and materials. The teachers are so skilled at observing and assessing what a child might need and creatively meeting those needs. Every child works at their own pace. Instead of information being fed to them as in a traditional learning environment, they are active in their learning and have a variety of choices and approaches to explore. My kids also really benefited from the mixed age group. When a five year old has mastered a task, it's a beautiful thing to watch him help a three year old who is just starting out. This fostered my kids' self confidence and also helped them learn at an early age that we're all part of a community. In addition to the Montessori method, the very best attribute of Montessori of Plainfield are the directors and their staff of teachers. My kids were all taught by Mari-Ann, one of the directors, and you could honestly never find a better teacher, or a more loving and nurturing human being. She loves all of her students and Montessori families as if they were her own. This is so much more than a job to her. It's a passion and a calling. She gives 150% every day. My youngest child is on the autism spectrum and she struggled during those early years before diagnosis. Mari-Ann never gave up on trying to reach her. She didn't treat her like a behavior problem. She helped us figure out what was going on and she met my daughter where she was at, took her hand, and helped her move forward in a way that worked for her. That is a remarkable quality in a teacher. Watching her teach actually helped me be a better parent. I can't give any higher praise than that. read more

My two boys have been going to Montessori of Plainfield for 4 years with Ms. Kelly. I seriously can not say enough what a great education and caring environment it is. I love the montessori way of practical life skills as well as focusing on the world around us. Most preschool focus on play and learning a new routine. At Montessori, their handwriting is developed, letter sounds are focused on so reading comes early, and at Montessori everyone is friends with no one ever being left out. My kids take these life skills and bring them home and impress us every day. The cost is more than a typical preschool, but all the research shows early intervention in learning will make your kids excel and they are worth it! read more

Very disappointing. Attitude of teachers and administrators is not at all appropriate. They judge children as young as 4 year olds. They have set expectations on what the child should be doing and not working on what the child wants to do and how to make him learn. So non montessori. The worst part is they are judgmental all the time and sarcastic when asked about progress. They make you buy books worth $ 50-60 , nt seen it anywhere else. I have had wonderful experience in other 2 montessori schools where my older kid was. You can't even get out in the middle of the year because of the year old contract. i am glad the year is over and that I was there only one year. Please think again before you consider this school. Montessori of Plainfield has caring and nurturing teachers. I sent two children there, and both had positive learning and social experiences. The teachers work hard to tailor their instructions to each child through individual and small group lessons. The school is academically-focused, and the children there will learn to read, write, add, subtract and multiply and think critically at a young age. Both my children were well-prepared for elementary school. Some of the educational highlights include working on maps of the world, learning about the flags of the world, watching chicks hatch from their eggs and watching a butterfly being released into the wild. During our tenure there, the school offered field trips to the Morton Arboretum and to see a live theater production at the Drury Lane Children's Theatre. There's also a nice Christmas program for families. Both my children had Miss Kelly and she was a wonderful teacher to begin their educational journey. We appreciate all Miss Kelly did for our kids. read more
