    Super Spider Roll

Monkey Sushi is pretty good, and I suspect this rating might go up to 4 stars once things open up and it can do what it's known for - AYCE. Because that's what Monkey Sushi is: not the best sushi in the city, but pretty good at pretty good prices. My wife and I got takeout, and my easy favourite was the Unagi Eel Lover Combo - eel-to-rice ratio was good and they were generous with the unagi sauce. Next up was the Grilled Squid which was a good portion sizes for the price and bathed in sweet sauce (which I liked) though juuuust a tad rubbery. Also got the Super Spider Roll which had a good crab-to-rice ratio, though would be better if the crab was crunchier. Our least favourite was the Delicious Volcano Roll - didn't really taste the torched sushi since there was just too much sauce/mayo on it. Overall, pretty good. Will likely give it another try when things open up.

Tempura combos, variety of special rolls, sashimi combos, udon soup, Korean beef ribs and chirashi bowl

With the lockdown, we did an Uber eat order. We saw it had decent reviews on Uber eats and so were the prices comparing to other sushi locations in the riverdale area. We ordered a variety of special rolls including: hot fusion roll (buy 1 get 1 on uber), gold dragon roll (BOGO), super spider roll, hot fire torched mixed sushi, monster roll, raptor roll, rainbow dragon and signature monkey roll.... We pretty much ordered a lot of rolls that didn't have the cream cheese since it's not a hit in our family. All I enjoyed very much. The rolls were large. From the cooked menu, we had the Korean short ribs, shrimp and veg tempuras, and the chicken and veg udon soup. The beef ribs had a-lot of msg in my opinion so I didn't like that and too sweet. It dried out my throat. The tempura was nice with the light and fluffy batter. The udon soup was okay, nothing to rave about. We also got the sashimi platter and the chirashi bowl (come with 15 pieces of sashimi). The sashimis were fresh and cut to the perfect size. They gave a generous amount of utensils, ginger, soy sauce and wasabi.

Not a single grain of non mushy rice to be found.

Great food that comes very quickly. Perfect to order in. Portions are huge and hits the spot.

You can really tell there's a lot of care behind every course. What stood out to me most was how calm and focused the whole experience felt--it made it easy to slow down and actually enjoy each bite. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I want something a little more special.

There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

We were seated in a separate room from the regular sushi counter. The chef carefully prepared each course in front of us. The Kaiseki portion was served first, and after each course was given to us one of the servers described each dish and its elements. The sushi courses were served afterwards followed by some desserts. They also gave us an extra dessert for the birthday celebrant. Each dish was really thoughtful and tasty, and the fish was really fresh. The highlight was definitely the A5 Wagyu beef course. The beef was so buttery and melted in my mouth. They even explained the quality of the beef and showed us a certificate of the beef's grading. It was worth the splurge for a special occasion! The meal was amazing and the restaurant itself was welcoming and not pretentious at all.
