I found the salon here on Yelp, decided to trust the two positive reviews, and scheduled an appointment with a recommended stylist, Caitlyn. She is hands down my favorite stylist now and I can't imagine I would even think about going anywhere else. She's super friendly, attentive, and experienced. Just what I was looking for when searching for a stylist! I live in Beavercreek, but the drive to Kettering area for this is more than worth it. My hair looked the best in years. Highly recommend!

The friend suggested this location in particular, as she thought the high number of queer and gender-nonconforming staff would help my gender-expansive kid feel safe and comfortable. She was absolutely right! The space itself is relaxing and elegant, with some perfect quirky touches. Kiddo decided on a massage, their first ever, and Morgan did an amazing job connecting with and treating them as the customer while still checking in with me. Two thirds of the way through, Kiddo told Morgan, "I wish you could keep massaging my back forever!" Success! We're already planning to go back for mani-pedis, and "massage at Square One" is going on the chore chart rewards list!

I love that she walked me through her process before starting and as she went along. I booked for an hour and it was the most relaxing hour of my life. She gave amazing scalp and shoulder massages throughout and she has the perfect pressure. The whole process just makes you feel so pampered and relaxed. She will set your curls free! As a salon, Aura is completely gorgeous. I love its shabby chic vibe with fun bursts of color from some amazing vintage furnishings. It feels like no other salon I've been in, and I mean that as a compliment. Aura is in an old storefront from the early 1900s (or so) with magnificent windows that let in natural light and tall ceilings. It feels elegant and cozy at the same time -- there's nothing corporate about it. It's weird to say, but even the shampoo chairs are super comfortable. I'm so glad they opened up shop so close to where I live and work. They also get bonus points because they're right across the street from Wheat Penny (one of my favorite restaurants in Dayton) and adjacent to all that the Oregon District has to offer. You can definitely make a whole afternoon or evening out of your trip to the salon.
