I chose the Chinese eggplants because they were the most beautiful of the 4 types of eggplant available

The quality, variety and price of the produce is unparalleled in any other retail market in the area. Sometimes I come in with a specific list and other times I just see what looks amazing. There are typically samples of the seasonal fruits so you can decide which of the 8 nectarine/peach varieties you like best. It gets CROWDED on the weekends so if you are in a rush, or tend to get grumpy, claustrophobic or annoyed, just stay away. The aisles and parking will be a thing that haunts you for days. If you can just be chill, drive around to find a decent street spot, or brave the lot with stupid, inconsiderate drivers, then navigate your cart with humor, you'll be fine. Otherwise, come on a weekday. If you stick with the produce, you'll be surprised by how much you can get for a decent price. If you start pulling things off their grocery shelves (great quality items), that's where you will end up with sticker shock. Bon Appetit!

This is the best fresh food I always do shopping in this beautiful market and today I decided to write a review just thank montery market for the great service thank you all .

Ah yes and yes! It's a must checkout place even if you don't buy anything. I unfortunately do since I'm a regular customer. I come twice a month, will depends sometimes I went through a phase where I came here almost every week. I had to cut down lol But I love their fresh farmer market veggies. One downside of it is I wish the place is a bigger, parking can be hard sometimes if you go in high peaks traffic hours. Best time to go is really early or between 2-3pm after lunch with the traffic dies down a bit. Also wish the place was a bit cleaner, but then again what do you expect most farmer market places like this are similar so that's not a big deal as long as their fresh veggies and produce is cleaned that's all that matters. I usually come here for their fresh veggies and mushrooms they have all sorts of different ones. FYI if you love bagels and cream cheese like me definitely grab a few here and their cream cheese they got is so good. I'm all about fresh homemade bagels and have high expectations of it being in a family that are in the bagel business.

This market needs a major renovation. Small crowded aisles, and I find the customers to be surly and disgruntled.

I love fruit stands! This place has a great variety and decent prices. It can get crowded so best to go at an off peak hour.

A must for us every single visit is the Honey Glow pineapple -- if you haven't tried one, you're missing out. They are incredibly sweet, almost like biting into pure sugar, but in the most natural and refreshing way. It's the kind of fruit that's hard to find at your average grocery store, and Berkeley Bowl delivers consistently. Beyond the pineapple, the quality across the board is impressive. The blueberries are plump and flavourful, the oranges are bright and juicy, and the wider fruit selection never fails to catch our eye. It's clear that real care goes into sourcing what ends up on those shelves. For anyone living in or passing through the East Bay, Berkeley Bowl is absolutely worth a stop. It's one of those places that makes grocery shopping genuinely enjoyable, and the produce alone is reason enough to visit.

Not as reasonable as they used to be back in the day, but reasonable enough. I love the bulk section of foods. And I love the fact that the organic food is not as expensive as it is in other places, but it has a really good quality. They have a nice selection of foods and you can get a lot of different things. They do have some specialty sections, such as English foods, Italian foods, Mexican foods, Asian foods, etc. I can cook something from another cuisine and often find those ingredients there. I could find lime leaves for a dish that I was making and they only cost $.99. They also have banana leaves that I can buy if I want to use. The meat counter is nice and the people who work there are generally very nice. Another thing I like about the store is that it's nice and clean. The aisles are OK and you can pass by. And when waiting in line for your food if people are shopping, it can get a little crowded, but it's not uncomfortable. The only thing I would tell you not to do here is to return something because they do not want to give you your money back even when you do have a receipt. And when they do give you your money, you get all kind of attitude. I would suggest coming here, which is something that I do when I'm in the area. I usually go to the other Berkeley bowl because it's closer to the freeway and I can drive up quite quickly. But I forgot, this used to be a Safeway, so unlike their original location, which is now a car dealership, and before that was a bowling alley, this space was built for retail of food. I like that I can always find something here when I need to.

One particular offputting moment was when my parents casually brought up Costco durians in conversation to each other and the sales person immediately cut off my parents to say that we should just go to Costco if we want lower class durian. I think there was definitely some major miscommunication. Maybe we're just not the target audience, but then who is the target audience if not fellow Southeast Asian durian lovers?!?!? We pulled in through the gates and saw a small field of flowers to the left, along with a shed-like structure and a house in the back. The right side was pretty empty; I'm guessing whatever was growing there had already been harvested. We stood around for a few mins pretty confused about how it all worked. We found a sign saying that CSA members get to cut for free and a pricing chart for non-members. There were clippers and a knife sitting next to a stack of boxes, so we grabbed one of each and headed for the garden. The selection wasn't quite what we expected, but we still got a great bunch of flowers and sunflowers. Some were a little difficult to access from the walkways, so we just tried to be as careful as possible. When we were done, we tried to pay, but there wasn't really a designated place to leave money, so we just stuck it under a box inside the shed area (I hope they got it!). Very cute place! A little confusing for first-timers, but overall a nice experience.

They also offer their fruit preserves on a discount that is much cheaper than in stores or online. Their apricot preserves is one of their best ones and has the least amount of sugar.
