Yes, Mountain View does have a fair number of people who think that the public parking spaces in front of their houses somehow belong to them. I haven't experienced that at this park in particular, but definitely elsewhere in the city of Mountain View. This review however will be about the park itself.
During the Covid school closures, this park has plenty of parking at the front entrance to the school itself. The layout of the facility is good in that everything is clearly separated yet in the same vicinity so that it's accessible. The distance off the street is good. This is important so that you won't have people wondering around this area unless they intend to stick around at what the park has to offer.
I'm not from around here, but from my limited interaction with the folks here who seemed like locals, everyone was very friendly.
My reviews of parks are mostly to gauge how good they are for flying FPV tinywhoops. Some may call these drones, but these are under the 250g limit making them internationally recognized as toys as opposed to drones that require registration and oversight by FAA.
The field is great. The location of the trees alongside the perimeter divide the walkway from the playground. With the sun, people naturally navigate to the trees as a source for shade, making the field wide open only for those daring enough to be in the sun. The design of the park as such naturally in this manner designates a seating area and a play area. Implied design is working here.
There are actually two play structures. The one I photographed here is the one we went to which is more open and part of the public section of the park (typically closed when school is in session). There's a hidden play structure behind one of the buildings at the baseball diamond's left field we still have yet to explore.
I don't know if the public is permitted to use the covered seating area beside the school, but that would be a great place for group picnics. Grassy field isn't adjacent, but for grownups looking to have a chat, I'd recon that'd be an optimal spot. read more
