This salon is actually a salon where the stylists are independent and rent a room. So I am rating my stylist Jessica Foiles. I had a bad experience at a salon. My hair ended up a completely different and darker color than I requested. That salon tried to fix it and my hair ended up with some damage and being several colors. It was bad. Jessica fit me into her busy schedule and quickly... and dealt with my very busy schedule as well She was professional, and easy to talk to. And besides all that my hair looks fabulous. This review is for April Gallogly. After returning from a 6 month, no place to get a good haircut "vacation", I was desperate need of a haircut. Thank goodness I found April! I've now been to her twice, and will continue to go to her as scheduling allows. The first time, she cut my hair exactly like the picture I showed her, and when I just needed a trim, well she did that perfectly too! She is very professional, conversation with her is easy, and at the end of every cut she wants to make sure you are satisfied. TIP: She books up fast, so if you need a specific time, book early. I have been to 2 different stylists at Salon Ventures and neither have disappointed. It is hard to rate this place accurately because each stylist is an independent contractor. They rent a chair and the rest is up to them. I have seen both Samantha and Lisa and both were wonderful! The only drawback? When you enter there is no front desk so you either have to look at the map or be like me and miss the map and wander the halls aimlessly. Names are in front of each of the little rooms so you can easily navigate your way to your stylists "hair closet". Rooms are small but I like that because it makes it intimate. It is just you and the stylist and it allows for a true one on one experience. Looking for a new stylist? Salon Ventures will not disappoint. Sam and Lisa are both great! read more

Michelle Wysong Struck of Salon Red is an incredibly passionate skilled stylist and in my opinion, expert colorist, and truly sets a new standard for me when it comes to style meeting hair science and health. Michelle spent so much quality time consulting with me, I felt confident walking into my appointment that I understood everything she was going to do, and the expected outcome. I really appreciated her professionalism and honesty with regards to what is and is not possible with my over processed hair. Despite walking into her salon needing serious color correction on already stressed long hair, she somehow made my hair feel better, healthier, after the correction, than it had before! How is that possible? She not only left me with hair I can be proud of again, and a trendy cut that flatters my hair type while saving my length, she also really taught me how to style it (smoothing the cuticle as dries) so that it would really shine! She introduced me to products (actually used the expensive stuff on me at my appointment, not just a sales pitch) that truly do what they claim they can do, and they actually made so much of a difference, my husband noticed when I got home! The setup of this salon is unique in that each stylist rents a booth, so there's not a receptionist or waiting area. I followed my stylist after she left another salon to come here. Her name is Amie and this review is strictly about her...she is fabulous!! Amie is extremely talented and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my cut and color. This review is for Michelle Horton at Salon Ventures in Kettering. Salon Ventures itself was very clean and customer friendly. The other stylists there that I spoke with were more than helpful and caring. I feel badly for having to give the Salon 1 star, but there is no way to give this particular ''professional'' her own rating, so unfortunately this is where the rating will have to go. My friend and I were looking to get eyelash extensions done when we found a Groupon deal from Michelle Horton from Salon Ventures. The deal seemed pretty good so we both bought our own and called the next day to make our appts. This was on Sep 3, 2013. My friend has still not recieved a call back from Michelle, despite her voicemail stating that she would return calls within 1 bus day. I called everyday for about a week when I finally recieved a text back from Michelle. Frankly, I was getting rather frustrated and worried that I would never get in contact so I was relieved when she finally did get in touch with me. My text message shows the date as Sept 10, 2013 as when she finally returned my calls. I was hoping to get an appt within a week or two at the most. However, Michelle said that she only worked about 3 days a week and she was booked. After a couple text messages back and forth, we finally set our appts for Oct 24th, at 6:30pm. That would make our appts nearly 2 months from when we bought our Groupon and from when we first tried to get in contact. We decided to be understanding about the situation because it is possible that the stylists who put up deals on Groupon can be flooded with customers. The day of our appt finally arrived. Believing that there was no reason to re-confirm, my friend and I made the 25+ minute drive to the Salon. After waiting until 6:45, my friend decided to give Michelle a call because she had still not arrived and her salon cubicle was closed. Michelle did not answer, so I decided to make the call next. Her phone rang twice and then went straight to voicemail as most cell phones do when you press the ''ignore'' button on an incoming call. Knowing this, I sent Michelle a text saying that my friend and I were waiting for our 6:30 appt and if Michelle was on her way. After about 10 minutes, I recieves a text back from Michelle: '' Hi I called three days ago to cancel your appt I ran out of glue recorder some, but it hasn't come in. Now im at the hospital with my daughter. I apologize for the miscommunication!'' I then messaged Michelle asking her if she had left a voicemail because I didnt receive a call OR a voicemail from her to which she replied: '' Yes I called five people in left voicemail all everyone phone!'' After being rather annoyed, I then asked when we could reschdule our appt. Michelle said that she would text us back when the glue for the eyelashes arrive. I pressed further for a time frame of around when that would be and the only thing she said was that the glue was supposed to be there already but still hadnt arrived. This was the last text message I recieved from her. She did not offer any day or time frame for when we would be able to come in. She also did not apologize more than once for cancelling our appt, despite my saying I never received a phone call, voicemail, or text from her. Again, my friend who also bought the Groupon has still not recieved a call to this day. After discussing with my friend what to do, we decided to get a refund. If Michelle had been more apologetic or had at least given us a more definitive timeframe of when we would be able to reschedule, we might have still tried to give it a go. However, taking into account the length of time it took to get in contact with her and also the nearly 2 months we waited for the appt itself, and also the unprofessional way Michelle decided to stand us up on our appt, my friend and I decided that it was not worth it. The problem with this situation is that there is no real person or management or ''boss'' to complain to. Salon Ventures is merely a building that rents out stalls for stylists. Each stylist manages and reports to only themselves. When this situation occured, my friend and I were left in a loop, waiting for about 45 minutes before giving up and going home. I did speak with some of the other stylists to ask about Michelle. I didnt want to jump the gun in hopes that Michelle was actually very professional and that this was just a random occurence and we just got unlucky. The other stylists however, told me that Michelle was fairly new to Salon Ventures and had only been there for a couple of months. Another stylist also mentioned that she did not understand how Michelle still had her stall because, according to her, Michelle ''never works''. I wasnt going to write a review until I noticed that Michelle had put her eyelash extension offer back up on Groupon. I dont want anyone else to have to go through this. This review is for Michelle Wysong Struck of Salon Red. I found her through another Yelp review of Salon Ventures. After being to two previous salons in the area (Square One as well as Taverniers), the third time really was the charm. Michelle is great. VERY talented and knowledgeable. I was considering making a BIG change with my hair; going from a dark blonde/light brown that I'd been highlighting, to a dark brown all over color. She was willing to meet with me beforehand to discuss my ideas, show her photos, take a look at my hair, and get her opinions as a professional. After chatting with her, we ended up deciding to go a completely different route with my hair. I definitely didn't feel pressure to deviate from what I came in intending to do; she was extremely thorough in her explanation of what I'd have to do financially and physically to maintain my hair if I was to go dark all over, and gave me options and alternatives. Additionally, she asked me questions - why I wanted to make the change, how often I would keep it up, etc. All this information helped her come up with a customized plan for my hair. I went back yesterday for my appointment and I could not be more pleased with not only the experience but how my hair turned out. Michelle made sure I was comfortable during my appointment, and offered me something to drink too. She really knows her stuff and it's great to be able to trust someone who can explain what she's doing, and give you all sorts of good information and tips on how to keep your hair healthy and looking its best. My hair turned out AMAZING. I feel like I ended up with the look I had envisioned, just gone about in a different way. Michelle really sets out to make you happy, and while she obviously is trying to make a living, she won't put through the wringer, encourage the most expensive service offered, or pressure you to buy products, just to make a buck. She really values her clients. I prefer the whole Salon Ventures "experience" to the typical salon, as you really get one-on-one time with your stylist, and don't feel like just a client. I've been to quite a few different stylists in my short year here but after working with Michelle I'll look no further. I won't write too much because Jenn S. and Allison O. have already said the perfect things. Bottom line: Michelle is an absolute PRO. She listens to what you want and then evaluates your hair type, asks about how much (or little in my case) maintenance you're willing to accept and then creates a style that works! I am writing this review because I am getting ready to move out of state...and it is freaking me OUT! I have been reading Yelp reviews, hunting for a stylist, and the reason why it makes me so nervous is because I LOVE my stylist so much! I see Michelle Wysong Struck at Salon Ventures (her salon name within Salon Ventures is called Salon Red), and I drive about 45 minutes to an hour (from South Lebanon) to have her do my hair. I seriously cannot sing her praises enough! I started seeing her because a friend from work went to her, and I loved her highlights. That was back in 2008. We have moved away and moved back again, and one of the things I was most excited about when we moved back was getting to come back to her. I love the way she highlights my hair, I love the way she cuts it, and I love just hanging out with her for a while as she does it! We always have a great time catching up with each other, and she always always always offers me a drink and makes sure I'm comfortable. Michelle is a consummate professional. Not only is she incredibly talented, but she knows so much about hair. I am one of those weirdos who likes to know all the details about what is being done to my hair...and Michelle is perfect for me because of that. She gets it, so she is happy to answer my questions and explain things to me. I trust her because I know that she knows what she's doing. I'm also very indecisive, so I can ask her opinion about what she thinks I should do, and she will tell me. I need that in my life, haha! Another thing that I HAVE to mention is that Michelle's prices are so much lower than you would expect them to be. The services she provides are amazing, but also a great value because I am not going broke to get my hair done. Really, honestly, she could be charging so much more. It would be totally worth it. I don't really know what I'm going to do when I move. I really hope I can find someone as trustworthy and talented as Michelle! But if I don't...she might just find me back in her chair every now and then. :) read more

Jessica in suite 12 did a fantastic job fixing up my dry, lank hair. Not only did she give me a great hair cut, she's so friendly and sweet! Not only does she have amazing quality products, have Aveda training, and know exactly How to make any mess look amazing, she is so funny and sweet and beautiful. She got me in ASAP to fix a mess another stylist did with DARK color and an awful cut , and gave me bombshell blonde highlights and got me back to blonde. I knew it would be a lot of work and a huge challenge, but she did wayyyyy better than I could have asked for. I have another session with her and already can't wait! Michelle Wysong is by far the best stylist I've been to and I'm no spring chicken I called her in tears in full blown crisis mode after over bleaching my own hair and having bits of it breaking off. She fit me in the same day for a consult. She was gentle with me in my emotionally fragile state but bluntly honest. She spent a lot of her own valuable time, over an hour, talking to me about how to to properly care for my over processed bleach blonde hair and scalp, dispelling many myths and misconceptions! She even wrote my "treatment" regimen down for me, gave me a website full of proper correct info to read up on, and gave me a plan for maintenance. She made herself completely available for texting with questions too..what a nice touch! I hope she doesn't mind me saying, and I can't promise she would always do this.. but she didn't even charge me for the consult, or the wash/condition and blowout with her products!. Only for the products I bought that day, even though in total she spent about an hour and a half with me! She was the most thorough stylist I have ever had the pleasure to consult with. She gave me a fabulous wash/condition and blow out, and I left looking and feeling like a million bucks. The products and tips I left with have my hair looking fabulous and my home done blowout looking professional despite my damaged mane! I was supposed to have an appointment with Michelle Wysong-Struck. I called her because I only had one simple question and I had chosen to go to her because I was not at all happy with how my highlights turned out from my last stylist. I had heard great things about Michelle so I decided to schedule an appointment with her. I scheduled a full highlight and cut and was excited to go get my hair done by her because I was going to a wedding. She was completely rude to me on the phone and also told me we wouldn't have time to tone my hair and it would only be my roots getting foiled!! NO. First off, A full highlight is roots to mid lengths to ends and you paint all the hair with the bleach with the exception of staying 1/4 inch away from the roots. I went to cosmetology school and know what a full highlight is. Second, I am going to pay a lot of money to get a good set of highlights! Any woman who has gotten or been getting highlights knows they are by no means cheap. Michelle was completely rude and just seemed to not have time for me and seemed to not care about my wants and needs as a possible new client. It is of upmost importance to treat all clients (old and new) with respect and to listen to their needs. After being annoyed and angry at the amount of disrespect I was shown, I cancelled my appointment. The review is not for the Salon Ventures as a whole--some other masters are good there. The review is particularly for Jessica "Turpin" Foiles. I specifically tried to schedule a haircut with her as her web page says "I trained at the Aveda Fredrics Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio where I received in depth training in cutting, texture, and color", and I wanted someone professional in haircuts. I really do not know what she learned and where--she was talking a lot but was incapable, or at best negligent, to make even a simple blend of hair layers all-around, such that different layers would blend one into another smoothly. She spent about 15 min cutting and said it was all done. After I pointed out it needed more work, she was not only incapable to incorporate me the same day, but was unable to incorporate me at all into her busy schedule. I had to go to my old master and re-do the whole haircut, resulting, of course, in a shorter length. Even the old master (who spent much more attention blending and did a wonderful job blending and fixing it)--even she could not fix everything unless cutting it very short, so some parts of hair I had to re-grow for month. I did not have experience with hair color with her (and not planning to), but I suggest stay away if you need a haircut: the girl is unprofessional, inexperienced, and negligent. read more
