Had a good time until the end, went to close out my tab and there was a huge line, my friend and I talked to a huge group in front of us in line and they said it was totally fine if I cut in front of them to close my tab and leave, bartender proceeded to yell at me to get back to the back of the line and would not let me close out after repeatedly trying to explain that I had gotten the OK to go ahead and close my tab out.. he was extremely rude, wouldn't not go. read more

Fun spot downtown. Drinks are drinks. This bar is known for karaoke and pizza. Dropped in for a bit tonight and it was entertaining watching everyone sing along to popular songs. The crowd is definitely very young so I felt out of place, but it's fun nonetheless to grab a drink or two if you're in the area. read more

Went there with a group after a convention on a Tuesday. I live in Spokane though. Food: Pizza was great, sold by the slice and a great late snack. They had a full menu. The guy cooking was very friendly. I also saw him cooking and he was very clean and neat which I like to see at a late night bar. Staff: In general very nice. Bartender sang. Karaoke: We went here for this and it was very off putting. The DJ made people PAY $20 to get their song above her friends. If you didn't pay you waited in the queue while her friends sang over and over. There was a line of people from our convention waiting to get in. Many people left early as this killed the vibe. we initially came here cause we thought they had karaoke. I think they do but just not when we went there sadly. there is no private parking here it is street parking, we did not drive so I cannot say if it is easy or not to find parking in this area but it looked pretty ok. as we came in we noticed that this is not a very large place and I am not sure why they call themselves cafe cause I did not see any coffee being served here lol they have a full bar with is pretty great and their prices are pretty ok. adjacent to the bar there is a little pizza stand and let me tell you that their pizzas are no joke, they are pretty good. the bartender was pretty great and she let us take care of the music and we managed all the music in the spot so we had a great time while we ate there. if you come here the calzones are where it is at. just be advised that the calzones take longer to get cooked but it is totally worth the wait, trust me on that one: MAC DADDY- what a great calzone, it is Mac and cheese with garlic sauce wrapped into a calzone ( all calzones can be made into pizza style and vise versa) it was the best choice I made here. I do not regret at all ordering pasta inside of pasta, it was so delicious I wish I had ordered 2 of them. PIZZA FROM HELL- my friend got this one as a calzone as well, he was used to spicy food and we had some latinos with us but this was so spicy nobody was able to eat this. so I would say only order this one if you have a death wish or want an ulcer. another friend ordered an regular pizza and I didn't think is was as good as the calzone versions of the meals so again I would say to order them as a calzone. these dishes are very large, I split my calzone with one more person and it was plenty for both of us. this is a great place for pizza, I can safely say It was the best pizza I had in this state. read more

I have never been treated so poorly in my life! I was left in complete shock. My fiancé and I went on a Wednesday night at 8pm to grab a slice of pizza before we went out to go see some live music near by at another bar. The security checked our ID at the entrance and then the bartender walks up to us to ask us for our ID too. My fiancé told him the security just checked it and so he didn't understand why we needed it checked again especially since we are just grabbing a slice of pizza. The bartender freaked out and said "I'm the bartender and I can ask for your ID if I want and if you don't like it then you can get the F*** out of here" then continued to yell at us to get the F*** out. We then walked over to grab the pizza we had already paid for. I was just shocked! This bartender had to be drunk to act that way. Ruined our night! Don't recommend this place to anyone! unless you want to be treated like crap! Food review: Cheese pizza was the only one that was fresh, Hawaiian was old and Made my fiancé sick. read more

I've heard about this place for years, and friends of ours took us here on a double date. I have to say some of the best pizza I've ever had.... top 5 on the west coast... Best I've had in the greater Spokane area! Very small location, seating for probably 20. The ONLY reason they didn't get 5 stars... Is our cheesy bread was WAY undercooked. They were very apologetic, and promptly resolved the situation. Our server was very friendly, prompt and courteious. We WILL be eating here more often. read more

What an incredible find on a Tuesday night! It just so happens that it was half price pizza night and karaoke starting at 9 PM!! The HUGE pizzas ordered: The Beachcomber and the Wingman. The crust chosen was the hand tossed thick crust since the server advised us that the thin crust really does not do a good job of holding all the toppings. The taste in itself was average; probably because I am not really a hot wings guy however the Beachcomber was better with the bacon/meat. If I were to order again, I'd go with something with bell peppers, mushrooms, onions to liven it up AND with the thin crust option. Just a note, order one pizza first as they are gigantic. We ordered two pizzas for 4 people and still had a whole pizza left. The karaoke was interesting and fun. Many regulars and great singers. I could have sworn that Shakira reborn showed up and amazed us all. A few funky performers sung up a storm as they were a-hoppin' and a-skipping around the tables. The lively crowd sung along with most of the songs and had a grand 'ol time. From what I hear, they have karaoke every night there. Check it out, highly recommended. Arrived around 830pm in a Friday night. Not really busy. karaoke was happening which seemed like a really fun crowd. Stood at the pizza counter to order for awhile, no one came to help us (there was a guy in back making pizzas and a female walking from the counter to the bar area) so we sat down and waited a bit. 5 minutes later we started seeing other people arrive and order (from the guy in the back) so we went to order. Waited for a bit to be noticed... again.... finally got our pizza which was pretty good. $1 a slice and the slices were fairly large. They had 2 kinds already made, pepperoni and cheese. Wasn't sure of pricing or if we could order a whole pizza or if there were other items available as there was no menu and had a hard time getting someone to help us. Cheap pizza and pretty servers makes Monterey Cafe pretty cheap. Two slices of pre-made pizza for $5 offered a quick lunch. One slice of white pizza with chicken was different while another featured a huge thin pepperoni slice. They pizza wasn't good. The pizza wasn't terrible. The pizza was simply cheap. A Ninkasi Total Domination IPA made the lunch a whole hell of a lot better. There aren't any draft beers at Monterey Cafe. Bottled-beer and pizza go together at home, so, why not at Monterey Cafe? Two other things that go together are cheerful and charismatic ... like the delightful duo working at Monterey Cafe during the lunch break. The bar is on the left side of the restaurant and the pizza is on the right when you first enter. Both sides had fantastic friendly service. One of the better pizza places in Spokane. A good atmosphere at night, and I believe it changes to no kids at 9 PM if you are looking for a bar. BBQ chicken pizza is amazing, Texas Hold 'Em is the name. All the pizzas have inventive names. Other good ones are the Mac Daddy, Wingman, and Gunslinger. Little on the expensive side, but I have had the benefit of going here for work (where I probably won't be cutting the check) so that has been alright for me. Overall, a good pizza place. Pickup is a bit of a challenge if you are looking to take it home. Parking is hard to find, so I would suggest taking a team of 2 and having one pickup while the other drives around the block. I am disappointed by this business because me and my friend went out with all her other friends and we were not able to go to the bathroom together. Us as girls are uncomfortable going to the bathroom with out another person. It is not safe to be alone in public spaces. So we got kicked out by Monterey Café employees because we went to the bathroom together. I wish that they would understand that girls need to go to the bathroom together. Hit or miss pizza. Sometimes the pizza is awesome, sometimes it's just ok. And I'm talking sober experiences here, but not all of them. The Tuesday $10 full pizza deal is awesome though! Pizzas are one size, which is like 24 inches or so. This is a karaoke bar at heart though. Well and if you're into that, it's a pretty good one. Very small place, I won't say there is much room to shake your ass. Which also is what it needs in my opinion. Gets packed quickly, but beer prices and good. Beer selection ain't to bad either. Island theme is fun. While I wouldn't give this place top marks for it's friendliest service, it's usually a quick service and relatively friendly. If you're new to town, not a regular or not friends with the KJ,,, Don't expect to get up and sing. I have been away from Spokane for about 5 years and (a former KJ myself). I Came back in tonight (not packed) around 1015 and waited till about 1145 to sing. I watched duplicate singers and people literally riding skateboards coming in, high five staff and on to sing. The 3rd time I came up and asked about why I was skipped, I was told they called my name several times.... It's cool. I just won't be back along with my wallet. read more

Very quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Spokane. Whether it's for lunch with their delectable, affordable pizza, or at night for their equally amazing karaoke (of which, humblebrag; I am the king), I'm consistently impressed by the cool, casual atmosphere and friendly staff. The scenery might be going for something...tropical? But it reminds me of 90s Nickelodeon, which is more than OK with me. You can catch me here perhaps a little too often in the future. read more

Recently I enjoyed a night out with family, and we had a freakin' BLAST here. But this review isn't based off of one night in good company: it's the full history of the beautiful and sad. Here's what Monterey does well: - the karaoke crowd is a mixed bag of serious singers and weirdos - the people on staff have are quite welcoming. I'm pretty sure they use this line on multiple people, but we were once told, "This place was dull before you got here!" I choose to believe it anyway. - Lagunitas. I love Lagunitas. - there is food available The room for improvement: - during karaoke, for the love of God if a song is "too long," let the person know instead of letting them sit expectantly. Hot tip: they don't allow songs over 5 minutes. - the pepperoni pizza is not considered good if you are an adventurous eater. (I haven't had any others.) read more

As a karaoke junkie who also likes beer and pizza, you can imagine that the Monterey Cafe is a preferred hangout of mine; at least, it used to be. I have less free time these days and have only been once in the past few months. Two things I noticed on my most recent visit, which was in October of 2015: first, they reconfigured the inside of the bar, which makes the bar itself easier to access but also puts the karaoke "station" in the back and makes of it an afterthought. "Big deal," you may be thinking, and if you are not someone who regularly needs their singing fix, then you might be right. However, on this last visit, I notice that the location of the girl running the karaoke made it very difficult for her to get the attention of the bar patrons in general, which made for one large area of conversation and one small area of singing, never the twain shall meet. Hopefully she can overcome this schism, because when karaoke was a focal point, this bar was a lot of fun. The pizza here has always been very good. It is a bit pricy, but I have never ordered a pie at Monterey and been unahppy with it. I can't remember what my wife and I ordered this last time, but I do remember eating one more slice than I should have and greedily devouring leftovers the next day. Come for the drinks and pizza, and consider staying for the karaoke. Some of us would definitely appreciate it. :) read more

Last Friday, we waited with a group of a half dozen for near 45 minutes for our songs to come up, and at the last second the woman running the thing told us that she was giving our friend's song AND spot in line away to another guy who'd wanted to do my friend's song and paid her $20 to jack his spot. No offer to change songs, no discussion, and damn sure no backbone to tell this dude "No." Just said, "This is how I make my living, so I'm giving it to him because he paid me." I came here on St. Patrick's Day and was greeted with 95% of the crowd fully decked out in their luck of the irish attire, green beers in hand. Bonus points for the enthusiasm. Cheap STIFF drinks and AMAZING pizza. Service is great - I'm a non-meat eater and the only pizzas left were Hawaiian and pepperoni. I told the guy at the counter no big deal, I'll just pick off the meats and eat it cheese style. He refused to let me do that so he made a half-veggie half-cheese pizza, even tho he knew I was only going to buy two slices. That's rockstar service!
