My favorite cronut is the brown butter glaze, but I love trying their new flavors! But what truly makes Barefruit special is the people--the staff and the owners. During postpartum and my transition back to work, I made it a little ritual to treat myself to a coffee and a cronut from Barefruit once a week (or sometimes more- lol). Some days were (and still are) incredibly hard, but I'm always greeted with the warmest welcome and the kindest smiles. They take the time to ask about my son and how I'm doing, and they even help with quick pickup orders, so I'm not late for work. On the toughest days, they somehow just know. Whether it's a joke, a thoughtful question, or simply a friendly smile, they always manage to brighten my morning. They genuinely care about their customers and make you feel like family. Anytime we have friends or family visiting, Barefruit is our first stop--and it's always a hit. I recommend them wholeheartedly and can't wait to see how they continue to grow. I first tried them as a small stand at farmer markets- and am so happy for the shop now! I am a local, but the wait times vary. Some weekends are busy, but I promise it is worth the wait. A lot of the businesses seem quite busy, so parking is a little bit of a hassle, but not too bad. I rolled into a very nicely decorated, welcoming space. It's roomier than I expected with plenty of tables to work, eat, or gather. They offer coffee drinks, pastries, and even full breakfast and lunch - think sandwiches, fruit bowls, salads, waffles, etc. I made my way to the register. The young lady who took my order was effusively nice and very friendly and I enjoyed chatting with her a little bit - apparently, neither one of us are from the Memphis area, haha. I ordered a latte of some sort (can't remember the exact name but it was their take on a biscoff cookie latte) and a muffin to go. I was able to make myself a quick complementary cup of cool water at the self-serve station as well as napkins, straws, etc. my order came out quickly. Overall, I was quite pleased. The muffin was loaded with chocolate chips and also had very pleasant notes of cinnamon and other warming spices. The latte had the perfect amount of ice in it and a discernible, fairly strong biscoff taste, which I enjoyed. My one main wish was that it been mixed a bit more before served; most of the syrup was at the bottom and came through in either gigantic overwhelming mouthfuls or not at all. However, that was a fairly easy remedy to render myself with a few good stirs of my straw. I'd say this visit is a 4.5. This coffee shop is close to my aunt's house and I will definitely return next time we visit the Memphis area. If quality remains consistent, it'll be an easy round up to a 5 next time. I could hear them chatting the whole time in the back and whenever I walked up I would find one or two of them leaning against a wall or sitting down and she would help with whatever I asked but like I didn't see any of them come out to check the dining area at any point in the hour we were there with our friends. They'd come out to refill the water or to deliver food or to take my trash (but not empty the actual trash???) but never to like wipe down the tables or do any of the things I usually see people doing. It was odd. Also, weird question but why is there a mint dispenser that doesn't work? It doesn't have a sign. I don't care about the 50c and once I noticed how dirty it was I was concerned about eating anything that did come out- luckily nothing did because now I wonder how old those are... so uhhhh why is that there? One of the girls mentioned someone wouldn't remove it and that it was from "before" so I guess from whatever this place was previously? Anyway, the menu was also odd. They only had one that we could use at our table so our friends and I had to swap it back and forth. Some things were whited out, which is fine, but then there were things without prices next to them, which is not fine. I am not a big fan of surprises in pricing. The menu listed build your own options, but not prices next to things. I ended up picking some things for a burrito and having to ask what the price was before I committed. It ended up tasting fine and I even liked the salsa it came with. However, everyone in my party agreed that they did not like that aspect. It actually deterred my friends from ordering from that menu. I was also deterred but they were out of pesto so I couldn't get the turkey sandwich I wanted. Very small town coffee shop vibes with many tables inside and outside and tons of families and friends gathering together. I loved the area it was in, so it made perfect sense as to why this coffee shop was there. I went on a Saturday morning, and it was packed full of people. Only two people working, so it did take a minute to place my order and get my drink. But, there were places to sit and things to look at while I waited. They didn't take your name to write on the cup, so it was a bit confusing as they were calling out order, especially when someone else had your same drink. I always like to try a special when I am trying out a new place, so I decided to get the Honey tiramisu coffee. It was absolutely delicious! I drank it so fast. I loved it so much that I wanted to go back on Sunday. Without checking the hours, we drove there and they were closed. Oh well, but I will definitely be going back next time I'm in town!
