Each visit we've been greeted by a kind staff member upon entering and quickly seated. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and their menu is vast and boasts dishes rich in flavors. The servers for our two separate visits were both friendly and patient and guided us through their offerings with genuine enthusiasm. They were also knowledgeable and attentive throughout our visit. The food is ok and the service isn't that great. They all seem to act like you bother them if you ask for something but they hardly ever come back to the table for anything. We both love the tacos, they have a special on them on taco Monday n Tuesday. Their custard ( Flan) is so amazing! The Pocco meal was mediocre but I would eat it again. Ok I have probably eaten at this Mexican restaurant the most of any in Cleveland. I started eating right when I moved here back in 2001. Also, I came here for lunch a lot because they have a lunch special and they were pretty fast in serving it before I had to go back to work. I usually get a combination dinner which includes 3 items. Ok, I think they are the most reasonable Mexican restaurant in Cleveland. Me and my friend ate tonight for a total of $16.90, see picture. Now, that is a good deal. The chips and sausa pleases my appetite for every time I visit. It's convenient right off one of the main roads here in the central part of Cleveland. Service has always been very attentive to us every time I visit. The food is always good. Overall, I really like this Mexican restaurant. After all, I have been coming since 2001 when there wasn't much choice to choose from in going to a Mexican restaurant at that specific time or era. Food was horrible. We ordered fajitas and a Monterey bowl and both had beef and chicken. The chicken was tasteless and the beef was tough fatty and grizzly. both were supposed to have onions and they were very few. The fajitas were loaded with nasty tomatoes. And we saw no bell pepper in the fajitas but may be a small piece or two. Needless to say WORST Mexican food ever. Will not be back. read more

I used to love this place. It was by far my favorite place in Cleveland to eat. However, the past three times I have eaten here, the food has been sub par at best. For example, this past visit, the chips that are served before the meal were very stale, but as always, the salsa was perfect. I ordered a full order of nachos as my meal. The rice tasted like it had been sitting in water for a long time and had lost all flavor. I haven't ate here in years so I thought I'd give it a try one day. I wish I hadn't. The service was pretty good and our waitress was attentive but the food was the worst Mexican food in town and I've ate at nearly every Mexican restaurant here. The chips and salsa were inedible. The chips seemed a bit stale and the salsa (like another reviewer said) is tomato sauce. I was completely baffled by it, I've never seen just plain red sauce as 'salsa'! There were no onions or peppers or cilantro, nothing! The first cup of salsa was too spicy for me to even eat and when she brought another cup it just tasted sweet like tomato sauce. The food came out unusually quick. I ordered enchiladas and tacos with beans. I couldn't finish it because it wasn't good at all. The red sauce tasted like it was from a can, I could only taste cheese on the taco, and the beans were ok but there wasn't much cheese on them. I didn't like any of the tortillas. The taco was too brown and the soft tortillas had hard spots near the edges (stale). Everything was just bland and did not taste like real Mexican cooking even. Staff has always been respectful, keep your glass full and a fresh basket of chips and salsa on the table. Food is standard for the Mexican food scene in Cleveland, I would rate them slightly higher than others though. My typical go to dishes are the chicken or Texas fajitas, street tacos, or a burrito. (Can't go wrong with those). I have tried the tilapia covered with the chipotle sauce or "Filete De Pescado a La Diabla", I would not recommend. First time eating at this restaurant. Went with friends, everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. I tried the Pollo Chipotle, which was really good. The lunch portions were the right size. The restaurant was more like a cafe setting (looked like it was originally a Denny's). I was a little surprised to see the hostess reach under the stand to grab menus AND chips and salsa (unrefrigerated from inside the host station itself), as she seated us. I live in Arlington Heights, IL. I was visiting family in TN and my sister brought me to Monterrey's for lunch. My first visit I ordered the Special Veracruz. It was delicioso! Our server was impeccable and received at least a 50% tip from me. I am in the business folks and I enjoy doing this when I am eating out. I know how hard they work. I loved it so much I asked her to bring me back a couple days later. I again ordered the Special Veracruz and it was again delicioso! My server wasn't as impeccable so that was somewhat of a disappointment. He still received a great tip but not 50% due to the fact that he never came back to our table to ask how our meal was or refill our drinks. We saw him with the checks at the end. A big no,no, in the restaurant business. He should have checked back 5 minutes after the food was dropped. I would definitely check this place out and order the Special Veracruz! Yummy! I still gave 5 stars to Monterrey's because the food was so good. No restaurant is perfect and I will definitely be back my next visit!!! I left you a photo of my delicious meal. Really missed the mark. I don't think the chef understands Mexican food. Had the Fajitas and the Chile Colorado. The meat was swapped on the two dishes. Fajitas are strips sizzling on the plate, Chili Colorado is chunks of beef in a red sauce. The Fajitas were chunks and the Chili was strips. We used to visit and like this place when we lived in Cleveland, so we chose it, unfortunately, over the other Mexican restaurants now in town. The service was poor--our waitress seemed very distracted. The food quality was very bad. There was water soaking the chimichanga from the salad on the plate, and the chile relleno was a piece of chile covering some meat--definitely not what we expected having ordered this dish all over the country and in Mexico. Also, the plate for the chile relleno was dangerously hot--not very safe for children at a table. I gave them one star because the food came out very fast--although we would much have preferred waiting for a good quality meal. As we were leaving I tried to speak to the cashier and the manager, but they seemed quite aloof and more interested in their own conversation. I ordered a enchilada dish that had was supposed to have 4 kinds of enchiladas on it; but I only got chicken and 3 of them instead of 4. No special sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole etc. basically it was 3 white corn and White chicken meat enchiladas. While they were good, it was not what I ordered. This is our usual go to Mexican restaurant since moving to Cleveland! We usually have a pretty satisfying meal. Most of the time we pick up food. I was somewhat disappointed with their shrimp and chicken fajitas the first time We picked them up and brought them home. I believe I received the veggie fajitas instead of shrimp and chicken. Total of 2 shrimp and the chicken was in such small pieces I was pretty disappointed! But.. I did have a whole foil plate full of onions and bell peppers! Like I said, they were veggie fajitas instead of meat. On top of that our salsa and 2 entrees of beans were upside down in our bag, which leaked out into our car floorboard and completely saturated the bag and ruined those entrees. So yes, not a good experience with their takeout food! My daughter ordered the taco salad. But I'm not sure there was any lettuce in the actual salad. But there were a lot of onions and bell peppers which she asked to be removed. And very little meat! I give them a 1 on following take out order instructions!
