Served on a soft bun, any of the selections will quench your burger cravings. Fries are crispy on outside and soft and creamy on the inside -- just as French fries should be. Took a trip down to Lee Vining today. Had to stop at this place because I have seen how busy they are everything I drive through town. The food is absolutely amazing. I can only speak for what I ate, but it definitley couldn't be a fluke. I bought the BBQ Beef Burger wig onion rings and an iced tea. The burger was one of the best I've had. The onion rings were plentiful. Huge bag stuffed full of them. The prices are a little high, but that's to be expected in such a small town. Plus the food was definitely worth it. Last time I ordered the turkey burger and that definitely would have rated higher than the chicken burger with grilled chicken. The chicken was standard (Sysco?) but the whole thing only had lettuce and tomatoes whereas my husband's double cheddar bacon burger also got onions and pickles. The turkey burger had those, too. Why not the chicken? The chicken did have a red asterisk by all of the entrees, but the only red asterisk explanation on the menu was *cherry. Clearly not applicable. When I asked the nice server what the asterisk meant, he did not know. Hmmmm. Nothing but lettuce and tomatoes maybe? Go for a regular burger or a turkey burger is my advice. Great little hamburger/cone stand. Service was quick even though lines were long; yes, they were a little short with me but I only took it as them being busy, not rude. Complaint about the hours by another reviewer is frivolous; this is a mom and pops stand in a very small town -- of course they aren't going to stay open until 10 or 11. Food quality was excellent. I have been here 3 times, mostly on my way to/from Yosemite (it's DEFINITELY worth the wait, as the food/prices here blow anything in Yosemite way out of the water). All 3 times I have had the classic, all-American meal of burger/fries/shake....and all 3 times, it was EXCELLENT! On my most recent visits I had the guacamole burger, the ortega burger, a buttermilk strawberry shake and a salted caramel shake. Everything was exceptional! The shakes are the fantastic old-fashioned kind...thick and fatty and deliciousssss. The burgers are solid, meaty and seriously yummy. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes for my order....and the staff has always been friendly and polite. I will probably NEVER pass thru Lee Vining again without stopping here! (Unless I happen to have passed thru Big Pine on the way, and have stuffed myself on delicious bread and cheese at Eric Schat's incomparable bakery.) For reals.....if you, like me, are entering/exiting Yosemite by way of Tioga Pass, the Mono Cone is a MUST STOP! I don't care for ice cream much, but Mono Cone is just so utterly cute and classic it made me want some in a ye olde small cone. Their ice cream is really good! Two options for flavors, vanilla and chocolate. Easy peasy. If you're in town, stop in. Apparently there is a yard type area in the back where you can sit and eat, we didn't see it so sat at the one picnic bench out front and watched the world of Lee Vining go by, perfectly enjoyable on a hot summer evening. read more

This was a good place! I had the pineapple malt, which had real pineapple chunks (frozen chunks?). This was a little too sweet, but it was very good and rich. The serving size is big for the prince! I also tried my brother's strawberry malt. It was a bit less sweet, and tasted fresh and had real strawberries. As for soft serve, the vanilla was a bit bland so getting the flavor blast may be a good idea. Otherwise, this was a solid ice cream roadside joint in a small town. I definitely got a 1980's vibe!! Don't give this rude, mean spirited woman your money! No meal is worth it! Stopped by here with a friend on a recomendation Sun. Oct. 18th, 2015 while fishing in Mammoth Lakes, CA. First off the lady taking our order was very rude. After receiving our order two burgers, onion rings, french fries and 1-soda he realized she didn't give back proper change. He paid $44.00 with no change back. My friend went back to the order window to let her know she mis-calculated the return change when she was again extremely snippy and confrontational denying she may have made a mistake and not even bothering to count her register when he asked her nicely if she wouldn't mind counting it. Food was dissapointing as well! Will never come here again and neither will my friend or his many fishing friends which patronize this business every fishing season on numerous occasions. read more

We visit this place once a year when we come up north && we always enjoy it! It's always busy and the food tastes great! The fries & chicken nuggets are extremely tasty && the ice cream after is even better. We have never been disappointed when coming here. Our only problem here is that service they always seem to be in a rush && never a please or thank you. Mono Cone is one of the better burger stands I've been to on the long 395 drive! Their burgers are extremely juicy and delicious. The onion rings are huge, a little bread-y but good. Their shakes are thick and they do not skimp on whatever ingredients you add to the shake, like the peanut butter cup shake. You definitely get your money's worth here. The lady is a bit curt with customers. No dogs allowed is a bummer, but understandable since it is a food establishment. We stopped here on out way back from the Ghost Town in Bodie Ca. for shakes, but then decided to try their burgers and tots. Wow! The cheese burger was fantastic! We had single cheeseburgers and they were nicely sized with extremely fresh ingredients. All of the vegetables were incredibly crisp and flavorful; additionally they use Angus beef here and proudly display a sign stating that fact. My vanilla shake was very good and my wife's strawberry shake had real strawberry chunks in it! My son had a root beer float that made him go silent at least 10 minutes (cause he couldn't stop eating it in between scarfing the tots). The tots were also very crunchy and were a generous portion, the three of us shared a single order. We come up to the June Lake Loop area every year or so; and from now on we will be making a stop at Mono Cone EVERY TRIP! Check them out! read more

This is one of my favorite stops to make heading north on 395. They have great, fresh made burgers. It's like going back in time to the old highway burger stops and getting a blast from the past. Their burgers are great. Juicy and greasy. Get plenty of napkins because you'll need them. The only drawbacks are parking and cash only. The parking is something of a nightmare if there are more than 3 people in line. And bring some cash because they don't take plastic. read more

They close at 7, which is odd for a tiny town that depends on tourism. And they are not open at all in the winter. I ordered the Garden Burger ($6.95) and a chocolate malt ($5). The unpleasant lady who takes your order and money, with the pulled-back hair and thick black glasses, is snippy for no reason. She is bitter about something; probably from a couple of bad marriages. I decided not to let her attitude ruin my experience. They produced the order in less than 5 minutes. The Garden Burger was good, well prepared and tasty. The only fault was the thin and squishy bun that flattened out immediately. They need to quit buying the cheapo 10¢ buns and spring for some quality buns without raising their prices. The burgers are $6 to $7 just for the burger. Jolly Kone in Bridgeport offers the same burgers at the same prices, but they include fries. The malt was a disappointment; tasting like they had made it with soft-serve instead of true ice cream. No wonder they made it so fast. They also used malt syrup instead of malt powder, which reduced the flavor and quality. Oh well... They have an indoor seating area and a small, pleasant backyard with tables and trees. But a much better choice is to get your order to go and take it to the small park a block away, which has a view of Mono Lake and some historic exhibits including the famous upside-down-house. read more

Famished after a superb Mono Lake canoeing expedition, we beelined for Mono Cone to satisfy our hunger. We ordered the bacon cheeseburger (per a local & his daughter - any cheeseburger is SO GOOD), the chili burger, rings, and TWO cones - one of each flavor! The food was divine and alternating between burger, rings, and ice cream was pure heaven. The flavors & texture took me back to my childhood... when we'd hear that unmistakable ice cream truck music, fly out the door shouting "stop," and sit on the curb devouring our soft serve on a sweltering Summer day. Do not speed by this place en route to Bodie without stopping for a cone, for you will truly miss a piece of Americana. In case you overlook it, there are 4 picnic tables in a rear grassy area complete w/ shade trees (you can pull a table into the shade, if you need to) for your dining pleasure. And, the restrooms are immaculate! Did I just write that? I see some people say the lady at the window was rude, but she was so pleasant! Took our order and shared some laughs with us. As I had eaten a wrap earlier, I simply ordered the pickle fries and my boyfriend got a Bacon BBQ Cheeseburger and tots. The pickle fries were SO good. Spears of pickles in a crunchy and nicely seasoned batter. I'm craving some now just thinking about it! I tried my boyfriend's burger and it was great. Seasoned and the bun had a crispy edge, fabulous! Afterwards, I ordered a chocolate cone and it hit the spot. Great way to finish the stop. I stopped by this joint for a quick ice cream fix before heading home from a camping weekend at June Lake. It was a hot day, so the place was relatively packed. They have the cutest sitting area in the back and the nicest bathroom. I appreciate small little things that make a big difference in terms of elevating one's moods. The bathroom smells amazing; it is pretty and CLEAN. Okay, I am going off topic...I believe I am supposed to review their ice cream haha. I've been stopping and eating at the Mono Cone since the '70's. I usually go on camping/fishing trips in the Eastern Sierra in May, September and October and never fail to stop at least once at the Mono Cone for a double cheese burger, fries (sometimes onion rings) and coke. The burgers are flat out awesome and the best I've ever had....anywhere! Order at the front window, pick up at the other front window, then eat inside in the small, very basic 'dining room', or, better yet, take it out back and sit at a table in a shady lawn area. Or, as some suggest, go a block away around the corner to the East and eat in the park. Prices and speed of service? Reasonable for such good food. Remember, this is a small town on a highway (395) 30 some miles north of Mammoth Lakes in the Eastern Sierra. Prices in this type of setting are high anywhere for everything from groceries to gas to beer and ice. You're not getting some slapped together chain burger in the middle of a big city...you're getting an excellent high quality beef burger individually cooked. Heck, gas prices in this town are 55 cents to a dollar higher a gallon than in the 'civilized world', so you have to expect to pay a bit more for stuff that has to be trucked in at a greater expense than elsewhere. Over the past 30 some years stopping here, I'm not sure if there's been a change of ownership but the quality hasn't suffered. However, I will admit that the 'lady' who usually works the window is a grump and always has been. I just know she's going to be that way so I'm always polite, say please and thank you, and let it go. PS: Lordy, lordy! Please don't smoke within 50' of the front window or you'll really find out how grumpy that lady can be. read more

Awesome little gem in Lee Vining, which I never knew about cause I always turn left onto Tioga road before I enter the main town! Not this time.. Went on a friends recommendation and man was she right! Classic little old school spot, serving up great 50's burger-shack style food and awesome shakes! I got a ridiculously juicy double cheeseburger which I would describe as an In-N-Out burger on steroids, in the best way possible. Followed it up with a cherry-buttermilk shake with whipped cream, fantastic. They don't take a temp order on burgers, and I doubt its organic, but man oh man is it tasty.
