Until recently, I was using them for most work. However, they returned my car last week in worse shape than it was before. The heat shield was screwed back on as requested (common Subaru problem) and I asked for an estimate on a tune up because the transmission was skipping and burping between 40-60 mph. I noted on the intake that the check engine light (CEL) was also starting to flash when I accelerated at those speeds. The estimate was close to $600 for ignition wires, spark plugs and a new air filter. They clearly didn't road test the car, as the mechanic would have notified me of it so I could confirm the skips at 40. They also didn't do a scan of the error codes to see why the CEL went off for the second time in three days while accelerating. My husband (a mechanic for 20+ years now retired) noted that the ignition wires were not put back properly after they examined that section and the ignition wire connecting to one of the cylinders was completely broken (hence the CEL, cruise and traction control screaming.) Prior to having the heat shield fixed, the skipping was not nearly as pronounced. The air filter did not have oil it in as they noted to me; it was just dirty. In the last oil change, they had not even replaced the air filter or replenished the transmission fluid, which was exacerbating the existing skipping/burping. I have a long commute to work and it disappoints me that this shop would play with my anxiety in not properly scanning the engine code and diagnosing the problem before the lights began screaming. It is never good practice to make someone fear driving their car. My husband did the tune up for about $200 in parts and did the proper road testing beforehand and afterwards to ensure we had addressed all broken parts and the ones needing replacement from wear and tear. I know most people have newer cars, but a mechanic should be cognizant of the fragility of older wires and parts in a car over 10 years old, not to mention address the specific symptoms that the owner points out. read more

Realistically one of the worst car mechanics around. Words don't hold meaning with such people. I called in three times to get a tire patched, was told the mechanic wasn't in to do a tire repair which is bizarre since anyone can do it. Called the following day to ask if I can bring my car was told anyone could've done the tire patch could be done by anyone which is ironic because was told a special guy wasn't there to do it. was told to bring my car in this morning to get it fixed. walked in for the guy to say we can't do it today. I don't understand what type of unethical, lying, and deceitful business is being ran as you can see from multiple other reviews. I called to ask if I could get a quote on a simple fix of a hood that was stuck shut. The person who answered the phone was very rude about me asking questions and if I could get a quote, he then hung up on me when for asking if I could get a quote after taking a look. They didn't tighted the lug nuts on my Jeep inspite of the fact I told I DON'T WANT MY TIRES ROTATED - THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN TOUCHED!!!!! I called and made an appointment, days ahead, and even had it confirmed by text, only to arrive to find they don't use an appointment schedule, and they had no emissions tech this week. Monro uses a call center now, so appointments are made off site, and not communicated with the branch. The manager was super nice, and helpful to find a new location. (another 25 min away) That helped, since otherwise it was a frustrating waste of time both in setting up the appointment, and going there. read more

This brake shop is a joke. We went to the one in Jenison, Michigan. The brake shop gave us a quote. Told us they get it done while there they called and lied to us about calipers when we said this is ridiculous. Our calipers were fine. He immediately changed his mind and went. Oh you're right we got it on stock. Yeah kind of funny within 30 seconds of me telling you I'm not gonna pay an extra thousand dollars that you get it on stock. He does the break time I get my car back. He tells me oh there's stuff on your brakes it's gotta wear off for a couple days all these things. So I drive it for you know three or four days. Noticed that when I'm on the highway the whole car shakes so I'm thinking bad rotors. So I go back and I say hey, my car is shaking and shimmering. He just said you're breaking too hard. I was like what are you talking about? I literally have had it four days. Something is wrong with the rotors. So he said OK come in on Tuesday at 8 AM so I was like OK. My wife had the week off so we get up early we drive over she's waiting for me outside while I go in so I walk in and I talk to the guy and the guy goes. Oh well you're gonna have to pay for labor and I said what do you mean you guys are checking the work that you guys did And you're gonna swap out the rotors well, even if we have to replace the rotors you have to pay for all the labor and I was confused. So Dan is the one I talked to that made my appointment at 8 AM and everything was supposed to be fine. I get in and this guy named Tim who says he's the manager tells me I didn't buy the gold package??? I look at them and go what are you talking about well if you had the gold package which was $800 more you wouldn't have to pay us labor to check our work I was dumbfounded. I looked at him and said so what you are telling me right now is if I would've paid almost $1000 more for the brake job that you messed up that I wouldn't pay labor charges well isn't that paying labor charges ahead of time then? He had nothing to say so I grabbed my stuff and I left now. I don't trust that place it's a ripoff the a scam they are liars. So I come home I write that place the manager or the owner. Nothing comes back. I also go online after not hearing for a week from the owner of the place I go online and write the company. Nothing it has been three weeks. I have heard not one peep from the company. Mind you reviews are absolutely horrendous. I'm just saying do not go there. They do not treat their customers right the manager is a scam artist who literally wants you to pay an extra thousand dollars ahead of time in case you have issues. Whoever owns this place now should be sick and saddened that this crap is going on. I will not recommend this place. I will tell everybody to never go there and I'm telling you in my opinion do not go there. It will just be a nightmare. The company does not care about its company or its customers. The BBB is full of complaints and as you can read in this yelp tons more complaints. So it's not just me having an issue. Do what you will I'm telling you my experience. read more

Mechanics do a great job and it's at a reasonable rate. If you want knowledgeable staff highly recommend. Oil change may take a few hours though. Don't wait (just drop it off) they might make you feel a little uncomfortable (espically the old guy). read more

We took my Wifes 2016 Jeep Cherokee there for service. The exhaust was getting louder. I found the flex pipe turning down from the manifold leaking. Your mechanic replaced the pipe, and all was well. A few months later the same pipe started leaking again. I called the store and was told that there had been some bad exhaust parts and that a new supplier is being used. He said to bring the car in on Monday for warranty replacement. On Tuesday at 4 pm my wife received a call from the store manager stating the repair would be $394.00 $50.00 more than the original repair yet the pipe was not supposed to be included. I went and picked up our car and am planning to take it to another shop for the repairs. Working in the service industry myself I know Monroe will not be happing hearing that I will not only not use this shop for my service but will make it a priority to turn away any customers heading to Monroe. I did reach out to the district manager but still have received no return call. Truly disappointed, not even worth one star read more

I had always liked Monroe. Then I had them do a complete muffler job on my 2001 CRV. They forgot to put the Never Seeze grease on the threads of my O2 sensor (that EVERY repair manual recommends because of this precise problem) that is threaded into the tail pipe. . fast forward two years when the O2 sensor failed and a simple $35 job became a $500 job just to loosen the frozen threaded O2 sensor. When I asked them to loosen the thread on the O2 sensor (even offered to pay them $75 just to loosen it...five minutes work) that said that was "against the rules." I came in for an emissions test, for which the shop doesn't take appointments. I asked the attendant if I could get a test and he told me to leave my keys. This was an early friday afternoon and the shop wasn't busy. After 15 minutes there wasn't any progress. A woman pulled in, evidently a previous customer and indicated she had a tire problem. The same attendant called into his shop to have someone take care of her. I approached the attendant and asked if he knew when they could get to my car. "When we get around to it". Needless to say I left. When I got home I called and asked if I had offended the attendant and he said I arrived without an appointment and they were busy. When I reminded him that they don't take appointments for emissions checks, he said he knew but i was demanding. So if you're looking for a place that smells like stale cigarettes, is festooned in MAGA and Blue lives matter paraphernalia, and won't fix your car, then this is your place. read more

Should be less than 1 star. Rude, arrogant and incompetent. Came in for emissions testing. Left the vehicle and came back 30 min later. Older gray haired guy says "what do you need?" I said I'm picking up vehicle from testing. Says "I told them not to do it". Asked why? Says "odometer is broken. And you know it is" told him it was actually my fathers back up vehicle and I could swear it worked on the drive in. I asked if he had driven it and noticed it wasn't working. Older, gray haired a-hole says " not my job". I didn't even reply. Just grabbed keys and drove to Knechts on 111 in Trumbull. 30 minutes later it passed and was on my way. Couldn't be nicer or more professional people at Knechts. Told this story to three people. All 3 said, yep that guy is a tool and I never bring anything there. read more

My son went in for a very simple modification to his car. Removal of the muffler and resonator. I've called around to a couple of muffler shops and haven't found a price over $100. Monro Muffler charged my son $300 + tax. Taking advantage of a teenager is reprehensible. My son is partially to blame for not checking around, but he knew his father went there and was treated fairly-I guess it stopped with me. Very disappointed. read more

Beware of the short 5-star reviews for good service. I recently had a horrible experience after several years using Monro Muffler and will never be going back. I went to Monro Muffler for a routine oil change. Upon finishing the change, the shop calls and says my brakes need replacing. I take their word for it, and one hour and $400 later, my brakes are done. Now during this time I had a vibration it my steering wheel, which I assumed was due to a bad alignment. A month after I went to Monro Muffler I went to my usual shop (I do not live in the area, but used to, so only use Monro Muffler in passing). My shop indicated that the vibration was due because of faulty brake rotors, NOT the alignment. I did not have the invoice to check what Monro replaced, so I had this shop do the rotors for the much less expensive $250. Flash forward, I check the invoice from Monro when I returned home, and it said they replaced the rotors! I made the trip all the way out to Monro to request the refund for the faulty rotors they gave me. When I explained the situation, Jim Vig Jr. met me with an extremely arrogant and demeaning tone. He said that there was no way I was getting a refund, not even if I brought the faulty rotors back! He said it was my fault for not driving all the way back to Monro Muffler with faulty brakes to get them replaces at his shop. It is clear that once this shop replaced the brakes, they did not do so much as even test them out. I am lucky that they worked at all. A final side note - when I got the oil change I brought in a coupon from the Monro Muffler website for a $19.99 oil change. Jim Vig Jr. refused to honor the coupon saying, "that's the franchised Monro Muffler's that take those, I can't make any money off of it". tl;dr: Monro Muffler over charged me for faulty brakes and refused to refund even a penny. I am considering taking them to small claims court over this. read more

Monro muffler did a tremendous job; they were wonderful! Mr. Vig and and his employees were timely and responsive to my inquiries. As I sat and waited for a few minutes to have my car completed you can hear them working with other customers and people on the phone. They were very frank and what costs were, what they expected. I had all four tires changed to winter tires and was out within an hour and a half. Great prices too! These guys are/were terribly busy. I was amazed that I got in and out as quickly as they did. Have been to many other auto repair shops and have not been nearly as satisfied as I was here. read more

I have a 1999 Accord and a 2004 Sienna and they keep both of my vehicles in fine working order. I would steer clear of this shop. Car wouldn't start so we had it towed to Monro. They installed a new battery ($155), still wouldn't start. Claimed something was wrong with our key. I overnighted a second key up to them but they 'claimed' that one didn't work either...hmmm. They told me me we needed to go to a dealer, so, we had it towed to dealer. Yesterday, Dealer agrees first key not working but the one I mailed up, works fine! Car started right up. Dealer cost...$119 for diagnostics + $197 for new key with programming = $350 with taxes. Dealer says I never needed the new battery which Monro installed. I called Monro right away, said Mike would call me back. When I never heard back from Mike, I called them again today. Unwilling to give me an itemized bill noting just why I needed to buy a new battery when the one we had was only a little over a year old. I have my receipt for original battery and will def pursue this. Keep an eye on these guys, cuz if they don't know how to fix something, they will replace something else. Maybe ok for oil change, but NOT diagnostics. read more

The old guy at the counter was extremely rude, didn't even acknowledge me when I entered and got in line. A younger guy came in and immediately greeted me and asked if he could help me. They could not do an oil change because they were shorthanded today but they could do the emissions test. Fine. When it was done, the old guy told me I failed but they can do the repairs there. I replied well no you can't because you can't even do an oil change today. He told me to "get over it" and "we don't even do oil changes here, we're a repair shop." He quoted me $39.00 for the oil change. When my wife went for her oil changed they charged her $90.00. My wife told them I talked to the manager that day, but they still charged her $90.00. Back a few years ago, my wife's SUV needed a fair amount of odds and ends and work done to it and the dealer quoted us $4,000 to do it all - mind you this is a 10yr old SUV at this point. One day my wife drove by Monro and met Jim Vig Sr and decided to at least see if he could look at the vehicle and see what was needed immediately. An hour and half later we drove out of there after paying $179 bill for a rear spring or something like that - I cant remember. His motto was that its an older vehicle and we'll fix what needs fixing as it becomes urgent or a safety matter. Well the SUV is still running several years later and while we've had to go in for this and that (part of the deal of owning an older vehicle and not being able to afford a new one) we've not yet hit the $4,000 repair mark the dealer quoted several years ago. Here's another example - more recently, I had my brakes done on my F150 there - reasonable and pricing seemed in line at the time. One day this past summer, the wheels started squeaking - enough so that i thought i should stop somewhere to get it looked at. Firestone is literally 90 seconds away from my office so its a major convenience to just pop over. Monro is over 30min away. So I went to Firestone who were professional enough and proceeded to tell me the only way to fix it is to do brakes all the way around and that will make it go away - $967 please. Oh and $20 bucks for the check over. Hmmm truck stops fine. No grinding. What gives? I dont have $967 growing on the money tree in the back yard. So I make the trip to Monro who were happy to take a look for me. Jim's son even measured the pads on the fronts and backs and actually showed me (educated me) that the front pads were about 50-50 and the backs were near new. Cost? ZERO. Yes, ZERO. Nothing for the check either. But i did pick up a can of brake cleaner so maybe not quite zero - $4 bucks. Folks, if you're still reading this review, these guys are a family owned business with many years of experience who are honest and to the point - no sugar coating. Sometimes the cost is what it is - get over it (to the reviewer who whined about being told to get over it). Its not a Ferrari repair shop otherwise Jim would be wearing an Armani tie and suit (that you would have paid for). They're just regular local folks doing an honest day's work. read more

Went in for an oil change. First gave me attitude about how many people were in front of me and it would be awhile. I mean don't they want service, you don't have to be RUDE about it. I was okay with it and told him no rush, as I'd be back later. When I came back to pay I had a coupon. First he told me the price then I presented the coupon. He did something with the computer then told me the same price. I asked him what about the $5 coupon and he said it was already factored in. I call BS on that b/c I my boyfriend had gone there before and I went home and looked at how much an oil change is and it was the same price. Why would you send out coupons to draw people in and then lie about it being factored in the price. I will NEVER go there again for an oil change based on the rudeness and lies. I have to say there use to be another fella at the front desk that was much more polite but didn't see him this time around. He must have left b/c of the jerk of a owner who is now at the front desk. read more
