Crispy Cheese Bites...
Jeff B.

This is a Montana-American grub fest restaurant. Yes, they have a few video gambling machines, like every other establishment in the state, but it's all about the food here. Leave your kale and poke wet dreams at home for this joint. They feedbag you, but it ain't great for ya, haha. None of us left unsatisfied, and thank you to our lovely young server taking care of all of our glutinous needs. But a special shout out goes to them for the most boring of meals (in my opine), that my youngest has made me begrudgingly take photos of over the years...Chicken Strips. I have never, repeat, never seen a better fresh prep of this basic meal. Col Sanders would throw you out of your chair, steal them, and head to L.A. via Omaha with Charlie Daniels. None of you will get that bizarre reference...

Clump "cheddar bites" and a cook, and waitress, without a mask the whole time.

I used to love coming here. Had a 4 star before. Today we had a waitress that actually took my food, because I had the other tables food, after I had eaten and touched most of the things on my plate. I hadn't eaten my sandwich but holy crap spackle!, it's covid time, traded food out anyway. The waitress had her mask mostly around her chin and the cook wasn't wearing one, at his neck the whole time. Coup d'etat.... giant black hair in my sandwich coming out into my plate like 4 ", coming from the middle. We left. probably never coming back. Which is sad. I loved having breakfast there. No wonder you are searching for employees. I had one giant cheese ball, also, for the appetizer.

This is the sante fe burger. Wow, guess I should have asked for no sauce. Super greasy.

Not impressed with the quality or carelessness. Will not be ordering again. Yes, I ordered off of DoorDash, but there was so much sauce on my burger I could barely eat it.

a plate of steak and potatoes

We are from a little town in wagram nc.Visiting family and we were staying at the hotel next door.My husband I decided to treat ourselves to chicken and steak All I can say is the steak and chicken were outstanding! Not often one can say the chicken is better than the steak, but no lie it is.I called to see 8f I could get them to tell me how the sauce was made, nope not sharing.Pretty much figured they wouldn't but had to try.

Would have preferred the main dining area but since we didn't have reservations, it worked out. We ordered the filet mignon, mushrooms, garden salad, and the five variety of steak sauces. The steak came with mashed potatoes and everything was delicious. I was very happy with my meal. The town is Missoula is very cute college town with a variety of shops and restaurants.

It was suggested that I get reservations, but since I was only one person, I found a spot at the bar. The servers were super attentive and friendly. They were also really knowledgeable about the wines as well as the food. It's a steakhouse, but I was craving fish, so I got the salmon at the advice of the bartender. He was not wrong, it was incredible. They got the crisp of the skin just right. I discovered gamay noir wine for the first time! I can't believe I've never had this. It's absolutely delightful! It is complex while also being light and refreshing. The inside of the restaurant is nice and perfectly lit. It is great for a date or to come out with friends. They really show that sweet montana hospitality. If u am ever back in Missoula, I'm coming back for that salmon and that Gamay Noir!

The food scene in Missoula definitely surpassed our expectations given its size. Boxcar was the…read moreperfect start to our evening. The decor inside was unique and inviting, but a little smaller than expected. From a service standpoint, our server was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. My only small critique was that the service felt a little more casual than I expected given how elevated and polished the restaurant is. Nothing that negatively affected our experience, but a slightly more refined style of service would have felt more cohesive with the atmosphere and overall dining experience. Started with escargot, steak tartare, and ossetra caviar service. The rye bread that comes with the tartare and escargot was very herbal and complimented everything very nicely. The blinis that came with the caviar were made fresh and very tasty, I think they were made with buckwheat. While tasty, they did overwhelm the flavor of the caviar a bit. Paired the starters with a glass of cremant, very good! Entrees again were all very good. The table shared steak frites with bernaise, caille farcie (quail), pork pané, and sea bass grenoblois. All of the sauces were balanced and paired well with their proteins. The sea bass could have used a little more seasoning. Shared a bottle of Soter Pinot, paired great with the quail, pork and steak. Finished off the meal with a lemon meringue, bread pudding, and espresso. Everything was really good, the foie gras caramel on the bread pudding adding a nice savory element. The lemon custard was a little thin, but the custard to tart shell ratio was perfect. Will definitely be back next time we visit Missoula!

The server immediately brought it back and made another. The 2nd one was cooked perfectly, but over seasoned. Very salty. However, we still enjoyed our meals and they gave us a top off of our wine and dessert complimentary. If we are in the area again, we would return!

We had a beautiful table right by the windows overlooking the golf course where we could watch the deer roaming. Our server came over shortly after we were sat to get our drink order. He was fantastic very helpful with suggestions and telling us the night's specials. We started with a glass of champagne, and I tried the Mid Sommer's spritz cocktail... which was delicious. Then we split a basic salad, and I went with the pork chop because for some reason that sounded fantastic tonight and it was! My husband did his usual rack of lamb, which he thought was the best rack of lamb he's had anywhere! This restaurant has been around forever. I love the interiors where it seems so old-school dark and moody! But also very comfortable. They have a large parking lot so you won't have no problem finding parking.

We were told we could have three electric candle for the three birthdays we were celebrating -- so, naturally, we took them. However, I thought I needed a tall water glass and took that with me for my $780~ tab. I get it, not cool. They called us and we returned the items that were promised and taken without permission. However, the poindexter glasses wearing, socially frumpy, sad about life man that decided to berate me upon the return of their items incited a desire to throw rocks through their windows. I find it hard to explore an appropriate lexicon to describe an employee that would act like such a piece of dung. Also, don't get the butter noodles -- I think they microwave noodles so you can have a non-croutons croutonious crispy noodle. Loving chipping my teeth. Anyway, that dude is a dick. P.s I guess that's not why it's called, "The Keep." P.p.s don't try to take away plates are that are trying to be enjoyed. Leif out.
