I met friends here recently (01-2024). After the bartender was finished with one of her (25 minute, possibly longer) smoke break(s), we were able to make order food and drinks at the counter. I asked the regulars if we had offended her & they shrugged and mentioned how she was overwhelmed with the 11-ish total in the bar. Each drink order was countered with a sigh & an eye roll. She seemed to treat the regulars the same as us rookies, so there's something to be said about that. The good part is that the wings, mini corn dogs, and mozzarella sticks were good, when we finally got them. Drinks were okay. The best bartender can make any room wonderful, while a terrible bartender can turn a great place upside down. Thanks for the glaring hate with each of our orders. First off, I absolutely love this place!! It's a little slice of heaven in what some would call the armpit of Spokane. Immediately were greeted by a trans bartender that made me feel safe and feel home. There aren't many accepting bars in this neighborhood that have the same progressive views that I have. The free Palestine and Black Lives Matter sign on the door made me know this is going to be my neighborhood hang. Drinks were stiff and affordable, the pool tables and darts were clean and well kept. The monkey bar is a refreshing place to stop and have a drink and some great food. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with a smile, hello and have seat anywhere. Next your waitstaff is right on the spot to get you started with your evening with a smile and great attitude. The manager and her staff tend to take care and care for those who may be waiting for the bus with a pop and a warm place to wait. This is my new favorite place. I need to "Yelp the hell out of this place" as it seem it has not gotten the love it deserves. We have a group that meets up once a month and we picked The Monkey Bar. I wasn't overly excited based on some of the older reviews, but I will generally give any place a chance. I was not disappointed. The good: - Service was friendly and attentive. - Drinks were not watered down. - Good specials on some of the beer. - Pool, darts, etc. are there for entertainment. - Awesome homemade HOT SAUCE. A little dab will do ya. Trust me! - reasonable prices What could be better: - Draft selection was a little limited. - Food was typical bar food, nothing exceptional, but decent. I'd sum up The Monkey Bar as a typical dive bar that has been around a while. Exceptional service on the evening we were there. Our waitress was very attentive and I understand that she has worked there quite some time. Most of our group had appetizers, but I had a bacon cheeseburger. The burger itself was decent but I wasn't a big fan of the tater tots I got to go with them. The wings were ok when dipped in ranch but seemed to lack flavor on their own. Other seemed to enjoy the chees sticks and pretzel. The best was the homemade hot sauce. It was it the hottest sauce any of us have ever had, it also had a good flavor. This place close early. The owner/bartender does not attend quickly. I would say if your from a place more experience and guest attending you will feel more welcome but this was not it with the wait time double. I felt like a damed to their job which can easily do. The place looks fun until you have u til you have to wait for any kind of simple drink. I'm sure they know who we are since we waited for more them 20 min for a simple shot . I feel like more experienced bartender and with actual owner yo provide more fun entertainment with maintaining great service they can pull through. Are you gay? Yup, was asked here when an old college buddy and I stopped in for some cocktails last weekend. From a girl who was from Montana, no doubt. To be honest, I thought it to be a compliment. Anyway, Ive been here twice and Ive had a good time. They serve Guinness in a bottle which is better than not serving it. Having lived in Washington for a month now, I have figured out who keeps Budweiser, Coors and Miller in business. It seems drinking anything beyond a state micro beer is exotic. Isnt this high school beer? Its like never graduating from Mad Dog 20/20 or Thunderbird or Boones Farm wine to something of higher quality. I cant get my head around it. Like all bars Ive been to in Spokane and where I live now (Kennewick), the crowd is diverse. All ages and classes. Even a hipster, or two. Its funny to see scenesters in small towns. Who are they kidding anyway? Such rebels. I recommend chatting up with bartender that is on the heavy side. I cant remember his name but he's on the level. And if you are in shape and wear anything other than Wrangler jeans, a ball cap or a Carhartt jacket be warned that someone might be wondering if you prefer bottom or top. Dont even think about wearing argyle socks and True Religion jeans. It appears unavoidable that you will be cross-examined on your sexuality. OUT! read more

Aww... Place is cute. Large space with 3 pool tables. Hand-made fresh squeezed lime margaritas , cool basic pub menu & a friendly bartender. Bar itself is small, but the lounge holds 6-8 bar tables. (Could be a problem getting service if bartender isn't on his/her game). However, Our experience with the service was good. Great place to either shoot pool, watch sports ...or both. read more

I met a friend for dinner here last night. He ordered a Corona, and the bartender brought him something else, not sure what. The bartender informed him that he'd like it better than the corona that he ordered. The menu boasts a hand smashed hamburger patty. So I asked about the Swiss cheese they use on their mushroom swiss burger. It's the crappy kind, the Kraft singles kind. I had them hold the cheese. Plastic wrapped cheese is gross. And I had them hold the bun, because I don't eat gluten if I can avoid it. But I was still expecting a halfway decent hamburger patty, a halfway decent meal. It was a teeny, pathetic portion. the salad was all lettuce with 2 grape tomatoes cut in half on top. He ordered the fish and chips. The fish is cod. And that's okay. But it wasn't very good. It was probably frozen Gordon's fisherman fish. It was very loud in the bar. Considering that it was a Tuesday night, we could barely hear each other, and we were sitting off in a corner by ourselves. Also, and maybe more importantly, it was absolutely freezing. I was on a date, and never took off my winter coat. I was so cold, that when my date took my hand, he commented that my hands were freezing. Wait staff never check back in with us. Didn't seem to care if we needed another drink. Didn't seem to care if we had what we needed for our meal or liked our meal. Bottom line, I give the Monkey Bar bar 1 star, because the food wasn't completely inedible. However, I don't intend to return. read more

Had my husband's 40th birthday bash on 02/25/12 and we had a great time. We practically had the back room of the bar to ourselves but those that shared the area were very respectful and did their own thing. The two employees working that night were great, willing to get your order or what ever was needed. I would like to thank The Monkey Bar for letting us party there and for the great service that was provided. We had such a great time.
