I was able to enjoy the Hickory BBQ hamburger with fresh cut fries. I was also able to enjoy a peach Italian soda. All was delicious and would definitely recommend the food. The wait staff has a tag team approach. If they walk by and notice you need help they just take care of you. They have fun events based on the day. It appears to be a community focused restaurant which appears to be doing a great job as the tables were full and the staff was hoping. #thanksunclejoe

Crab cakes were mushy and had zero texture. Undercooked, too much unseasoned bread crumbs and crab was definitely frozen. Chicken Asian salad was somehow dry and over dressed at the same time, peanuts were stale. The Sav Blanch was nice. Service was slow. They spoke to me 4 times total and mentioned nothing about my food that I was not eating. This is considered acceptable for Missoula dinning.

    Market Club Sandwich

This is a nice hidden gem in Missoula that you should eat at. It's quaint, quiet and has good food and service. I have eaten here several times and have always enjoyed the meal. Yes, it is off the beaten path and tucked into rural residential area but you will be glad you came. Today I ordered the Market Club sandwich. Really, it is just a good turkey sandwich on a sourdough baguette. It is big enough to easily share--even for big appetites. The staff here are always friendly here and you will get some country charm verses the hurried city service you get in downtown Missoula. On a side note, I always laugh when restaurants call a sandwich a "club" sandwich when it doesn't have the "club.". The "club" is the middle piece of bread in a sandwich made with 3 pieces of bread. That is the real definition on a club. So in this case, while the Market Club sandwich is technically not a club sandwich, it is still mighty tasty and I will order it again. [Yup. That is one of my soap boxes...hahaha]. In short, eat at the Trough. It's a great locals spot tucked away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The location makes it very convenient to go to the very pleasant bookstore next door while waiting for a table - there is no shortage of customers even on a Wednesday late morning. The line is well-managed with a waiting area and restaurant pagers handed out. It seems like a place that is frequented as much by young people as retirees. They have a combo plate that includes two eggs, hash browns, a protein (I've so far only tried the corned beef hash), and two pancakes starting at 17 with upgrades available for the pancakes. It can easily be split for breakfast and offers a really good variety of things. The corned beef hash, hash browns, and pancakes are all top notch in my opinion (and the eggs are good eggs also). There are numerous Best Breakfast Winner posters hanging above the window to the kitchen and I don't think this place needs much support - they seem to be doing quite well - but in case this reaches someone who is visiting Missoula and doesn't know about it, it's well-worth a stop. We did end up having to wait about 40 mins for a table and like other reviews, the price point was a little high for Montana. But we are glad we tried it. The place itself is so very very beautiful. Our server knew we were on a time crunch and was so great about getting us our food and check. I ended up getting the Ranchers Benny and hubs got the shakshuka. We were both happy with our selections and would most likely come back if we were in town.

I arrived right when they opened, yet several seats still had crumbs on them. The service was quick, though not overly warm or welcoming. I also found it odd that the drink menu is printed separately on paper instead of being included on the main menu--it feels less polished than the rest of the space. As someone who eats plant based, I'd love to see vegan items clearly labeled on the menu and at least one more substantial vegan entrée option. I ordered the Powerhouse Overnight Oats for $22. They were actually quite tasty and surprisingly filling. However, at that price, I expected a little more. The chia seeds were dry rather than fully hydrated, and consuming dry chia seeds on their own is generally discouraged because they absorb liquid after being eaten. One final suggestion: please include menu prices on your website. It makes it much easier for customers to decide before visiting.
