Stopped here with a group after our grandson's hockey tournament. Food was excellent. Pizza was hot and delicious. Salads are huge, dressings are fresh made. I had the tortellini with Alfredo sauce it was very good, served with two bread sticks. Sandwiches are huge with lots of meats and cheeses. A must try when in Springfield. read more

We have been to Monical's in Springfield numerous times. We are known by several of the staff- that is how often we go. On this visit- the wait staff was TERRIBLE. The place was not busy- 7 or 8 other tables besides us. It took our server 7 minutes to acknowledge us, and that was without apologizes or anything similar to friendly. We overheard her tell the table behind us how busy she was and they needed to wait to place a to go order. We waited over 35 minutes after our salads came for pizza. We finally asked for it to go... we were fed up. I would recommend this place BUT not the service- at least on this night. read more

Monical's for me is that memory refresher from college where I first tried a Monical's pizza and famous "red" sauce over 15 years ago. Fast forward and it remains to this day one of my favorite food spots to hit for pizza in the Midwest. My fiancé had never been before so a few weeks ago I finally took her for dinner and she loved the pizza as well; although my spirit was crushed when she admitted to not really liking the red sauce. The special sauce isn't for everyone but it is at least a must try with your pizza/breadsticks. We also ordered an appetizer of meatballs which ironically enough I have never tried; we both loved them and at first she said she didn't even want meatballs! The pizza sizes are a little smaller than Im used to, I should have ordered the large! I was in Springfield for a wedding weekend and ordered here from a recommendation of my sister in law who grew up eating Monicals! I thought it was good but not great, a little too greasy. My brother-in-law indicated that the pizza is usually crispier and not as soggy? If I get another chance, I will give it a try. There aren't any locations within my metropolitan area. The star of the show is the Sweet n Tart Dressing! I had two cups of these sauces, a nacho cheese sauce and a marinara sauce. No wonder the softdough breadsticks disappeared so quickly as everyone grabbed one! Dip your pizza, breadsticks, monkey bread or pepperollies in this sauce and you will be fulfilled! On a recent trip to Springfield, Monical's was close and convenient to my hotel. I had never heard of them before, so opted to give them a try. I was very disappointed. I usually like thin crust, but this was tasteless with an unpleasant texture. The cheese mixture was an unusual combination that just tasted foul to me. Maybe I was there on an off night or bad time; I believe it was about an hour before closing. Also to be fair, pizza is a matter of personal taste, so others may enjoy it. Monical's pizza is definally one of my favorite places to get a pizza from. There pizza is mostly a "thin crust" style of pizza which is covered in tasteful ingredients with good proportions. One thing that you will definaly have to try at Monical's is a salad with there signature French dressing. Also there building is a new improvement over there last location. With the new building having more open room. Now for the cons! The serving staff is pretty bad. I'm not saying that they are not polite, because they are. I just get lousy service. Ok, so this is one of the best thin crust pizzas in existence. The crust is crispy, the sauce is perfect, the cheese is just right, and all of the toppings we have picked have been fresh and cooked to yummy perfection. We like the family pleaser, comes with a big bowl of salad, pitcher of pop or iced tea, and then your pizza. I have been eating Monicals for over 18 years. Once, on a dare, I ate a piece with hot sauce and found it was great. To really mix it up, try dipping in the sweet and tart salad dressing. The contrast of the hot and sweet make it a whole new experience. Maybe not for everyone. We used to live in central Illinois but now we live in St. Louis, where they say St Louis pizza is thin crust from Imos. Now that is a thin crust pizza that's confusing. Apparently the more plastic the cheese (they use provel cheese ) the better. Needless to say, every time we are near a Monicals Pizza, we indulge in the good stuff, which tastes like plastic NEVER! I haven't been to Monical's in about a decade. My last visit was at their previous location. Loved visiting Monical's in the Gibson City area "back in the day." The Springfield location just wasn't the same, in taste or vibe. So, today, I was in the neighborhood, so I made a return visit for lunch. They were comfortably busy but not swamped. I was solo today, and was not greeted with a "hello," just "I'll put you over there," and a point to a booth in the corner. A menu was dropped off a few minutes later, again without a hello. The server returned and took my order (8" pizza and a drink). 20 minutes later, the pizza arrives, steaming hot. No fork (i always eat the first few bites with a fork because it's hot, don't judge me) and no Parmesan shaker. The server never returned for a drink refill. She just slid the check onto the table as she was passing by. The pizza tasted like a mid-quality frozen pizza. The service was poor. See you in a decade. read more
