Monterrey Mexican Restaurant has become our go-to place in the area for very good, reliable, fairly priced Mexican food with great service. Each visit we've been greeted by a kind staff member upon entering and quickly seated. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and their menu is vast and boasts dishes rich in flavors. The servers for our two separate visits were both friendly and patient and guided us through their offerings with genuine enthusiasm. They were also knowledgeable and attentive throughout our visit. Our menu favorites and recommended trys are their: Flautas, Carnitas Fajitas, Sopes, Chile Relleno, and Corn In A Cup. All delicious! Monterrey's exceptional service, fair prices, and great food will have us returning again and again. read more

I miss the old Monterrey's. Service is not the same anymore and neither is the food. I stood at the front waiting for at least 10 minutes before I was finally acknowledged. My order was not correct either. I got burritos instead of chimichangas. Don't think I will return. read more

idk why they only have 3 stars on here the food is great and the service is exactly what I expect from a restaurant that stays constantly busy and packed. the amount of people there ona. Friday Saturday night proves how much it's loved by clevelanders. the sopes with chorizo are my all time favorite! also the Torta with carnitas or steak, absolutely delicious! also one of the few places that's got good tasting salsa. our favorite in Cleveland for sure! read more

The food is ok and the service isn't that great. They all seem to act like you bother them if you ask for something but they hardly ever come back to the table for anything. We both love the tacos, they have a special on them on taco Monday n Tuesday. Their custard ( Flan) is so amazing! The Pocco meal was mediocre but I would eat it again. So far nothing we got stands out at all. It's edible. We have gone 3 times so far. Last time we decided not to chance it n just get the hard shell tacos. read more

Ok I have probably eaten at this Mexican restaurant the most of any in Cleveland. I started eating right when I moved here back in 2001. Also, I came here for lunch a lot because they have a lunch special and they were pretty fast in serving it before I had to go back to work. I usually get a combination dinner which includes 3 items. Ok, I think they are the most reasonable Mexican restaurant in Cleveland. Me and my friend ate tonight for a total of $16.90, see picture. Now, that is a good deal. The chips and sausa pleases my appetite for every time I visit. It's convenient right off one of the main roads here in the central part of Cleveland. Service has always been very attentive to us every time I visit. The food is always good. Overall, I really like this Mexican restaurant. After all, I have been coming since 2001 when there wasn't much choice to choose from in going to a Mexican restaurant at that specific time or era. Furthermore, try coming here during lunch when their lunch menu is at a value price. In other words, it's even cheaper to come here during the work week for lunch. read more

This is a Cleveland TN favorite, according to locals. American Mexican food, this family establishment has down to earth friendly service, and they make your food fairly fast! Their house salsa is really mild. Prices and portions are great. They can also accommodate large parties with ease. Be sure to check out their weekly dine in specials and 99 cent hard tacos! read more

Best Tacos Of My Life they were so yummy in my tummy and they were so scrump didly upmshish. I think every human being in America or Mexico should come here. The managers son was the nicest guy in the whole entire world he welcomed everybody into the restaurant. 10/10 WOULD 100% RECOMMEND! read more

Food was horrible. We ordered fajitas and a Monterey bowl and both had beef and chicken. The chicken was tasteless and the beef was tough fatty and grizzly. both were supposed to have onions and they were very few. The fajitas were loaded with nasty tomatoes. And we saw no bell pepper in the fajitas but may be a small piece or two. Needless to say WORST Mexican food ever. Will not be back. read more

We're loyal customers and enjoy the great food and service. We go often and never have had a problem or bad food.

One of the best restaurants I've been to the best service and the manager welcomed me and my family with open arms 10/10 totally recommend going there. read more

My husband and I were in town for a wedding and we decided to try this place out. This place did not disappoint! The portions of food were more than enough! The good also has an authentic Mexican food taste. Would 100% recommend this place! read more

Decided to stop in here for lunch, first time. Ordered the grilled steak chimi. Plenty of food, and it was smothered in cheese sauce. Flavorful, however a bit too much "sauce" for me. Next time I will ask for it on the side. Chips seemed fresh, salsa was not my favorite though. The server was attentive and prices fair. read more

I haven't ate here in years so I thought I'd give it a try one day. I wish I hadn't. The service was pretty good and our waitress was attentive but the food was the worst Mexican food in town and I've ate at nearly every Mexican restaurant here. The chips and salsa were inedible. The chips seemed a bit stale and the salsa (like another reviewer said) is tomato sauce. I was completely baffled by it, I've never seen just plain red sauce as 'salsa'! There were no onions or peppers or cilantro, nothing! The first cup of salsa was too spicy for me to even eat and when she brought another cup it just tasted sweet like tomato sauce. The food came out unusually quick. I ordered enchiladas and tacos with beans. I couldn't finish it because it wasn't good at all. The red sauce tasted like it was from a can, I could only taste cheese on the taco, and the beans were ok but there wasn't much cheese on them. I didn't like any of the tortillas. The taco was too brown and the soft tortillas had hard spots near the edges (stale). Everything was just bland and did not taste like real Mexican cooking even. I might be ruined for Mexican places because I love La Altena and won't be returning here. read more

If you like very very bland no taste food give this place a try. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and to be honest they were piss poor. Doesnt even come with beans. .. ordered a side of guacamole and it looked like green sour cream definately pre packaged and not fresh. The service was good.. over priced for the quantity. read more

I used to love this place. It was by far my favorite place in Cleveland to eat. However, the past three times I have eaten here, the food has been sub par at best. For example, this past visit, the chips that are served before the meal were very stale, but as always, the salsa was perfect. I ordered a full order of nachos as my meal. The cheese was scarce and there were literally 15 chips. This is unacceptable for a "full"order. My wife ordered cheesy Mexican rice. The rice tasted like it had been sitting in water for a long time and had lost all flavor. The food was miserable, and the only reason this was a two star review (instead of one) was because the service was good. I'm usually very lenient and understanding with restaurants and service as I used to be a waiter and know the difficulties of working in a restaurant, but this meal was so bad that I had to do a review. read more

Another good Mexican restaurant chain with a twist. They offer low carb, vegetarian and Kid's meals. They have most of the typical stuff along with several unique items like shrimp or spinich quesadillas. read more

I live in Arlington Heights, IL. I was visiting family in TN and my sister brought me to Monterrey's for lunch. My first visit I ordered the Special Veracruz. It was delicioso! Our server was impeccable and received at least a 50% tip from me. I am in the business folks and I enjoy doing this when I am eating out. I know how hard they work. I loved it so much I asked her to bring me back a couple days later. I again ordered the Special Veracruz and it was again delicioso! My server wasn't as impeccable so that was somewhat of a disappointment. He still received a great tip but not 50% due to the fact that he never came back to our table to ask how our meal was or refill our drinks. We saw him with the checks at the end. A big no,no, in the restaurant business. He should have checked back 5 minutes after the food was dropped. I would definitely check this place out and order the Special Veracruz! Yummy! I still gave 5 stars to Monterrey's because the food was so good. No restaurant is perfect and I will definitely be back my next visit!!! I left you a photo of my delicious meal. My meal consisted of Tilapia (you have a choice of garlic seasoning or lemon). I chose garlic and ordered fresh lemon to squeeze on the fish myself. It also is topped with shrimp in the same seasoning and grilled, fresh vegetables and Mexican rice on the side. read more

Poor alcohol service. I told our waiter that i wanted the largest beer order possible. I then explained that I drink fast and would like another tall order. He looked at my date and asked her if she was driving....really? When I finished the first he brought me another and then the check. He Didn't ask at all if I wanted another beer or anything...I wanted to spend a lot more money but I guess he didn't want me so we left with giving no tip and we went somewhere else. read more

Food is excellent! Second time here but beer selection is not that great. Very friendly service, was better the first time than the second time. But is a very good restaurant considering Cleveland options. Fish tacos were a little floppy and sad, but some other great options like steak fajitas. read more

First time eating at this restaurant. Went with friends, everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. I tried the Pollo Chipotle, which was really good. The lunch portions were the right size. The restaurant was more like a cafe setting (looked like it was originally a Denny's). I was a little surprised to see the hostess reach under the stand to grab menus AND chips and salsa (unrefrigerated from inside the host station itself), as she seated us. I would return as I did enjoy the food. read more

There is usually a crowd at dinner time, lunch as well. Avoid this place on a Sunday after church, you will not be seated quickly. Atmosphere is pretty laid back. Staff has always been respectful, keep your glass full and a fresh basket of chips and salsa on the table. Plenty of food for the price, if you leave hungry and without a carry out box, it is your fault. Food is standard for the Mexican food scene in Cleveland, I would rate them slightly higher than others though. My typical go to dishes are the chicken or Texas fajitas, street tacos, or a burrito. (Can't go wrong with those). I have tried the tilapia covered with the chipotle sauce or "Filete De Pescado a La Diabla", I would not recommend. Not because of the heat, I just feel like it is lacking in flavor. I have also ordered DoorDash through this establishment, they often leave out parts of the order (tortillas, side items, drinks, etc.). read more

Really missed the mark. I don't think the chef understands Mexican food. Had the Fajitas and the Chile Colorado. The meat was swapped on the two dishes. Fajitas are strips sizzling on the plate, Chili Colorado is chunks of beef in a red sauce. The Fajitas were chunks and the Chili was strips. The Fajitas were not sizzling, they were just sitting on a warm plate. Just not good. The waitress was nice. read more

We used to visit and like this place when we lived in Cleveland, so we chose it, unfortunately, over the other Mexican restaurants now in town. The service was poor--our waitress seemed very distracted. The food quality was very bad. There was water soaking the chimichanga from the salad on the plate, and the chile relleno was a piece of chile covering some meat--definitely not what we expected having ordered this dish all over the country and in Mexico. Also, the plate for the chile relleno was dangerously hot--not very safe for children at a table. I gave them one star because the food came out very fast--although we would much have preferred waiting for a good quality meal. As we were leaving I tried to speak to the cashier and the manager, but they seemed quite aloof and more interested in their own conversation. So we just walked out, and will not walk back in! read more

We hadn't eat there in about a year and the Mexican place next door was closed. The service was adequate and the tacos were good but 6 Mexican style tacos, 1 whole sliced avocado, $2 cheese dip, and 2 waters was over $27. Never again, could've gotten the same thing from my favorite place with 2 sides of beans and rice for $20. read more

This is a great find! A must have entree is the "Pollo Loco". The salsa and chips are fresh and homemade. Great prices too!!

I'm new to Cleveland and if this is the best Mexican food in town than Mexican food in this town sucks. The hostess was nice. We sat down, the salsa is tomato sauce. The margaritas had no taste, my waiter didn't know what guacamole was so we had him ask and they only have the blended avacado/sour cream junk...eww. I had the "famous must try" pollo loco. It's not the best but I ate it. I don't like to trash talk a place but I went there because of yelp, and yelp did me wrong. I'll never go back to this place. Ever read more

Always very good food at good prices. Good salsa too. Only fault is the service isn't always up to par. My favorite is the pollo picosso.

We had a party of 22 in the private room and only one server for us. So lots of mix ups and very slow service. The salsa was the consistency of tomato sauce and very little flavor. I ordered a enchilada dish that had was supposed to have 4 kinds of enchiladas on it; but I only got chicken and 3 of them instead of 4. No special sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole etc. basically it was 3 white corn and White chicken meat enchiladas. While they were good, it was not what I ordered. Our bill was also incorrect but we just paid it. The food was pretty good but it was hard to get past the poor service. read more

Very disappointing service and food. Beware of anything fried. It taste like they never change their oil.

Stopped on a wim, usually love Mexican. Ordered quesadillas. Absolutely horrible. There was wet lettuce and tomatoes place on top of quesadilia making top tortilla soggy and bottom tortilla must have been placed on a wet plate, making for a soggy mess. Couldn't find cheese and meat was all in center. Waitress not interested. read more

This is our usual go to Mexican restaurant since moving to Cleveland! We usually have a pretty satisfying meal. Most of the time we pick up food. I was somewhat disappointed with their shrimp and chicken fajitas the first time We picked them up and brought them home. I believe I received the veggie fajitas instead of shrimp and chicken. Total of 2 shrimp and the chicken was in such small pieces I was pretty disappointed! But.. I did have a whole foil plate full of onions and bell peppers! Like I said, they were veggie fajitas instead of meat. On top of that our salsa and 2 entrees of beans were upside down in our bag, which leaked out into our car floorboard and completely saturated the bag and ruined those entrees. So yes, not a good experience with their takeout food! My daughter ordered the taco salad. But I'm not sure there was any lettuce in the actual salad. But there were a lot of onions and bell peppers which she asked to be removed. And very little meat! I give them a 1 on following take out order instructions! We have had this happen numerous times with our call in orders! Always in a hurry and never correct when we get them home. read more

Been going here since I was itty bitty. Absolutely love the food. It has changed slightly over the years after there was a change in management/owners, but management is extremely nice.
