Went here for my Son's Birthday we walked in and it was full. Just kinda stood there. My sister spoke to a waitress, asked if there was a wait. The waitress told us 20 min turned around and walked away. It was unfortunate. I heard the food was good. My Son already has social anxiety and felt unwelcome. Another ride to eat day on the cycle. We've been eying this place on Yelp for a while and made the trek here this morning for breakfast. There is plenty of street parking with easy access to the restaurant. Inside there are a handful of tables and booths. There are also a couple of tables out front. Service was just mediocre, with drinks being slow to be refilled. Our server wasn't overly friendly, maybe just an off day. The pancakes were very good, bacon crisped just right and my chicken fried steak was pretty decent. Hash browns were just meh, lacking flavor. I asked for them extra crispy, but didn't get delivered that way. If you are looking for the huckleberry variety of dishes, ie: waffles, pancakes, etc, those are only served on Saturdays. read more

DELICIOUS AND HOT!! Boy what a nice little gem! At this point it's only open from 7am-1pm so be aware. The service was quick and the food came super fast. I should have set a timer. We went two days in a row and it was quick both times. Coffee was good and the server came by often offering refills. It's right up our alley as far as the decor is concerned! There are license plates on the walls, roosters, chickens.. just very cute! It is a very small place so be ready to wait for a seat. We were lucky enough to get a seat both times. The first day we got there at 9 and it ended up with a small wait time by the time we finished. Good food and plenty of it. This is our half order of bacon and eggs. Hers were scrambled and mine were over medium, both with bacon (delicious by the way!) sourdough toast and she got gravy on the side. We are now pleasantly full and on the road.... That fifth star is for those AMAZING huckleberry pancakes!! I've been wanting to try Monica's Buttermilk Kitchen ever since I saw them show up in Chewelah. I finally got the chance today and I'm praying to the likelihood-of-being-in-the-area-again Gods that I'll be beck soon and often. The inside of the "cafe" is bright, clean, but a little tight (small dining area). Fortunately, though, they have an equal amount of seating outside. We were taken to a table immediately with menus in hand and (thankfully) coffee on the way. I ordered the double-stack of huckleberry pancakes with the two eggs and bacon. They came with this amazing ... buttermilk? syrup. The pancakes were incredible; light and fluffy with fresh huckleberries. The eggs were cooked perfectly and four tasty slices of bacon. Prices are very reasonable and service is friendly and efficient. Monica's is a keeper! read more

Mary and I we're passing through the area and stopped in for breakfast, first visit. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated, hot coffee came right out. We shared the chicken fried steak, with an extra biscuit. The chicken fried steak was crispy on the outside and very tender on the inside, the sausage gravy was delicious. The eggs were over easy and perfectly cooked. The hash browns were a tad over cooked. The toast was perfect. The biscuit was a tad dry. Overall a very good breakfast. read more

Excellent small town breakfast spot. It's pretty small inside but very clean which is always important. Coffee was hot and plentiful which is one of my biggest measures. Another one is house made food. The biscuits were not but the corned beef hash was so that was huge. Hash scored a 9/10 only because it needed something better than a cold cut style corned beef. I stopped in here for a pancake, a side of hash browns, and coffee. I'd had bacon and eggs earlier, so I just wanted carbs and caffeine. It's a homey atmosphere, like a house. The pancake was quite good, and came with homemade buttermilk syrup that tasted great. Being made with buttermilk, it tasted like I was pouring liquid pancakes on my pancakes. No complaints about that, but there were sugar crystals in the syrup that may have melted if it were a kept warmer. Maybe that isn't possible in the plastic syrup container it came in, not sure. The hash browns were dry and not very warm. I only took one bite. The coffee seemed fresh and, if I recall, had some kind of flavoring in it. They provided real half 'n' half. The service was good and very attentive. I'll be back next time I'm in Chewelah. read more

Great little place in Chewelah, the perfect choice for breakfast! Monica's had awesome breakfast, the eggs were done over easy perfectly, the bacon crispy, the hashbrowns just right and the coffee fresh and hot and all this at a great price! Everything was wonderful and tasty, even the two MAGAts didn't bother me. Service was great with the right level of gruffness, we loved it! We'll have to go for pancakes next time, they looked very fluffy and our neighbor table kept going "yummy yummy yummy", so yeah we'll be back for sure! read more

I have been here many times and it's always a delight. I personally think this place has the best chicken fried steak in the 509 area. The outdoor seating was nice because of the weather but overall we won't return and I wouldn't recommend. I spent $90 for my family and I and I felt like I got completely ripped off. The $4.00 glass of orange juice was disgusting, definitely orange juice concentrate, you know the cans from the freezer section that you add water to. Not worth the $4.00. read more

This is country style cooking as I expect and love! As the name implies, it is a family run business and the food, service, and atmosphere are as they should be. If you want your bacon or hash browns well-done, then just ask. The coffee is just coffee nothing fussy or fancy. We really enjoy this place which is frequently busy with both locals and tourists. Pro tip would be to make sure the patron does not hear you or maybe choose a different line of work. I reviewed Monica's nearly two years ago so it's time for an update. Tables and chairs outside for the overflow although it was only 43° when we pulled up so we opted for indoors. A polite but clear mask policy posted on the door. Bravo! The specials both included blueberry pancakes, eggs, and bacon. I'm not a huge fan of pancakes but I remembered liking them the last time we were here. That had to be the best pancake I've ever had! Bacon was not too crisp, not too chewy. Check your receipt! Don't come here often bc always often charge differently. When ordering a la cart the receipt indicates a complete order even though you don't get the HB, toast, etc. It's difficult trying to have a conversation with the party I'm with bc of all the ear hustlers listening. Perhaps having light music would be enjoyable with the meals. Servers don't pay attention. They need to have better PR, CS and service patrons with a welcoming smile. Why is it difficult asking for extra napkins?! Breakfasts I make at home are fulfilling and not salty and don't have to deal with greasy catsup and mustard dispensers. Hate it when the cook stares. Very disappointed! Started with unfriendly staff and a very rude cook, he clearly doesn't like to be asked questions. Then it moved on to soggy lettuce on my very salty cheeseburger which was sitting on a dry, cracked, crumbly bun.
