Thanks Yelpies for the nice photos. We opted to sit at the patio by the street. They made it little better by putting a facade between the street and the sidewalk. No smokers but that didn't last long. In Italy, outside seating means someone will be smoking next to you. Guaranteed. When we got here, thr waiter started shaking his head when I said no reservation. After conferring with another waiter, we got seated and things started rolling. Bread was brought out and asked for bottled water. To my surprise, cuperto was free and Pellagrino was only €3.50 Chilled vino bianco was delicious with the two items we shared. I got the grilled octopus served on top of the mashed potatoes. (POLPO CROCCANTE Purè, pomodorini semi dry, paté di olive nere) It was a large serving and grilled to perfection. The fish soup (ZUPPA DI PESCE Pomodoro, calamari, polipetti, seppie, gamberi, cozze, vongole, crostini di pane) had flavor that I wasn't use to. Salty, thick soup base? Definitely better to dip with scarpetta. Wasn't happy that one clam and one mussels didn't open up. Our waiter were on top of everything till we were ready to go. Guy next to us rolled a cigarette and started smoking and I was ready to roll out of there. Took while to get the bill after repeatedly asking for it. Overall, we only scratched the surface and love to come back and spend exploring other items like raw fish platers. Inside!

We started with the mixed salumi and formagio plate which came with prosciutto, truffled mortadella, soppresatta, coppa, two types of cheese and giardiniera along with freshly baked bread. It was more than enough for 4 and very reasonably priced. We split a spaghetti with bottarga while our friends had the seafood risotto. Both were very good. This was accompanied by a nice bottle of Pio Ceasare Barbera. For my secondi I had the traditional osso buco which was very tender and served with a rich Espangole sauce. The service was good, they were trying hard, a mishap with plates, a few long pauses after menu or food requests, but overall was acceptable. We ordered the artichoke salad and the mushroom tagliolini. Would not recommend the artichoke salad but enjoyed the tagliolini. We also ordered the sea bass fillet ( needed salt) and the steak (which was very good). We finished our meal with the crème brûlée which was perfectly creamy. There was one odd thing here about the bathrooms. They were basically co-ed bathrooms with some urinals completely exposed with no privacy. Just something to be aware of before opening the door. Very glad we dined here. There were a couple of food items that could have been a bit better, but overall, this was a very good meal.

The restaurant is on a side street near the busy (with tourists from every corner of the globe) Duomo area. It is easy to find. It has a charming decor (though it is a bit darker and more romantically appointed than other area restaurants, as well as having an underground and almost bordello vibe). It is also larger than it might appear, as there are both ground floor, as well as a lower eating area seemingly for larger groups, as well as used during busier times. We have only eaten on the ground floor level. The menu offers ample variety, but is not what one would term extensive. It tends upscale, though not extremely costly (arguably average to slightly above average fine restaurant prices), but portions are on the smaller side. They have a specialty in dishes augmented and emphasizing the use of truffles, of which we have sampled several times. Over the course of our several meals we've had every pasta and risotto offered with truffle shavings. Of the appetizers we can recommend the meatballs, which are delicate and small, the bacon wrapped shrimp, and the octopus. Their desserts are also not the run of the mill and warrant tastings. All and all, we will always repeat here when in Milan. Frankly, though their Yelp average score is pretty good, we were surprised they do not have a higher Yelp average score.
