My mom and I stopped on our way home from flathead. I got a Doc Holiday, and she got a Doc Who. My recommendation is to ask for the Doc Holiday toasted, but as whole it was great. We stopped here on our way from somewhere to somewhere else. But it wasn't a random stop- we had done our research (we actually called in our order from the road). The sandwiches here were all pretty damn good. We had the Dr. Ruth (egg sando), Dr. Demento (Italian sando), and the hot chicken/bacon/ranch. Honestly we enjoyed them all abbout equally. Not really sure what happened in the last three years. I used to go to Doc's all the time when I was in school and it was always good. Just ordered again and it was super gross. The spoonfuls of soup I tried were slightly bitter, super watery, and had zero salt. I scooped out the bitter, black potato pieces that remained, and decided to just not finish my food. Kinda made me lose my appetite completely. Yep..hangover stew and the sandwiches were super disappointing. Feels like whoever made the food didn't give a damn. Won't risk spending money here again. After much debating, I ordered the Dr. Sigmund Freud, $9, with "Cream Cheese, Cucumbers, Avocado, Olives, Tomatoes, Sprouts on Toasted Wheat." However I chose the half sandwich, half soup option, taking the recommendation for Hangover Stew, which is also vegetarian. Everything tasted delicious, and the soup was a novel concept of broth, corn and potatoes. After reading other reviews, I also ordered the Huckleberry lemonade. This place has a ton of sandwich choices. The gimmick of naming them all after famous Doctors is fun. I had the Dr. Kildare with Turkey and Avocado, which was very tasty. This is my first time here and I already know I will be back multiple times. If you know me, that is quite a feat since this restaurant is located in downtown. I really hate coming downtown with its narrow streets, pay parking and general all-around congestion. I ordered the Dr Who (turkey, bacon, avocado on grilled sourdough) and it was delicious. The turkey isn't your usual deli over-processed meat. I also got a cup of chicken corn chowder and is was good. I think it has a bit of a southwestern flair to it rather than a Pennsylvanian Dutch style corn chowder. I also indulged myself and tried a cinnamon roll. It was a nice, tender hearted roll with a light to moderate cinnamon flavor. The roll was nice. This meal was too much to eat in one setting but it will sure make a great snack later. Appreciated that this place was open and the staff were very friendly and helpful - way exceeded expectations. The breakfast burrito was small (also inexpensive at $4) but lacked enough substance. Horrible quest service and management! Not worth dealing with them for simple and overpriced sandwiches/ soup! As a food delivery driver I waited over 30 minutes for an order only to be told to call my customer to make substitutions for an item. Upon discussion with my customer I realized they never ordered this to begin with and had to wait to speak with an employee to sort this out. They asked me to spell my customers name and realized two customers with similar names had ordered for pick up. After this they said that everything was in the bag and to leave. (I can't open the bag to confirm everything because of Covid restrictions). After dropping my food off the customer asked why after waiting so long they had LESS THAN HALF of what they ordered!! To make matters worse, when I called to resolve the issue with the manager she lied and said they never had an order under that name( they had two) and that they can't do anything. They wanted me to give an exact time and after they said my customer never ordered from them!! Knowing absolutely nothing about Missoula, I needed a quick lunch during a business trip in town. I stumbled into Doc's because it looked charming from the outside. They get props from me for having a few sandwiches that were strictly vegetarian, as that is not always easy to find, especially in smaller shops. The reason for the 3 star review was the price. I paid just over $9 for a sandwich and Diet Coke. The sandwich did come with a cookie, but it was hard and not very good. Maybe chips would have been a better option, but I don't think I had that choice. All in all, this place was surprisingly more expensive than expected. read more

The hangover stew is a good hardy stew. The stew would have been top notch if the slice of bread that came with the stew was not just a plain dinner roll. This is the only thing I could pick on because this place is great! The stand out star for my visit is the Doctor Jekyl chicken sandwich! The sweet and spicy mustard was AMAZING and made this sandwich unforgettable! The strangest place ever. First the cashier told me to not order the first two sandwiches I chose, then when I finally decided on one they rolled their eyes and said "fine" in a defeated tone. I was the only one in the store, and heard them all yelling in the back and my food was just awful when it got to me. Is this how it always is? Man what the heck happened with this place? A new owner takes over and the place goes to shit? The soup which WAS amazing before now tastes like the same bagged slop everyone else serves. The cute curly headed blonde girl isn't there anymore, which tells me they're firing all their good employees. The food quality has become very poor, and I wouldn't be surprised if the soups were frozen. They're definitely not made fresh. Do yourself a favor: skip this place and go to Subway.
